There's a feature in this morning's Scotsman newspaper about great rock bass players. They describe the Under Pressure bassline as '...a great riff, as Marmalade had discovered a few years earlier when they used it on "Falling Apart at the Seams"'.
Is this true?

Well I don't hear any similarites between "Falling Apart at the Seams" and "Under Pressure" Funny to bring up the group Marmalade because I never ever hear anything about them (I'm in the U.S. so I don't know if they're more remembered in the U.K.) I always loved their only American hit "Reflections of my life" But back to the subject, I don't get where those two songs can be compared!
:) He's such a bastard! It's bad enough that he's a damn rapper...but to steal from blessed Queen and David Bowie is just WRONG! AND THE FUCKING NERVE OF HIM SAYING THAT HE DIDN'T STEAL IT!!!!!!!!! *breathes* heh...
Having him explain the extra beat on the end sure put my mind at rest. If he hadn't included the piano I guess people would have said 'Yeah, sounds like Under Pressure...but there's something lacking'
Haha ! :) yeah - that was stupid. There was this interview on MTV, where he was like:
- It's not the same. Theirs is like "dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum, dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum". And mine is like "dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum, DUM - dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum". It's not the same !
The funniest shit ever :)
Or as us bassists say it - D D D D D A D :-)
Apparently, John Deacon was in the studio when Bernard Edwards recorded "Good Times".
Clearly, this was an influence for Another One Bites The Dust.
Although most musicians agree that AOBTD and UP have simple basslines,no one though of those lines before John. The simplicity is the genius
