--Here's one for all of you. With respect to actor Christopher Lambert, I always wondered and thought why Freddie didn't consider acting and read for the lead role in "Highlander". --Which I think he would have been....miles...better at...-- --being such a natural talented showman who pretty much acted at all of the Queen concerts to entertain his fans to the absolute maximum effect and quality.--as well as doing videos with Queen.- --For the time period of the film in the middle earth and middle ages, Freddie could easily have worn his hair long like in Queen's 1970 days.-- --Then for the modern time part of the film, I mean seriously have you seen Freddie in a tailored suit and wearing both, a black bow tie, and a white bow tie? --Perfection!-- ---What a proper Gentleman (and martial arts/sword and scorcery fighting randy hero) for "Highlander" he would have made and I'm sure any film he could have acted in , drama or comedy, period pieces, musicals, you name it, he would have been marvelous and excelled at.-- --And I truly belive with Freddie being such a showman, that he could and would have been a fine (Oscar caliber) actor.-- --Tons of singers from Streisand and Sinatra to David Bowie --("Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence", "The Man Who Fell To Earth", "Labyrinth")--have garnered tons of critical acclaim for their acting work....most of it very serious drama at that, with great scripts and storylines, and Freddie well he was a natural and so gifted.-- |

Actually, Freddie would've been better as Flash. :P ...Oh yeah! And then you could have Roger dress up as he did in the I Want To Break Free video, and he could play Dale! Perfect! :P :P |

you can't be serious? freddie as connor mcCloed - get real!!! have you seen ALL of the film - ALL the way through? what about the highland battle scenes? what about when the villages drag and beat him senseless? what about the fight scene with Kurgan? if you are going to put freddie in a film it has to be a little more genteel f-f-s he hadn't the stature to carry off the larger than life hero role - he was only about 5'9" or 5'10" Oscar calibre? you really think that - when he never once took on ANY actuing role? you have nothing to base a realistic judgement on people like jagger, madonna, Bowie etc have acted so we can say they are crap/average/good actors - freddie hasn't so at best you are hypothesising - when really you'd be better off hypotenusing - don't understand? - do the maths! |

--Ok maybe "Highlander" would or would not have been right for Freddie though I think...any..actor could have been better than hammy Christopher Lambert (Geez, Adrian Paul is a MUCH finer actor and better in the TV series),-- --but I think since Freddie was so well rounded and mutitalented in all of the arts, dance, graphic design, theater,-- --that Freddie could have had...the potential--to be a fine actor or be Oscar caliber.--- --I never said he absolutely or without a doubt would have been an Oscar caliber Actor,-- --I said he might/could have had the....potential of being that fine an actor...if he had pursued that creative path..we can only wonder and ponder now... --By the way, when Freddie tried his hand at semi-authentic opera with "Barcelona" (I wonder how many of you would have turned up your noses at the idea of "Barcelona" if Freddie had publicly announced-way ahead of time-he was doing an opera album collaboration with his idol Monserrat Caballe)--- --and I also-Now-know why his solo albums sold so poorly and much to the grave dissapointment of Freddie's artistic and business solo career champion, CBS Record Chief Walter Yetnikoff-- --who has openly said that he does not know why the fans did not receive Freddie's solo records in the MAJOR mass selling positive way he had expected and wanted and hoped for Freddie.-- --So, lighten up on Freddie and think that what might have been if he had tried acting, directing, whatever, and God Forbid...surprised all you naysayers-- --and been brilliant.-- --Also a point I want to make about the singers turned actors I mentioned that you all jumped on, when you all mentioned that Freddie had never ever acted and that his performing on stage is not the same as acting-- --is that David Bowie, Sinatra, & Streisand--had --never, ever initially acted,--they originally were musicians/singers only.-- --But,--they wanted to expand their creative horizons and gave acting a shot, and it worked.-- ---I agree, some singers SUPER suck at acting, Madonna being the worst.---She will always suck, every film she does is a trainwreck!!-- --But you all have to get out more and read the politics of Hollywood in various books about Hollywood. Case in point Frank Sinatra.-- --Sinatra was-hell bent determined to read for the role of Maggio in "From Here To Eternity" but the film's Producer thought what the hell does Sinatra know about acting...serious heavy dramatic acting at that?-- --And the Producer would NOT allow Sinatra to even have a chance at auditioning for the role.-- --But Sinatra knew that getting that role was a career maker and through certain...powers that be in Hollywood dealings...on Sinatra's behalf, he was allowed to audition for the role and he got the role.-- --And fact was, Sinatra was brilliant and won the Academy Award and went on to do nonsense macho fun films like the Rat Pack films...but he also went on to other Academy Award nominated critically acclaimed roles in The Manchurian Candidate, The Man With The Golden Arm, and Seconds,-- --Oh, and forget singers for a minute--who would have thought that mister man of action roles/few words spoken Spaghetti Westen acting icon/turned "Make My Day" Dirty Harry,-Clint Eastwood,-- --who had never, ever Directed a Serious big Budget film, would bang on every door in Hollywood with his scripts for "The Unforgiven" and "Million Dollar Baby" wanting to Direct both of those films, but because he had never directed serious films, just light fare films like "Play Misty For Me" and "Breezy", and he wanted to Direct "The Unforgiven" and "Million Dollar Baby"- --every Producer in town told him to get serious, laughed in his face, told him to take a hike, FORGET IT-- --Yeah Eastwood hiked, right to Independent financial film backers/Producers who gave him a shot and |

Freddie would be great in Highlander if Mel Brroks directed, since we could have numerous jokes about swords and cutting off people's heads |

Aw, no fuckin' way. It'd be too different of a movie. Chris Lambert all the way for Highlander. |
FriedChicken 11.03.2005 07:17 |
Freddie was a singer and composer. that doesn't mean he could also act. Some singers like David Bowie can act. But that doesn't mean everybody can do it. |

---Has anyone---thoroughly read all my posts on here,--- --where I explain that whether or not Freddie would have been right for the lead role in "Highlander", (and you know I don't really care cuz it's actually a rather B movie anyhow)-- --the real point I want to make is that Freddie had the potential to be a fine actor in movies/theater, period....had he pursued that path.--- --I really don't want to have to repeat all I already said, so before you all start debating that Freddie could NEVER act, EVER, in ANYTHING, or that Performers CANNOT ever act well,-- --read carefully all of my posts.-- Thanks peanut gallery! |

Read my examples about Frank Sinatra trying acting and actor Clint Eastwood..trying Directing.. then rethink your position on what Freddie made have been capable of in any fields of the arts. |

This does seem an absurd post. But that's okay I suppose. Why not? Anyway - "hadn't the stature to carry off the larger than life hero role - he was only about 5'9" or 5'10" What about that little shit called Tom Cruise? He gets away with it. He's not much taller than Prince is he? |

If Freddie had played the lead role in Highlander, Heather would have been Henry. |

Man, i won't even read the rest of the comments before throwing in what i first thought: "Dude, get out of the house once in a while. Talk to somebody. Find a chick, even if she winds up being a royal pain in the ass... at least it isn't debating the merits of Freddie Mercury as the Highlander." i wont say anything else other than this posting is incredible. |
