hhmmm...i think there are some other bands which have sites like this. maybe gunsnroses or u2...
so i would say that queen is one of these cult bands...but defenately one of the biggest!
I don't know.....
I mean, Queen has a whole bunch of those kind of websites and such, but there are other bands in which crazy fans are ridiculously devoted to.
But before you jump to any conclusions that we Queen fans are ridiculous, let me explain.
We aren't (well at least I'm not) crazy, even if we are on this website. We just happen to like this band......a lot. So be it. I don't think we are a cult, but if that is how you see it, then I say woo for you.
Cheers
Freddie's death makes Queen a even bigger band.
Thats a fact.
Anytime you have a great band,...that exited the industry in such a fashion as this....you are hoisted to legendary status.
When you die, you becaome a legend.
Nirvana is like a younger version of Queen in the "legend" catagory.
Queen and Nirvana are 2 bands that left musical ground uncharted...so the public always has a sense of "what would they have created in the future"???
Whenever a goos band has to end early, do to something dramatic..ie: death from aids...suicide...YOU DO BECOME LIKE A CULT ICON.
Think about it....5 years from now, when memebers of bands such as Aerosmith have exhausted every possible riff and lyric....and everyone is even more sick of Steven Tyler's voice....people aren't going to give a shit about those has-beens...
But your Freddie Mercury's, John Lennon's, Jimi Hendrix's of the world died young....they will forever be legends.
There is no doubt that the ones who die young become legends in their own right. But cult? Well, it all depends on people and their actions towards the very circulating thought of "What could have been?" I'm sure John, Brian and Roger thought the same thing after Freddie died. "What could have been?" And I'm referring to their solo work and what not, but mainly as a group; Queen. So yeah, we all think that, but cult is a step closer to insanity, and as far as I'm concerned, I don't think Queen has peaked the status of creating insane cult members feveriously devoted to the band. But who knows......? I could stand corrected if one of them happens to be on here. Is it any of you? ;)
Cheers
You can have high budget hits....and still have a "cult like" following...sure...
If the Grateful Dead are considered a band with a "cult like following", then certainly Queen qualifies.
Yeah, you have right. Freddies death maybe made queen an even bigger band.. But queen maybe aren´t a cult band anyway, mainly I think because so many different people liked the band, and because they made so many big hits. But I also think queen might be an bigger cult band maybe after 50 years than nirvana would be. There will not be many peoples who remember nirvana in 50 years. But again, is the number of fans who make a band a cult band?
Maybe not...
*cough* The Beatles *cough*
The biggest band in the world ever will always have the biggest following, cult and otherwise, therefore The Beatles are the biggest ever. However, I do think that Queen fans are the most passionate and emotional. Queen fans won't let anybody who isn't Freddie do anything to Queen's music. No covers, no tours, no nothing. Electric 6 got shot down as did G4 (deservedly so). There is a reason why people rarely cover Queen songs. Because not many people have the bollocks to cover a Queen song and incur the wrath of the Queen massive.
Queen couldn't be further away from being a cult band. Cult bands don't sell millions of records all over the world, produce musicals.... a cult act has usually had a minor hit, quite a big fanbase but never quite made it big- not quite Queen eh.
Led zeppelin is more of a cult band then Queen will ever be.
Every band has it wierd and obessive followers, Those who dress up like the memebers...shit look in the picture gallery at how many ppl try to imitate FM.
I dont think Queen is a cult band, it just has more nut heads that go in public that follow them.
Marilyn Manson
cult following from the start and still has a die hard legion of fans who live and die for Mr. Warner. doesnt sell shit loads of records but still attracts enough interest to sell tickets.
