Only 5 days left and here is what eggy posted in the other thread about the meeting in the pub "The Canterbury Arms": Here's a map of The Canterbury Arms. link As you can see its rather jolly close to Brixton. Come out of the tube and up the steps (there is only one exit). Turn RIGHT keep walking for a little while (you'll pass the beehive and the goose pubs) then you'll get to a big crossing and if you look left you'll be able to see Brixton Academy and a pub called the Showcase. However turn directly RIGHT at the lights (don't bear right as thats the main road) into Canterbury Cresent and if you have good eyes you'll see the pub about 100 yards down the right. Good pub, good beer, only thing I would say against it is the gents, which are not very nice! Proposed meeting time of around 3pm. |

YourValentine wrote: Only 5 days left and here is what eggy posted in the other thread about the meeting in the pub "The Canterbury Arms": Proposed meeting time of around 3pm.Just a small question. Since it is not regular Monday can you confirm that pub will work at that time on that day? |
Jjeroen 23.03.2005 04:52 |
Me and my mate will be there! ;-) I think I will be wearing my 'Queen 82' t-shirt (the one with the woman in uniform). Or else it might be my bald head from which I can be recognised ;-))) (We just want to leave again a bit before fivish for the ticket pick-up = since I assume my tickets won't arrive in time anymore...) |
Fenderek 23.03.2005 06:32 |
Will be there with my other half :) Gonna wear QUEENII / BoRhap T-shirt. C'mon- I guess the pub isn't that huge- we'll find each other :) C Y!!! ps Can't wait, God- I'm so excited!!! |
YourValentine 23.03.2005 06:37 |
Great- Fenderek, can you please check that the pub won't be closed? |
Fenderek 23.03.2005 06:59 |
I'll try do it today after work- will post tomorrow! |
eggy 23.03.2005 07:10 |
It's open. I was in there last night. |
Fenderek 23.03.2005 07:11 |
Cool - saves me five minut on my way home ;) |
Mr. Scully 23.03.2005 07:50 |
I'll have a black Queen T-shirt, that's for sure. And a well hidden minidisc recorder :-) |
Richard Lopata (new email) 23.03.2005 09:19 |
Shit, no shirt fits me anymore (I am really getting too fat) ... I'll be the guy stuck in the door hahahahaha |
hcrvelin 23.03.2005 10:41 |
Ha ha ha... Good one Richard! |
wegotit 23.03.2005 12:53 |
I'll be there, too But won't wear a queen-shirt (as anyone else does) |
eggy 23.03.2005 13:10 |
Can't believe so many people have even thought of their clothes for next week! Saying that, I'll wear a be wearing a blue Zutons T-Shirt! :) |
Lisser 23.03.2005 14:25 |
I am so excited for you all!! What are the chances of you guys sharing any video or audio of the concert with us when you get back??? :) pweeeeeeeeease!!!! |
Morticiaskeeper 23.03.2005 14:42 |
Just bought my tickets, talk about last minute!! I think we can make it to the pub, where's the best place to park for pub and gig? |
YourValentine 23.03.2005 15:00 |
Thomas, I won't wear a Queen shirt, either - I don't own a Queen shirt. |
Maz 23.03.2005 15:07 |
And to make up for that, YV will come dressed as a Queen, complete with crown and scepter. I wouldn't recommened that Thomas do that, however. |
Jjeroen 23.03.2005 15:17 |
Wow! I'd love to see that YV! ;-) |
YourValentine 23.03.2005 15:31 |
Who is the Queen, Jeroen? ;) |
Penetration_Guru 23.03.2005 16:01 |
Where is the Academy in relation to the pub? |
YourValentine 23.03.2005 16:13 |

