Well, this has been published today in my country, in a musical magazine. I didn't go through the trouble of translating it all, but I'm going to write down the main ideas for you. It's called "Queen, the best band ever? No way!". See what you think: Freddie sounded like a girl on Queen I. And this didn't get better until the second album, Queen II. Which was waaay better than the first, but had a silly track called Funny How Love Is, which could have been replaced by a b-side, See What A Fool I've Been (even despite it was sung in a very gayish manner). Anyway, they ruined what might have been a nice song, White Queen, not using piano on it. Bohemian Rhapsody is way overrrated, not their best song at all. And they should have released A Night At The Opera and A Day At The Races as a double album. Their 1976 Hyde Park show sounded incredibly false and in 1977 at Earls' Court they weren't top shape. Besides that, Brian's guitar solo was always very embarrassing. Jazz was an interesting album, but it all sounded like a compilation. Live Killers was certainly better than Live Magic, but it was in awful quality and it could have been made from earlier recordings. Why the heck did they use synthesizers on The Game? Flash Gordon was a bad album too. And Hot Space was a shame, crappy disco album. The Works is embarrassing too and they used very bad drums on the Works tour. They lost all their energy in the 80s, Roger's solo project The Cross (which is crap) was way better live than Queen. A Kind Of Magic is crap, Live Magic is even crappier and Live At Wembley 1986 is Crap with capital C. Of course, their solo works and all the DoRo videos are crap also. And everything after 1991 is shit, including Queen Rocks and GH3. Nowadays, Queen are embarking on a tour, betraying Freddie's memory, using a terrible substitute for their lead singer. Besides that, Freddie was gay, Brian is a loser and John is insane, maybe even dead. And Roger seems very sick after all the vodkas he took. The conclusion: Queen is an overrated band. It never was a great rock band and will never be. No way, mainly because all their songs are either about AIDS (BoRhap), drugs (Another one bites The Dust), Satan (Death On Two Legs) and gay sex (all the rest). Queen were a shame in rock music history. Hmmm people, what are your opinions on such an article? |
miffomojen 20.03.2005 13:02 |
Somebody must have dropped the journalist when he/she was very young. What an utter idiot. Anyway, thanks for sharing this with us! It's always interesting to see how ignorant some people are. |
dragonzflame 20.03.2005 16:14 |
It's hard to say without being able to read the original, but I'd say they wrote it based on their own opinion with no research at all. I guess people are entitled to their own opinion, especially if it was a column rather than a feature article which have to be more balanced. |
deleted user 20.03.2005 16:20 |
well there are a few valid points in the text - 1) See what a fool I've been - Brian mentioned on his website that it was a spoof version and he wished they'd put out a different vocal take . 2) NATO and DATR as a double album - again Brian has mentioned in interviews ( I think - could be wrong in guitarist magazine ) that with hindesight he thinks it would've been a good idea . 3) Live killers is better than live magic - live magic is so heavily edited and was once voted in a poll a few years ago as the worst live album ever. Although the rest of the guys opinions are either wrong , misconceptions / misinterpretations etc |

Freddie commented in many interviews (especially in the US) during the ADATR tour, that he could see the ANATO & ADATR being packaged as one album. Have you ever tried doing it for yourself? Burn a CD with all the tracks from the two albums on there in your own tracklist - it's amazing (well, it's not, but yuo know what I mean) how similar the material is. Articls liek this are OK so long as you can remain objective yourself when reading them. For someone to write like this, they are passionate enough to vent their fury - the quwestion is "Why?". The trick is to challenge the writer on the key points he / she raises and look for raesoned answers. Generally, you never hear back, which means that the journo is a twat that thinks they can write what the like without justification. |
Mr.Jingles 21.03.2005 09:22 |
Another homophobic idiot who is obviously pissed and jealous because this "faggot who died from AIDS" achieved through his lifetime things that he won't be able to do in a million fuckin' years. |
[ Wybren™ ] 21.03.2005 14:24 |
He talking about destroying the legacy of Freddie and some line further he says Freddie was a fag and everything Queen did was crap, so what's there to destroy according to him?!? What a loser. And BoRhap about AIDS? Were the Queenzone forums one of his (many!!!) sources? |
Rich Tea 21.03.2005 14:32 |
I think if a Journo wrote that crap in a magazine he would get sacked on the spot! The grammer sucks (even if translated) and I doubt very much that sort of shit would be published? Anyway who cares is it really worth getting upset about some sick sado I think not |
mike hunt 21.03.2005 15:11 |
i think your full of shit brother, MR. brianmay. this so called article sounds more like the assholes on this site, using the word 'crap' to describe albums they don't like. the only one who said those things were you, yes yourself. no one else would say the word crap or utter garbege, only the young kids who know nothing about the band would say that. look in the mirror. |
goinback 22.03.2005 03:08 |
Maybe he's just being sarcastic...he seems to know way too much about Queen to actually dislike them lol Maybe he's just making fun of people who actually think Bo Rhap is about AIDS, etc. |
merc 22.03.2005 03:35 |
Nice artilce. The writer is entitled to their opinion. Seriously though, trying not to be biassed, it's hard to think of one person who doesn't like at least one Queen song, even if they'd never buy an album by Queen, or even look at a photo of Freddie. I've never heard anyone say bo rhap is over rated. Also, saying that 'Freddie is gay' as an insult to the band... is this guy in grade 3?!! who gives a shit. And using three examples to generalise over all of their songs, what a wanker. John is...'maybe even dead.??!!! Sounds like the author wanted a bit of attention... Either that or BryanMay1975 needs some serious translation lessons. |
goinback 22.03.2005 03:52 |
Lol yeah maybe it was all lost in translation? :) |

