Hi folks i'm back been away been ill with flu and then my son almost choked to death on the weekend i've been having some fun times of late(NOT!!!), but anyways recently revistied freddie mercury tribute concert and watched it again all the way through and i throughly enjoyed it.
I think after the 46664 gig i needed to relive queen without freddie so this one was the obvious choice,i'm glas it happened and i was very very fortunate to go a very lucky man i can tell you i'll never forget tie your mother down as the opener the place just erupted with cheers and jumping around (still getting goosebumps just thinking about it) and i want it all hearing it live for the first time was brilliant too.

Bob geldof what was he doing there? wrote a song with freddie I can't believe that.
Spinal tap waste of time
Elizabeth taylor.
A fantastic and memorable end to a fantastic group and leading showman (or so we thought).
Spinal Tap were, indeed a waste of time, but they served to lighten up the event at a time when people were getting very emotional.
Liz Taylor's rant was completely inappropriate for the event. She spoke in far too patronising a way to people that were well aware of the effects of HIV / AIDS. Personally, I believe that she volunteered to do it in order to resurrect her flagging personal profile at the time.
Innuendo was interesting for it's seque into Led Zeppelin's "Thank You" - I personally thought it was FAR better than his attempt at "Kwazee Little Thisg Called Love" - listen closely to the way he sings the lyric - it's rubbish!
Daltrey was, as ever, superb on I Want It All, but I just wish that the guitars has=d been louder for that.
Extreme were fun, but acted as nothing more than a cover band.
George Michael proved that he has absolutely the best contemporary male voice in popular music - the way he blew the place apart for Somebody To Love was truly one of the greatest ever moments in music for me. It defined the inpact that Freddie had on his peers and the esteem in which they held him. It appeared to me that it was the only time during the show where Roger was truly moved.
The most underrated performance of the day was Seal's reading of Who wants To Live Forever - again, handled amazingly and delivered with flair and feeling.
Most overrated - Elton John, Guns N Roses & Def Leppard - all absolutely rubbish without exception.
George Michael's duet with Lisa Stansfield on "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" was also brilliant and 2nd only to George's amazing interpretation of "Somebody To Love" which was the tribute's finest hour.
Interesting that - that part was so unmemorable for me, I'd forgotten entirely that it happened. I never liked Lisa Stansfield's solo work so she didn't really stand a chance with me.
Oh, yeah, then there was the cringe-making duet between Bowie and Annie Lenox. And The Lords Prayer - again, cringe-making.
Highlights being Def Leppard and Guns N Roses and Seal. George Michael i felt was trying to get 'into' Queen and was auditioning for the part of singer so i didn't like that. :(. Also Paul Young was a bit weak. Great all round show though.
Bowie, George and Plant were good. Zucchero of course is another story... IMO

I went to freddie tribute and for me G n R were best act of first half , Highlights of part II for me Seal , Roger Daltry , robert plant and Bowie . The gate we were at didn't open - metallica had already hit the stage - then we were told to use a different gate - what happened does anyone here know ? , as thousands of people spent all afternoon waiting only for the gate NOT to open why was this ? anyone ?
Most memorable moments for me :-
Lisa Stansfield coming on with the vacuum cleaner for I Want To Break Free
George Michaels Somebody To Love
We Are The Champions at the end
Crap Moments
David Bowie and The Lords Prayer
David Bowie and Annie Lennox.

i thought Paul Young doin Radio Ga Ga was quite good, yeah his voice was abit weak but its the best version iv heard of it since Freddie departed, Seal-Who Wants to live forever,Under pressure and Heroes i loved, i know its not a Queen Song but it was mint, Roger's Drummin for that was awesome, when u compare it to the album version of Heroes where it cuts stragiht in, while Roger slowly fades it in, brilliant!
I think the best track of the whole event in my opinion was All the Young Dudes followed by TYMD.
Paul Young as always was a disgrace, he has to have the weakest voice ever! Whoever decided to give this guy a record deal should be slapped silly!!