Oh yes, it's marked on the map too. I'm sure the people on whose behalf I was asking will be grateful... |
Penetration_Guru 23.03.2005 16:55 |
next question...eggy, is that carpark just by the pub reaosnably secure/reasonably cheap? If not, where is the best place? I think last time (1993) I parked on St Matthews Rd (poss by the police station????) Enquiring minds need to know these things. Or do you have a driveway/garage? lol |
Morticiaskeeper 24.03.2005 02:14 |
I was wondering about doing a sort of park & ride, coming in on the M4 and parking near a tube station. Does anyone local have any ideas? Heathrow possibly? |
YourValentine 24.03.2005 03:08 |
Heathrow is pretty far out and the last tube from Brixton goes at 12:20, maybe even earlier because it's a holiday, so it's risky - better leave your car in a car port near a tube station that can be reached with a night bus. |
eggy 24.03.2005 04:59 |
Sorry, to be perfectly honest I'm not the guy to ask about parking. I've only ever gone by tube, and I can't say I've ever seen the car park that's close to the pub. But it's in a South London backstreet so... |
Richard Lopata (new email) 24.03.2005 07:49 |
So I'm staying at a hotel near Oxford Street (central London) How do I get there with the tube, what's the travel time? and most importantly: are there any tubes after the gig back to central london, or should I take a cab? And if so, do I have to order one too many goddamn questions ... but I'm a stranger in London, so please help me out on this one |
Fenderek 24.03.2005 08:57 |
OXFORD CIRCUS tube station- take VICTORIA LINE southbound and it goes all the way down straight to BRIXTON :) Travel time? About 10-15 minutes I guess... That's a quick one... Not sure about tube after gig, but shouldn't be aproblem- if it's about 11 (ish), I'm absolutely certain it's gonna be fine. |
Morticiaskeeper 24.03.2005 12:05 |
One of the guys at work says theat he parks at Hillingdon Tube Station, which is could be on my way into town. Does that sound better? just had an email from Brixton saying the ticket office will open at 4pm for pickup |
Jjeroen 24.03.2005 13:18 |
Wicked... I just got an e-mail too, saying venue pick-up starts at 5!!! (Btw: I'm leaving for London tomorrow, and as expected my tickets did NOT arrive! "special delivery" indeed...) |
Richard Lopata (new email) 24.03.2005 13:33 |
Jeroen, should we get our money back for the special delivery? It's worth the 5,75 pounds I'm leaving saturday ... going to the musical on saturday night, meeting a friend who studies there on sunday (and clubbing afterwards) ... and monday it's beers at the mentioned pub, pick up tickets and get in as soon as possible Have to get some sleep in advance, 'cause I have to be at Schiphol Airport at 6.30 (goddammit) |
Jjeroen 24.03.2005 13:56 |
5,75?? LOL! I've paid 14 pounds for that!! But not a chance we will get it back, they've already told me (and others) that those were actually 'service costs'. Bullcrap, I know, but what can we do?! Wankers... This is the organisation dealing with all UEFA stuff? HAHAHA!! Richard, your not going to London with the early Eurostar, are you? (10.00 uur in Roosendaal?) Hey, anyone going to visit Abbey Road studio's?? I'll be paying it a visit on Sunday. Great coincidence the studio's are open this weekend!! :-) |
Richard Lopata (new email) 24.03.2005 14:17 |
Actually ... (I just checked my bill), ... you're right ... I paid the same amount ... but I thought that something like 5,75 was shipping costs (special delivery as you like) No, I'm flying from Schiphol ... so I won't see you in the train. Maybe we can meet up at sunday? |
Jjeroen 24.03.2005 15:11 |
Ah, that's possible. I don't remember the exact specifications. Sure we can meet up on Sunday! But we REALY want to go to the Abbey Road studio's (and go over to Freddies house after that). If you want to join us... ;-) |
We Are The Champions 24.03.2005 18:26 |
Typical human nature I guess. Everything's done at the last minute! 1) Look forward to a gig in London! Wey heh! 2) Has my ticket arrived yet! 2) Where the f*** is Brixton? 3) Where did we say we'd meet? 3) Have I booked Tuesday off work? 3) Where can I book a hotel, park my car? 4) Must get in early to get near the front. What happens if I'm late? 5) What time is the last tube? 6) Oh fuck!! it's Easter Monday. There's bound to be changes in the tube timetables! 7) Must remember not to get too drunk or walk down a dark alley unaccompanied..supposed to be a rough neighbourhood or so I hear! 8) Thank fuck for that! It's 1 o'clock in the morning and I'm in my bed! What a brilliant show! Had a great view.....place half full (or empty). Roll on the next show....zzzzzzzzzzzzzz |
Ian R 24.03.2005 20:25 |
Having attended a gig at Brixton in the fairly recent past, I can highly recommend the car park near the Police Station (on eggy's map its location is that of the big 'P' in the box). If I recall correctly, it has supervisors stationed at the entrance & exit, making it seem more secure than normal (whatever 'normal' is for Brixton, anyway). |
Morticiaskeeper 25.03.2005 03:37 |
The only worry I've got about the police station car park is the fact that the Academy website says it closes at 11:30. will we be out by then? - still no word on when they will take to the stage |
Morticiaskeeper 25.03.2005 04:28 |
Just looked at Lambeth council website, they say the car park is closed on Bank Holidays |
Q-Nick 25.03.2005 06:18 |

You should be fine. |
Morticiaskeeper 25.03.2005 09:30 |
Just phoned Lambeth Council The multistory car park will be closed alld day monday |
Jjeroen 25.03.2005 10:10 |
