Hi there...
I've been reading the various topics on this board for years now and this is the first time that I'd participate on the boards, so here goes...
I was wondering the other night after watching again the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, does anybody know whether or not any of Queen's band members tell Freddie before he died that they were going to do a tribute concert in his memory? And did he get a chance to pick and choose who would be invited and who wouldn't?
No Freddie would never or didnt like talking about his death or illness so propsing a concert in his honour would of been out of the question. Definitley didnt materialise till after his untimely demise.
I doubt that the band talked to Freddie about the tribute concert, i don't think it was the case, specialy when they know that Freddie was suffering so much in that period. It's like they would ask him in what coffin he would like to be burried. The concert was a thing that the rest of the band knew to to best to honor their coleague and friend.
For fuck sake, why did you have to remind me of that? :[

However, it was announced that 'some kind of tribute' would be held the day after Freddie died in a statement released by John, Roger, Brian and Jim Beach.
I doubt Freddie chose the bands that were going to play, if he did, Guns N Roses never would have played it. Those guys are all good guys but Axl Rose is a complete jerk.

I have NEVER understood how Axl Rose can constantly say he is a fan of Queen & Freddie Mercury (just read the April Classic Rock Magazine, GNR Cover Story), yet Axl is infamous and notorious for all the homophobic remarks he made in the early 1990's prior to Freddie's death.
After Freddie's death all of a sudden Axl is a fan of Freddie & Queen & wants to participate at the FM Tribute Concert. I was surprised that Brian, Roger, & John let him and have always been.

Freddie once said he did not like Axl at all. He knew Axl was a Queen fan, but Freddie did not like Axl.
