Zander05 06.03.2005 22:25 |
With the exceptions of The Hero and Football Fight, I'd say the entirety of the Flash Gordon soundtrack, Don't Try Suicide, and Party and Khashoggi's Ship are pretty bad. I'm not saying they're the worst. But they never really did it for me. Well OK... Don't Try Suicide is just terrible. There, I said it. Good message, but just a weak song. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 06.03.2005 22:51 |
I'm such an optimist; I can always find something good about a song, but I don't think there's any saving grace for Party! Don't Lose Your Head isn't one of my favorites, either, although Freddie's vocals sound great on it. |

Jesus is pretty dire. In my opinion most of the songs on II are duff. In the lap of the gods was terrible. Drowse is not their best. Sleeping on the Sidewalk never did it for me. Fun it was quite poor. Coming soon sounds unfinished to me. In The Death Cell is just rubbish. Cool Cat is a stinker. It's A Hard Life sucks. Pain Is So close to pleasure is below par. Party is a really bad song. What is even the point of Delilah? Mother Love isn't even a half-decent track. Having said all that, Queen are still the best band ever and Bohemian Rhapsody will always be the best song ever ever ever. However, Queen's worst track was... The Prophet's Song (sorry, Brian, I just can't stand it) |

The longest post ever? Queen I: 'Jesus' is just a tedious repetition of one chord (well, not really, but it feels like it). 'Seven Seas of Rhye' is pointless. And the production? GOOD GOD! Imagine the Queen II recording being produced in this way. Goodbye Top of the Pops! Queen II: 'Funny How Love Is' is a bit better than 'Jesus', albeit with a pseudo-Spector production but ultimately... pointless and even slightly (dare I say it?) annoying. Sheer Heart Attack: None (!) A Night at the Opera: Again... none! A Day at the Races: I used to like 'Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)' in my younger days, but nowadays I find it sappy. I'm not that mad about ' The Millionaire Waltz' either. I do like my Queen a bit tongue-in-cheek and camp, but this is taking it a bit far. News of the World: I always skip 'We Will Rock You'. It's great for shouting your lungs out at ice hockey games, but not something I would put on and enjoy at home any more. Jazz: Pardon me, Roger, but 'Fun It' and 'More of That Jazz' doesn't grab my attention at all. The ending of 'More of That Jazz' is kind of neat, though. A great way to sample the album if you don't have enough time to sit through it in its entirety. The Game: From the top of my head: none, but if I had to pick one it would be 'Don't Try Suicide'. Horrible lyrics about a very serious matter set to happy-go-lucky pop music. Flash Gordon: ... Hot Space: I hope 'Las Palabras de Amor (the Words of Love)' will crawl away and die under a rock, never to return. Ugh, that's some really dreadful lyrics. Shame on you, Brian! Er, I haven't listened to any of the later albums in a long, long time so I better shut my mouth. |

"What do you think your admittedly lenghty, albeit insufferably and inexcusably, tasteless post is ? ". At-least Queen, like jesus chose the right chord, but it's painfully evident that the words and sounds of Queen, like those of Jesus have fallen on deaf ears; not excluding mine. I could go on, responding to your other retorts as well, but I am sure in the light of the above observation, it would be a horribly repetetive, totally pointless, extremely boring, and agonizingly endless exercise. |

Someone was saying something about the longest post ever...? Well, here goes... I astonish myself by actually taking a part in this conversation, but I have to express myself on this matter. As I have been reading this nonsense, I've developed a disturbing analysis of you posters here: I'd say, about 15% of all of you are actual fans of Queen (and about half of that 15% appreciates Queen's music for reasons I find appropriate), and as for the rest of you, I can not imagine for what reason should you call yourselves fans, or even consider yourselves worthy of commenting on Queen's music as harshly as some of you do. Of course, I acknowledge the fact that everyone has a right for their opinion, but please, consider the merits for your opinions very carefully before you actually lay it out for everyone. I can't think of anything as infuriating as reading an opinion which just states one's dislike as elaborately as "I just don't like it" or, "I don't like the sound of it." For instance, all that hate towards Cool Cat... some do say they hate the falsetto thing, I just happen to think the song is a wonderful composition and very relaxing, and I couldn't think of a better song to listen to while driving on a convertible whatever on a sunset somewhere in Los Angeles perhaps, which I never do, since I don't live there. Besides, Freddie's falsetto voice is probably the best of the kind I ever heard. And honestly, could you ever consider that song to be performed in a regular singing voice? I have never disliked any Queen song just because I didn't like the sound of it. Before I learned to appreciate every single song this group ever made, I used to listen and analyse and think about what were each track's merits to be released on the album. I have been a fan since early 1992, and I have since become a semi-professional musician myself, and even though I have become a fan for so many other great acts since, such as Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Suzanne Vega, The Beatles, Frank Zappa, Björk, Tom Waits, Blue Öyster Cult, Radiohead, Dave Matthews Band, Blur, Rainbow and such, I never ceased to appreciate Queen the most. But to tell the absolute truth, only recently I have learned to like the one track I never before learned to love from the Queen catalogue: Body Language. So, in order to keep the subject at hand dealt with in my post, I shall give you a chronological list and reasons for my least favourite... well, not really least favorite, but the least appropriate Queen tracks on every album, even though I thoroughly enjoy every single track for a reason or another. QUEEN: Seven Seas Of Rhye. Of course, it's nice to have this short instrumental version, but I don't see the use for this one, at least as the last track of the debut album. I know it was intended to be included on the same album as the vocal version, but something went wrong and I think the instrumental version just lost a bit of its meaning for that. QUEEN II: Seven Seas Of Rhye. It's such a separate track from everything else on this album. It doesn't quite fit the concept. SHA: Dear Friends. Being such a beautiful piece of music, it just sort of gives a "huh?" feeling in the middle of all the hard rocking. ANATO: This album is the most perfect wholeness of music ever created, but I have to choose God Save The Queen, because it's not a Queen original. ADATR: This album doesn't go far from ANATO. I refuse to pick a song from this album. NOTW: We Will Rock You. Although it truly is a wonderful anthemic sort of song, I can't help feel a bit bored of it, because it's pretty much everywhere. And I have to ask... Why try to recreate the song a dozen times when the original is so perfect? JAZZ: More Of That Jazz. Roger has a nice way of saying things, but I fear that the composition is not powerful enough to support the message. Great way to end an album, though. GAME: Everything fits here, I can't pick a song. |

