Alot of you in all of our discussions about the Queen+Paul Rodgers Tour and discussions of Both Brian's & Roger's solo work...have brought up well WHY doesn't John Deacon start a solo career/band and do his solo stuff with Brian & Roger? Well, in 1986, John who has discussed that one thing that has held him back in a solo career, is that unlike Brian & Roger, he does NOT sing, formed a band of his own...just when Freddie, Brian, & Roger were also all pursuing solo projects. In 86' John formed a solo band called The Immortals and the band really came about as John was commissioned to write and record music for a film called "Biggles". John & The Immortals recorded 1 song only (which I have NEVER seen or heard), called "No Turning Back". The band broke up right after doing just that 1 song. Can ANYONE tell me if they have ever seen a copy of this song, heard it, who sings lead vocals, and...is it any good? Based on just one song, good or bad though...don't you think John should have given things more of a go and tried harder and longer? Here in the USA, we have several guitar players who Do NOT sing, but have hit bands and records, such as The Derek Trucks Band, Kenny Wayne Shepherd (who after over a very suuccessful decade and run of records with another lead singer working with him), finally just released his FIRST record where he (Kenny) sings, and the critics say it's great and that Kenny should have had more faith in his own vocal talents and tried sooner. Anyhow...all of this is in relation to John...I mean you can't base a solo career or any career on just 1 song. Geez, if Queen had done that, or most artists, they would never get anywhere. What's your viewpoints, and also let me know if you have seen a copy of and heard "No Turning Back" and what you think of it. |

It's very 1980s - programmed drums, twangy bass, cheesy lyrics. Sounds very much like a song for a movie (which it was), and not something I'd really give a second listen to. I would be interested to see John go into a solo career, but I get the feeling he's not interested. The only reason he would have back when he was in Queen was only to pass the time until the band went on the road again or went back into the studios, but he contributed very little actual songs to the last two albums. And most of Innuendo was recorded without his contribution until late in the stage, as he was on vacation in Biarritz for a few months, so something tells me he doesn't exactly have the desire to be in the music industry anymore. |

Yes, we have the vinyl. Much prefer his 'Man In The Shadows' vinyl LP. Looking forward to the Japanese remaster, with added bonuses, coming out later this year. |

I agree. It's time that 'Man In The Shadows' finally get's a proper new release. I am looking forward to it. |

I actually have a very poor quality rip of the bonus tracks, but none of them have been given titles yet as far as I know. Anybody know what the bonus tracks are (or can email me some better quality ones)? |

I have the 7" vinyl single of "No Turning Back". I bought this for $45 US back around 1999/2000 (during the Christmas period). I got this from someone in the UK. It's actually collectible just for the cover alone, with John in WW2 airfighter gear (which he wears in the video). The song is good, though it failed to chart in the UK singles charts. The video can be found as a bonus on the "Biggles" movie DVD (UK only). It's OK, IMO. The video and the song can be found in the HUB. |

When was "Man In The Shadows" originally released, and is it available on CD? Anybody have a track listing? Anybody have production credits...what John plays, writes, etc. Other musicians on the release, and who plays what, etc. |

As is "Hiding In Public", the 'follow-up' to "Man In The Shadows" |

YourValentine: "It's time that 'Man In The Shadows' finally get's a proper new release. I am looking forward to it." Respectfully, I disagree. Unless they include the 7/12" remixes and bonus tracks, I think this will sink deeper second time around, than it did the first time it was released. I mean, look at Roger Taylor. No "...Testify" or "...TV" on "Fun In Space", and no 12" or 7" mixes or "...Pencils" on Man On Fire. I want a 2xCD Set. If It's good enough for Queen, It's good enough for the Deakster ;-) |

In the meantime, while I'm uploading the MP3 of "No Turning Back", here are the credits from the single sleeve (that relate to the Immortals, not including movie credits): Performed by The Immortals Featuring Robert Ahwai · John Deacon · Lenny Zakatek No Turning Back Robert Ahwai / John Deacon Taken from the Original Motion Picture Sound Track Album · Biggles __________________________________________________________________ You can see the 12" single cover at: link |

"I want a 2xCD Set. If It's good enough for Queen, It's good enough for the Deakster ;-)" You are right, John. But we both know it would be a true miracle if it happened:) |

Cheers Richard, I did have these ages ago, but lost them and couldn't find them again. These are probably better quality... Anyone got the The Chocks-Away Mix? I've also seen a track on audiofind.ru by The Immortals called Encounter the Ultimate, but can never seen to download it. Anyone know if it features Deacy?... |
inu-liger 27.03.2005 14:18 |
The Immortals only ever recorded the one track, 'NTB'. Any other "Immortals" tracks are either fake, or are a different "Immortals". |
