As its only two weeks now: Might even see a couple of people that went to The Cock, Hackney in 2001! If anyone has a more suitable venue for a meetup suggest it, however, I would suggest a pub called 'The Canterbury Arms' which is a two minute walk from the academy. I'll give directions if suitable numbers are interested, if not, then I'll just sit with my pint of 1664 by myself! Not Weatherspoons though, it's too small, horrible atmosphere and shite basically. I've even added a profile pic (with the help of Victoria!) to mine. All other details to be arranged. |
ianshome 13.03.2005 19:30 |
no need to sit alone i was search 4 a pub nce we pick our tickets up |
Mr. Scully 14.03.2005 04:33 |
I might be there... but I won't manage to arrive before 3pm or so. |
Mcm 14.03.2005 06:41 |
I'll come along too and sink a few beers with you zoners. I'm pretty sure i went to the Canterbury prior to Avril Lavigne show a year or so ago and Ian Dury and the Blockheads many, many years before that. Anyone want to meet up in Paris, Rotterdam, Hamburg or Budapest too? |
Mr. Scully 14.03.2005 06:49 |
Mcm - yes, some of us will be in Budapest too, we can meet there. |
eggy 14.03.2005 07:15 |
That's cool Martin, we wouldn't arrange to meet much before that anyway. Otherwise a few of us wouldn't be remembering the concert at all!! |
Mcm 14.03.2005 07:35 |
3pm ish sounds fine although as Eggy mentions, I'm not sure if my liver can take too much abuse at my age. Might have a couple of beers followed by some Tea chasers. Have you booked a hotel in Budapest yet Mr Scully? |
Mr. Scully 14.03.2005 07:49 |
Mcm - I hope a fellow Queen collector will let me stay in his Budapest flat! :-) I'm more worried about where to stay in Brixton. eggy - I'm sure I'll pretty well remember the concert... considering the beer prices in England... :-) |
YourValentine 14.03.2005 10:02 |
Okay, eggy, it's 'The Canterbury Arms' - I must be crazy!! You still owe me 5 pounds, lol. This time we have to get the Guru to join us, let's start spamming his email. I have to book my flight. I can't believe I did this. |
Jjeroen 14.03.2005 10:11 |
Do I understand correctly that you are coming to Brixton afterall, Barb?? |

Jjeroen 14.03.2005 10:14 |
Btw: anybody going to be in London days prior to the gig?? (Me and a friend will arrive as early as Saturday and are planning a Queen tour of London and lots of beer to drown our nerves! ;-) |
YourValentine 14.03.2005 10:18 |
Yes, Jeroen, I could not help it:) |
Jjeroen 14.03.2005 10:26 |
See! I knew it al along you'd be there ;-))) Anyone has any advice on where to stay? (I booked a room in Brixton, but it seems that that place is a true shithole! ;-))) |
onevsion 14.03.2005 11:49 |
Enjoy your time in Brixton people! I will see some of you in Frankfurt... (Damn those exams..!) |
Richard Orchard 14.03.2005 12:01 |
I will sort out the fan gathering section in the tour section, so that we can start publicly listing fan meetings, etc. |
eggy 14.03.2005 12:02 |
Ha ha, Barb. That's great news. Glad you couldn't resist it. Even if last night you said it was too expensive. I'll get proper directions to the pub and post them when I get home. Martin, Brixton is one of the cheapest areas of London thankfully. A pint will still sent you back between £2.30 and £2.50 though. In Weatherspoons its less than £2.00 but I ain't stepping foot in there again! No help on accomodation sorry, have a friend where I stay if I need. But i'd advise somewhere nicer than brixton which is direct from Victoria Line. |
Wiley 14.03.2005 12:49 |
Anyone meeting up in Vienna, Munich or Leipzig??. I'm going to attend those concerts all the way from MEXICO, so it would be nice to meet with someone and not be alone. I don't speak German, by the way... :S More details on the topic I just started: link Sincerely, Wiley |
eggy 14.03.2005 13:28 |
Barb, are you coming alone to Brixton? Here's a map of The Canterbury Arms. link As you can see its rather jolly close to Brixton. Come out of the tube and up the steps (there is only one exit). Turn RIGHT keep walking for a little while (you'll pass the beehive and the goose pubs) then you'll get to a big crossing and if you look left you'll be able to see Brixton Academy and a pub called the Showcase. However turn directly RIGHT at the lights (don't bear right as thats the main road) into Canterbury Cresent and if you have good eyes you'll see the pub about 100 yards down the right. Good pub, good beer, only thing I would say against it is the gents, which are not very nice! Proposed meeting time of around 3pm. Might get there a little later myself, I have a party on easter day! |
Lisser 14.03.2005 13:36 |
Barb, I'm so happy you are going!!! Have a great time!! I wonder if my email for tickets is still valid. |

For anyone still looking for a bed and breakfast: Me and my friend booked the Ebenezer Hotel, 2 miles from the Academy at Angell Road. Cheap and decent and one of VERY few places in the whole of London to still have a couple of beds left! ;-) link |

