Probably more a question for the train spotters here.
Other than "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and acoustic numbers, does anyone know what Queen songs Brian recorded without the "Red Special"?
I thought it was really nice to hear Brian wailing on a Telecaster on CLTCL and this is an obvious track that gets away from his signature sound..I'm sure there must be others that I haven't picked up on. Any ideas of tracks and the guitars used?
Cheers
Matt
Good topic! One that springs to mind is Long Away, where Brian played a Burns 12-string electric, I believe.....there might be a bit of Red Special on there, but not much, anyway.....
Bri used a Parker Fly on Mother Love, and an Ibanez on Nothin' But Blue.
Under Pressure has a 12-string.
Man On The Prowl has something that sounds like a telecaster.
Sweet Lady has a brief part of guitar that sounds like a 12-string.
The guitar at the end of Sweet Lady sounds unlike the RS to me.
Well, I don't know who has noticed this, but in One Vision documenatry, you can see Brian using a ''Fake´´ Red Special. The one he is using has a black handle, but the real one has a red handle. And, you can also see the real one leaning against the wall, while he is playing the other one.

The "fake" Red Special is his Guild signature model that they started producing in limited numbers in 1984.
I think I read somewhere where Brian and John both used Fender teles on Back Chat.
Incidentally, I always thought the live performances of CLTCL were cool for the fact that Brian plays 3 guitars in the course of one song.....Ovation (I think) acoustic, Telecaster, and the RS.....
I seem to recall that by Man On the Prowl he got his way and used the Red Special (he insisted when making Crazy Little Thing Called Love that he could make the Red special sound like a telecaster, but Mack made him use one anyway).