After all that ranting I'm surpried that he called Hot Space a Shame, crappy disco album. Also from somebody who hates Queen so much how come they seemed to have listened to all of their music as well as all the solo stuff. |
deleted user 22.03.2005 12:40 |
I thought it was a "try and critise Queen as much as you can in less than 500 words", until I read that you translated it! I don't think I can really judge until I read the original article (obviously impossible) |

I agree with the generalized opinion of alot of these responders to your post........This sorry sack of shit (if he even exists, but then again I'm taking your word for it) is just trying to stir a pot of shit and seems to be very blind on alot of aspects of the band......Come on now...."Freddie was a fag" what kind of tireless done over diss is that?? and I agree referring to so many albums and tours as Crap is pretty unprofessional even for a journalist in my book.......Later |

I Think and believe this men/women (if i can call in that way) doesn't know about music. Is just a fucking nazi. Queen II (in my opinion) is the best Queen album, and i don't really think that "Funny How Love is" is a gay song. |

This article is a bunch of crap. Queen was a legecy and Freddie was a legend. RIP Freddie We love you. |

"The Works is embarrassing too and they used very bad drums on the Works tour" Mmmm the drum thing sounds too Queenzone-ish to me. I don't think any casual listener who hates Queen could be able to notice the difference in drums' sounds on tour. Besides that, it's simply a list of all Queen albums saying 'this is crap''that is crappier' and 'that was crap too' And what about bashing Queen II, Bo Rhap, Hyde Park and Earls Court, knowing that those are the most endeared highlights to any Queen fan - specially any Queezone member? and mostly, if he hates Queen, how does he know so much data about the band ('Funny How Love is', DoRo, vanished John, Roger Vodka drinker)?? I hate Britney Spears and I don't give a damn about her personal life or who records her videos. This was made up specially for the board, I have no doubt about it. |

Wouldn't you not waste your time with them instead of berating every single tiny detail about their career? |
Brianmay1975 24.03.2005 03:02 |
Obviously, I owe you a reply. I'm sorry I couldn't write it down earlier due to some problems with the Internet :( You wondered if the journalist really exists. And I tell you yes he does exist. In fact, you all know "him" well. Maybe even YOU are the journalist who wrote all this, not me. All of this has been said almost with these words on the Queenzone forum in the last year. That's what I read everyday when I log in to QZ: the endless discussion about Queen and Paul Rodgers (with topics like: they shouldn't use the Queen name, PR is a terrible substitute for Fred, they're betraying Fred's memory), the unending talk about John (yes even the line "maybe even dead" has been said on this forum not so long ago). Yes, Brian was called a loser and John insane. Yes there were people who said they couldn't take the fact Freddie was gay and they tried to convince everybody Freddie was bisexual, as if being gay was a shame. Yes, they said Freddie sounded like a girl on Queen I and that See What A Fool I've Been was sung in a gayish way. Yes, they said all the 80s Queen was crap and that The Cross was better than 80s Queen (and even than Led Zeppelin, if I remember well). And please don't say you've never heard anybody saying that BoRhap is overrated, cos this has been said so many times on this forum that I'm getting sick of it. You say that Hyde Park and Earl's Court are so much appreciated by all the fans? That's not true. I've read last week on this same forum that Hyde Park sounded incredibly false and that Freddie was not at his best at Earl's Court. But despite you say you love those shows so much, none of you bothered to give a proper reply to the post that claimed two of Queen's best shows were crap. And I think you all remember the talk about Live Killers and Live Magic. And all those unending annoying topics about Queen songs that could have beeen better. I don't have to look in the mirror. Maybe you should do so. I don't agree to a single line from my previous post, by the way. My apologies to all the great people in here, because there are so many nice guys and girls in here which I really admire. BUT that's how it looks like when you read the Queenzone board. I didn't want to get attention from you, I only wanted you to look in the mirror and see the how it really looks like... |