Ladies and gents; for the record (since the Queenzone meeting ought to be round 3.00): Ticketweb told me about tickets that venue pick-up could start as early as 4.00 o'clock... |
Fenderek 17.03.2005 04:16 |
OK guys- I'm gonna be there! Unless you don't want me to ;) How will I recognise you guys? :) |
eggy 17.03.2005 04:17 |
You have absolutely no need to get there that early I promise you. We are talking a Standing area of 3800 people where at least 50% of people are quite happy standing back. 7 o'clock is plenty early enough for me to even think about collecting my ticket. P.S. My pic is in my profile! |
Fenderek 17.03.2005 04:22 |
See you guys there!!!! |
Ian R 17.03.2005 05:05 |
Oh for crying out loud... PG was saying that he hopes Barbara won't be going into the Gents, because only blokes are supposed to be in there (apart from the cleaners, of course). This reminds me of a rather amusing incident in 2003, when I went to see ZZ Top at the Hammersmith Apollo. Sat in a pub prior to the gig (and in desperate need of some bladder relief) I noticed a bloke coming out of a door with a sign on it saying 'Toilets'. Without giving it a second thought, I left my table, headed for the door and found myself in a small room containg only a single toilet and a wash basin. In my slightly pissed state, the lack of a urinal didn't really bother me and I proceeded to get on with the business at hand, so to speak. Imagine my surprise, when two women burst into the toilet (I'd forgotten to latch the door) and were confronted with the sight of yours truly still standing there doing my thing. I turned slightly to see what was going on and was rather confused to see these women quickly make their apologies and shut the door. It wasn't until half an hour later whilst leaving the pub, that I noticed that the Gents were on the other side of the building! All I can say is that the cleaners must spend all of their time in the Ladies, because most Gents toilets stink REALLY badly and the less said about most men's toilet habits the better, I think... |
YourValentine 17.03.2005 05:45 |
A nice story, Ian - thanks for sharing, lol. I think we all understood the upfront meaning of what the guru said but I don't see the joke - must be some British humour. It's not my habit to visit mens rooms, I am fully aware that there are two genders and that pubs provide for separate toilets. Actually, it's the same in my country :) I know it was not meant nasty, I just do not understand the joke. |
Mr. Scully 17.03.2005 05:52 |
In fact I didn't understand P_G's sentence at all (thanks to Ian for explanation :-) but I guess the point was that YV promised to join P_G (or something like that) and P_G expressed his hopes that YV wouldn't join him EVERYWHERE he'd go. But my English is shit so maybe I'm totally "out". |
Ian R 17.03.2005 06:55 |
The intended joke behind PG's witty comment was the observation that eggy (in one of his earlier posts) appeared to be telling Barbara about the poor condition of the Gents toilets in the Canterbury Arms, which is obviously not something that she particularly needs to worry about! |
eggy 17.03.2005 06:56 |
I'm English and didn't understand it, so don't worry! Least you've finally come "out" Martin! :) |
Fenderek 17.03.2005 06:57 |
LOL |
Ian R 17.03.2005 07:00 |
Don't they teach you students some proper bloody English at University these days? In my day, blah blah blah, etc, etc.... :-) |
eggy 17.03.2005 07:01 |
Now I understand!! Thanks Ian. I meant that as a general comment, and not directed specifically at Barb, but having read it back I can see why! |
YourValentine 17.03.2005 07:05 |
Bless you, Ian for explaining, now I feel stupid. That comes from ignoring what eggy says:) |
Ian R 17.03.2005 07:09 |
You're welcome Barbara. I wish I could join you all at the Brixton gig, but unfortunately I can only afford to get to the Cardiff concert. That's life, I suppose! |
Jjeroen 17.03.2005 08:34 |
People... are you as excited as I am?? I know, this whole Brixton thing and everything around it has been a total disaster. But nevertheless... The last couple of days I just don't seem to able to stop wiggling my knees, I've got this funny feeling in my belly, I sleep less good, I smoke over a pack of fags a day, I'm on the internet all the time talking to you guys, I eat as if I were desperately in love and every now and then it occurs to me that I'm drifting away for a couple of seconds... (I even entered the wrong toilet this afternoon ;-))) To cut a long story short: I'm freakin' excited and getting more so by the hour ;-) |
Fenderek 17.03.2005 09:29 |
No- it's not only you. I can't almost sleep, all the tim eI think about it (and make stupid spelling mistakes ;) ), I talk about it annoying everyon earound, being fed up with me "Queen this", "Queen that"... Gezz- I was never a stepford, but... I can't help it!!! I feel crazy with this waiting and excitment!!! jeroen- hoiw long are you gonna be in London? |
Jjeroen 17.03.2005 09:40 |
Hehe! I've got the exact same thing; I'm driving my friends and collegues completely NUTS! ;-))) Me and a friend will arrive in London Saturday afternoon. We plan on doing a sort of Queen-tour on Sunday (course we need to go to Freddie's house one more time ;-). We go back to Holland Thuesday afternoon. |

Sorry that I won't be able to meet up as I'm stuck in Australia. I'll be back in time for Wembley though so if there's a meet then I'm up for it. Anyway Barb , there is another angle to P_G's comments. The ladies toilets at Brixton are notorious for the looooong queues and it is a very common sight for women to use the gents especially the ones in the foyer. It's not recommended for all the usual reasons especially the smell. Neil |
YourValentine 22.03.2005 09:40 |
Thanks, Neil:)) I appreciate you guys caring about my natural needs, lol. I am really sorry you won't be there. |
Mr. Scully 22.03.2005 09:48 |
OK, looks like I'll arrive to Victoria coach station around 2.30 so I guess I won't be able to be in Canterbury Arms before 4pm, considering I have to go to the hotel first... |
Fenderek 22.03.2005 10:26 |
And hey- on top again :) Six days, only SIX days... |
eggy 22.03.2005 11:05 |
Here's a good link for you: link I'm at Brixton tonight, so I hope there's no repeat performance. I guess Nas attracts a slightly different audience to Queen though, I hope! |
Fenderek 22.03.2005 11:24 |
yeah- heard that on NEWS yesterday. Weird stuff...! |
Lisser 22.03.2005 12:10 |