Delilah. Definitely Delilah. Sorry Freddie. I'm sure she was a very nice cat. |
good_old_fashioned_loverboy1986 30.05.2005 07:22 |
Can't understand a lot of the bashing of some great 'Freddies'. I can only give my opinion so here goes that songs like 'good old fashioned lover boy', 'millionaire waltz' and 'it's a hard life' in that very camp style that queen are so great at is half the attraction! Other bands just couldn't/can't do it as well! Queen let's face it write very unique music and when a queen song comes on you know instantly that it is queen. If people listen to queen hoping for mettalica or heavy metal or conversly kitchy spice girls pop they're going to be very dissapointed. Getting off the subject slightly so I will return my worst song has got to be: Sleeping on the Sidewalk Because firstly underneath all the wonderful blues guitar it seems a bit on the small side in terms or grandeur that we know and love Brian and Queen for. We need at least 8 guitar runs! So on the that basis i'm not love of my life's biggest fan. musically speaking it is very dull even if the lyrics are very pretty. |

Headlong.....what crap |
GreatKingSam 31.05.2005 18:33 |
I ain't bein funny, but you can't really call songs from the Flash OST and most of A Kind Of Magic crap as songs, as they're from soundtracks. Taken in the context they are meant (Flash and Highlander) they are very good. So to stand them up against the rest of the catalogue is pointless, becuase they were - for the main part - made for a completely different purpose. I was never to fond of My Life Has Been saved, original or MIH version, but Body Language probably has to rank as the most pointless Queen song, albeit good for comedy value. |

Pain Is So Close To Pleasure One Year Of Love Don't Lose Your Head My Life Has Been Saved Those rank somewhere low in my personal charts. Worst is probably "One Year Of Love" even though sometimes the melody just sticks in my head and refuses to go out. I don't care much for "Pain..." either, but at least there is a bit of cleverness to it. Same goed for "Delilah", which just lacks some oomph. "Don't Lose Your Head" is bad, but it's also a bit different and weird, which makes it worth listening to every once in a while (like, say, once every ten years). "My Life..." is another skipper, just a completely forgettable song, but at least it doesn't crack the coating of my teeth as "One Year..." does. |

Bijou in Queen's crown 01.06.2005 15:20 |
What's the point in this topic? All you are doing is picking all the bad songs. Why? I thought this was supposed to be a Queen site for fans not a slanging match! |

neodave wrote: all dead, all dead it's late fun it heaven for everyoneHow are It's Late and Heaven For Everyone the worst? They are the best. AD AD is a great song also. I used to hate Fun It but not any more. I think it's pretty good now. |

Sweet Lady - A nice riff but a poor song. Son And Daughter - No comment. |
bohemianrhap84 01.06.2005 17:04 |
Definitely the worst Queen song ever is Sweet Lady. My Baby Does Me and See What A Fool I've Been receive honorable mention though. |

Loser in the End, Fun it, More of that Jazz, Fight from the Inside (you can tell I'm not a huge fan of Roger's writing), and She Makes Me |

One year of love - even Celine Dion would refuse to sing a cheesy song like this. Calling all girls You will hate me for this: '39 - I don't like. I was so happy as Q+PR played Long away instead of it in Budapest. |

Nr. 1 of Queen's weakest song for me is without any doubt Delilah. Such weak song on such great album - strange. Then I can name Pain Is So Close To Pleasure, My Baby Does Me, Body Language and maybe a few others. It's not such bad, I can listen to them all, but sometimes I wonder. Rock band Queen and Delilah? <shaking head in disbelief>. |

Well, from Hot Space I don't like Backchat and Calling all girls, too much for me....:P |