I agree, you are an idiot. Trying to sound all 'in-depth' by making up your own article full of stupid shit about Queen. Of course everyone's not going to like everything they did, even in a Queen forum! Everyone has a different way of looking at things. What were you trying to do with this... send everyone on a massive guilt trip for not absolutely LOVING everything that Queen did??!! Having said this, im sick of many of the threads on this sight ending up as a pointless debate so i'l stop here! |
1quen_fan 26.03.2005 09:20 |
The journelist wrote that probably is just trying to get some attention, and is unware that Queen is and will be more popular than she/he will ever be. |
Freddie-B 26.03.2005 10:36 |
It makes some good points until the end, where it just gets shamefully ignorant and stupid. "Queen II. Which was waaay better than the first, but had a silly track called Funny How Love Is, which could have been replaced by a b-side, See What A Fool I've Been (even despite it was sung in a very gayish manner). " I don't think that's unreasonable, Funny How Love Is isn't a highlight of Queen II for me, and See What A Fool I've Been would no doubt have been seriously improved if they were going to use it for the album. Still, bit shallow to just call it gay. "Anyway, they ruined what might have been a nice song, White Queen, not using piano on it." Again, harsh to say "ruined it" but there are a lot of people out there who could tell you that they prefer the BBC version because of the piano adding what it does. I think it's a brilliant song anyway, but I would agree that some piano wouldn't have harmed it at all. "Bohemian Rhapsody is way overrrated, not their best song at all." Well, again-it's opinion. I don't think it's over-rated, because I don't think you could really over-rate it, but I don't think it's their best song either. For a start, the lyrics don't make sense. "And they should have released A Night At The Opera and A Day At The Races as a double album." I don't agree with this, but I think if they'd dropped Sweet Lady from ANATO and White Man, and Drowse from ADATR they could have put it together into 1 big long massive work of genius. But maybe they didn't want to. "Their 1976 Hyde Park show sounded incredibly false and in 1977 at Earls' Court they weren't top shape." I've never listened to Hyde Park so I can't comment on that but certainly Earl's Court has got its fair share of guffs on it, from what I can remember. Any concert with Get Down Make Love in it should be shot down as far as I'm concerned, it's just a waste of time. "Besides that, Brian's guitar solo was always very embarrassing." I don't know about embarrassing but it went on for a hell of a long time. I think that, much as I enjoy certain parts of the solo from, say, Wembley 86-there is as much that I would get rid of as there is that I love. " Jazz was an interesting album, but it all sounded like a compilation." Well, people always say that. Of course it sounds like a compilation, it's an album of songs. They're all the same, a collection of songs is what makes an album up and we all know it." "Live Killers was certainly better than Live Magic, but it was in awful quality and it could have been made from earlier recordings." Live Magic is a bit of a fob-off, given that all the songs (bar about 3) are from Knebworth-and Live Killers is a fine example of Queen going through a transition from glam rock mincers to synth mustachioed 80s band. The songs are quite weakly put together and lack a lot of the boombast and finesse of the album versions. This is obviously quite predictable, but in 1986 they had mastered the art of performing the same song differently, (see A Kind Of Magic or Another One Bites The Dust) to make up for the lack of studio sheen. I love Dreamer's Ball, Keep Yourself Alive, and Now I'm Here on Live Killers though. "Why the heck did they use synthesizers on The Game? Flash Gordon was a bad album too. And Hot Space was a shame, crappy disco album." Both valid points, if you ask me. The synths on the Game sound to me like they're using them because they felt they should, not because they added anything to the songs. Hot Space is a crappy disco album, quite obviously made at a time when they were more concerned with being rock stars and living the lifestyle than actually churning out great music. There isn't a single great song on Hot Space, the best ones on it are pretty mediocre by their usually high standards. It's a lazy album, and poorly conceived. The Works is embarr |

A lot of the points on this "article" aren't at all wrong. This board isn't "Suck Queen Off Online.Com" it's a discussion board. If we don't think Earl's Court was up to scratch, this is where we can talk about it. If we think Queen's songs were a bit slack in the 80s then this is where we go to say so. If you came on this board expecting us all to just be stepfords, you must be living in a dream world. There are some dickheads on this board, but there's plenty of us who know what we're on about and have intelligent opinions to convey. |
