I thought about posting this in the Queen section, but since it's more personal than Queen, this is better. I've recently found out that a friend and crush of mine sort of likes Queen. He has Bo Rhap and Under Pressure on a mix cd. We sang the former together and I told him in the middle how I've seen ballet done to it and that Freddie was doing the ballet, he replied "Awesome." Of Under Pressure, he says it's a great coming together of Queen and David Bowie. Also, while watching Vh1's "My Coolest Years" the episode about jocks, We Are The Champions was played (we're talking clips from the video here) and he immediately slings his arm up and for the few seconds it was on really gets into singing along. :D I do the same cause well duh, :P. Long story short, I'm wanting to make this friend/crush a Queen mix cd. He's a big fan of The Eagles and Beatles, Pink Floyd, he somewhat rocks out to the Darkness, and some Allman Brothers. Based on these facts, what songs would you fine people reccommend for me to put on his cd? Thanks in advance! :) |
deleted user 05.03.2005 20:03 |
Well, based on the list of his musical tastes, it seems like he prefers 60s/70s music. So maybe including quite a few of their earlier work would be a good idea. I'd certainly include songs from the 74-78 era. :^) |
MexQueenFM 05.03.2005 20:59 |
Pink Floyd- Wish You Were Here (gotta love that song) The Darkness- I believe in a thing called love I don't know if I helped you at all, but there you go |
Hitman 05.03.2005 21:08 |
""""""He's a big fan of The Eagles and Beatles, Pink Floyd, he somewhat rocks out to the Darkness, and some Allman Brothers"""""" he has GREAT taste in music.Congratulations. From Eagles if he has not the Hell freezzes over cd/dvd you can put on the mix the acoustic version of hotel CAlifornia. It's wonderful. From Pink Floyd...hum....Have a Cigar played by Brian May and Foo fighters ;) |
Queenleaf 06.03.2005 10:21 |
He does indeed have great taste. I agree with Mex (I just bought WIsh you were here the album) and Hitman and I suggest Shine On You Crazy Diamond -Pink Floyd Time -Pink Floyd I'm really in love with Rubber Soul right now - you might want to include Girl, Norwegian Wood, or something all of course by the Beatles. Hope you win his heart! :) PS Love is only a feeling - since we're on the topic of the Darkness - is a great song! |
CatGurl14 06.03.2005 19:16 |
I'm actually asking for help in terms of which Queen songs to put on the cd. Thanks for all the other musical suggestions but he for sure already has them, I've seen his collection. |
Hitman 06.03.2005 21:37 |
"have a cigar" brian+ foo fighters, too? from queen i suggest bijou ;) |

Well I have the cd list ready. Took me about two hours to pick songs that would relate to his rocker side and his Beatles fan inside and stuff I know about him based on hanging out with him. I also included the 3 songs I know he likes in the beginning to show him hey I know what you've liked singing before. ;) So thoughts on this list are appreciated: Bohemian Rhapsody We Are The Champions Under Pressure The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke The March of the Black Queen Brighton Rock Sheer Heart Attack I'm in Love With My Car Tie Your Mother Down Long Away Millionaire's Waltz Somebody to Love Bicycle Race Let Me Entertain You Play The Game Crazy Little Thing Called Love I Want to Break Free I'm Going Slightly Mad Headlong I also tried not to put a lot of greatest hits and well known stuff in there. |
LowSammy 08.03.2005 19:30 |
My personal opinion is: I wouldn't put either of the songs from Queen II on it. Brighton Rock is awsome. Tie Your Mother Down is always good. Somebody To Love,Bicycle Race,Play The Game,I'm Going Slightly Mad and Headlong. Sorry, that's all the help that I am good for. |
CatGurl14 08.03.2005 20:15 |
Why do you think the Queen II songs aren't good? Just curious |
Gunpowder Gelatine 08.03.2005 20:31 |
For most people, Queen II songs are a bit hard to get into at first. I know with me, it took awhile for me to warm up to the album. I mean, if you're just used to listening to songs like Under Pressure or We Will Rock You, it's kind of a shock to hear these songs about fairies and ogres. Anyway, that's great that your crush likes Queen! It took me forever to get my boyfriend to like anything, but now he says he likes You're My Best Friend and Bicycle Race. :) |
CatGurl14 08.03.2005 20:35 |
That's a good point about how the ogres and faires are hard to take if you just know stuff like WWRY and Pressure. However, this guy is a fan of Lord of the Rings, (somewhat I think from stuff I've heard him say), Halo/Halo 2 and loads of sci-fi stuff so I'm thinking maybe they'll go over okay. What two alterantives do you suggest then? |
iGSM 08.03.2005 20:50 |
Dead on Time and Stone Cold Crazy |
LowSammy 08.03.2005 21:59 |
I guess my favorite from Queen II is Seven Seas Of Rhye. I do like that album more now than I did at first, but it's still not one of my favorites. |
Saint Jiub 08.03.2005 23:24 |
Those two Queen II songs are perfect - leave them in. I would substitute the following: You Take My Breath Away (instead of Long Away) Dreamer's Ball (instead of Bicycle Race) but don't listen to me ... I'm probably wrong. |

