I was looking at Neowing, the Japanese version of CDJapan, and I noticed that almost all the Queen albums up to and including GH3 are being re-released (in normal CD format?) in Japan, as limited pressings.
While I can't say whether these'll be using the 2001 re-master soundtracks, or using new re-masters altogether, I can say that these are VERY cheap for Japanese pressings!
The single CD albums are 1762yen ($16.71 US), while the 2CD albums are 2571yen ($24.38 US).
I would also like to note that the original Live At Wembley '86 CD is also one of those being re-released; seems they're not (re-)issuing the 2003 "Live At Wembley Stadium" CD again.
The actual CD's being re-released, if anyone would like to see a list, would be:
Queen
Queen II
Sheer Heart Attack
A Night At The Opera
A Day At The Races
News Of The World
Jazz
Live Killers
The Game
Flash Gordon
Greatest Hits (UK Version)
Hot Space
The Works
A Kind Of Magic (with 'bonus ingredients'??)
Live Magic
The Miracle (with bonus tracks as well??)
Innuendo
Greatest Hits II
Made In Heaven
Greatest Hits III
ED: Seems that "Queen Rocks" will never be re-issued. Only the original 1997 release is available in Japan. Shame.
Just thought I'd let everyone know.
These come out on April 25. link
EDIT: It seems these are being re-issued to celebrate the upcoming Japanese production of the We Will Rock You musical, based on an article I translated on BabelFish
Hmm...I think these are properly low-priced. I haven't heard this news from any other news source yet. So, I don't have any other info. about these ones...

Don't expect any big news about it.
These are just the regular CD's being re-released in the normal form (ie. no cardboard sleeves, just jewel cases, etc.).
And besides, what with HMV UK selling single CD's from Queen for 5 pounds a pop, I don't think QOL will even mention these.
Doesn't sound like a re-release to me - just an alteration of the price - they will be trying to get rid of as much stock of what they have pressed and sitting in warehouses as they possibly can, before getting the Deluxe Editions to market.

If they wanted to get rid of stock at lower prices, they would've done that with the 2001 remasters, which themselves are normal issue (non-cardboard). Japan is not known for doing that, I think, even though I'm sure CD prices in general have gone down as of late (either that, or they changed the tax policies on CDJapan et al, to eliminate consumption taxes for non-Japanese people ordering the CD's since they don't live in Japan)
These CD's are only being issued as long as the WWRY Japan production runs, cos these are being re-issued, again, to celebrate the production. Once the production run ends, these CD's get discontinued.
It would give me an opportunity to grab newer replacements for Jazz and Innuendo...
I posted about this a wee while ago.
The 2xCD special editions will "soon" take over. In the meantime, the are getting rid of all the old stock as quickly and as cheaply as possible.
Therefore all markets will see big price reductions for Queen CDs.

????
When was this announced?! Any word on what the additional CD contain?
I've been working my way thru the Japanese minis. Guess that I'll have to start all over again.

But why didn't they just simply lower the prices for the 2001 remasters CD's and advertise them in Japan?? Not that they would, 'cos Japan would never do such things (it's just how their economy works, I guess).