CatGurl14 09.03.2005 14:32 |
I put Long Away cause I think he'd like the sound of it and I wanted a 70s era Brian song for him. I don't think he'd like She Makes Me. |

List... sounds good. Does he not have any Queen himself but he likes it or something?? |
CatGurl14 09.03.2005 21:43 |
He has BoRhap and Under Pressure on cd together and after seeing him burst into flamboyant song when Champions came on tv, I felt the urge to make him a Queen mix cd. Maybe to try and get him interested in them somewhat. edit: Queenleaf, I just visited your xanga. This is kinda freaky- we both are KY Queen fans, we live 2 hours away from each other and our birthdays are just a day apart. (you're older :P hehe) |
Lisser 09.03.2005 22:55 |
I live in KY too. Ten minutes south of Cincinnati. |
Queenleaf 10.03.2005 17:24 |
CatGurl-That's so cool! Mandy mentioned that you were from KY once. Bet you weren't born out of the country though! I think it's so cool that I will never be able to be president b/c I was forgien born! Anyway yeah, happy birthday in a couple of weeks. Glad to know you visited my site -- I feel loved! Lisser-I didn't know you were from KY! That's cool. I'm near (meaning pretty far away from actually) exit 62 on I-75. You know geeksandgeeks lives really close to you! |
CatGurl14 11.03.2005 19:31 |
You were born outside the country Queenleaf? How'd you end up in Lexington then? Just curious maybe one day it'll change that a foreign born pereson can run for President, I think you'd be a good one based on what I've seen you post. :) and I liked your site yes, so feel extra love now ;) hehe |

My mom's family is from Kentucky and I visit every summer. So...I'm automatically included in the elite Kentuckians group. Oh yeth. ;^) |
CatGurl14 11.03.2005 21:47 |
hehe but of course Alli ;) and what is "oh yeth"? not heard that before. :) Are you visiting this summer? If you are, about when? I'm having a visitor in from across the pond near the end of June, she's also a Queeniac and if we could all meet, may be neat. |
deleted user 12.03.2005 10:46 |
I am almost certain that we will be visiting this summer, although I don't know what the set dates are. We will be going to my aunt's house in PA and her beach house in New Jersey and then on the way back, we'll be stopping to visit the rest of my mom's family. Anyway, yeah, it would be cool to meet - when I find out mroe details, I'll let you know! :^) |
CatGurl14 12.03.2005 22:07 |
Sounds good Alli. :) Hope you have fun visiting all of your family. |

Yes, I was born in Maturin, Venezuela. But I've lived in Kentucky since I was 4. We should have a big Kentucky Queenzone party! But it will have to be before too long b/c I will be going to college far, far away! I didn't know you had relatives here, Miss James! That's nice. I think that is everything I wanted to say... |

Allman Brothers Band (One of my all time favorite bands) For love or ballads "Melissa", "Blue Sky" To Rock Out, "Statesboro Blues", "One Way Out", "Whipping Post" To Jam, "Jessica", "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed", To Boogie, "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'", "Dimples" Just plain Mindboggling Awesome "Dreams" |
CatGurl14 18.03.2005 12:40 |
Yes he loves The Beatles loads. |
CatGurl14 18.03.2005 12:42 |
and Queenleaf- where are you going to college? I may be going to EKU or UK. Maybe we could work on getting the QZ KY party. :) |
Queenleaf 19.03.2005 11:51 |
I was going to apply to UK but I'm not going to now. Alas! I'm going to WTAMU in Amarillo, TX probably! Well yeah, though, I'm all for a party so hmmmm I think late August would be good for me. I don't know. Where could we have it? Any ideas? What should we do? |
CatGurl14 19.03.2005 18:09 |
hmm late August is good. Time and place that's a different story. I'll think over some ideas and get back to ya. As long as you're happy where you go to school, I think it doesn't matter if it's out of state or not. What are you wanting to go into? |
Queenleaf 20.03.2005 09:28 |
I'm a violin major. How lucretive, eh? :) The reason I'm going to TX is I love my teacher there -she's one of the best teachers I have had and I haven't had her very much, just at music camp so I want to study with her in college. |
