hmm .. I don't have problem with it; It is QUEEN that stands big at the advertisements, i't will be QUEEN that will be big at the cd and dvd cover, it is QUEEN's come-back tour .. I just think it's fair. And you can say that it was Queen who gave Paul the opportunitie to Tour. Without Paul, the Queen-boys wouldn't even tour .. So .. it really doesn't botter me at all :P |
YourValentine 01.03.2005 10:55 |
I think this one is pretty weird link He does not make any difference between his solo concerts and the Queen+PR gigs - you might think it's all Paul Rodgers solo. |
Benn 01.03.2005 11:48 |
Why would this set of merchandise have ANYTHING to do with Queen? The web-site and this particular section is devoted to Paul's *SOLO* touring. Paul has had an extremely successful career without having had ANYTHING to do with Queen - his on-going commitments with Bad Company keep him at the top of the tree in the states as evidenced by the recent Bad Co. live CD / DVD release. Add to that his product with Free, The Firm, his tribute relaeses to Muddy Waters and hendrix as well as numerous solo albums and you have a career that is more prolific than any of the members of Queen put together. |

It has something to do with the Q + PR tour Benn. Just look at this pic link, those are the Q + PR dates. |
Penetration_Guru 01.03.2005 14:26 |
Maybe, and I'm just guessing, but maybe he's catering to his fans. Heaven forbid... |
akan 01.03.2005 16:13 |
maybe he doesn't know about the merchandise. It can be realised by his managment without his opinion. |

I'm not trashing PR, (he's a pretty good singer) or Brian & Rog or getting into the should they/shouldn't they debate - this is merely my observation and thoughts. I'm just curious that all of sudden Brian and Roger come out saying they've had this long association with Paul Rogers when he has never been mentioned in interviews or any biographies before by any of the Queen members?(I will humbly stand corrected if someone can find anything!) I think they even have said he was friend of Freddie? BUT before the Hall of Fame bit I have NEVER heard of Paul Rogers before. People are saying that he has had a successful solo career before this but I have never seen any albums of his and I've been cruising music stores since I was a teenager - that's 25 years. So where has he been and who has he been playing with that he so goddamn great?? If he has a solo career, where and what is his music? It just seems to me that he has had a stroke of luck being asked to front this tour because lets be honest not many people really knew about him before this? And I think he was asked because Brian and Roger didn't want a BIG name in front to take away from them - otherwise they would have asked George Michaels or Robbie Williams etc? As to the merchandising bit, not that I agree with it but he or his management are probably being business smart and getting on the gravy train before it leaves because I doubt that PR will have this amount of success once the tours are over. |
bellydancer 01.03.2005 23:31 |
Okay, woops Benn, I didn't see your post. But, I still say that he can't possibly be as well known as Queen was/is before he was asked to front the band? |
YourValentine 02.03.2005 06:20 |
Paul Rodgers has done various collaborations with Brian May 1991 they played the Expo 92 Guitar Legends in Sevilla together, Paul Rodgers sang "All Right Now" and "Hey Joe", Brian played guitar to these songs and he was the musical director of the event 1993 Brian played guitar to "I'm Ready" on Paul Rodger's album Muddy Water Blues 1996 Brian performed on stage with Paul Rodgers in Los Angeles 1996 Brian and Paul Rodgers both performed on the Rock Therapy charity single "Reaching Out" I think they even performed on TOTP but I am not sure Maybe there was more - this is just from memory. He is apparently a long time friend of Brian and as such sure a good choice for the tour. Paul Rodgers had numerous hits, if you don't know him, it's not his fault:) I am sure you would recognise such classics as "Shooting Star", "All Right Now", "Feel Like Making Love" and " I Can't Get Enough Of Your Love" if you hear them on the radio. |

BellyDancer, re: >Okay, woops Benn, I didn't see your post. But, I still say that he can't possibly be as well known as Queen was/is before he was asked to front the band? If you had any inclination to discover him, I'm sure that you will already be well aware of the following links that provide detail on Paul's career: link link It's certainly not an issue whether Paul is or isn't as well-known as Queen, but what is certain is that Paul's voice is possibly one of the top 5 miost recognisable in the history of Rock and that Free and Bad Co. were two of the most influential bands from the late 60's to the mid-70's. As for your cruising of record stores since you were a teenager, perhaps you should stay out of the sections marked "Queen".......... |

It's Paul Rodgers Solo tour merchandising. This can only mean that he's going to open voor Queen. |

willem-jan wrote: It's Paul Rodgers Solo tour merchandising. This can only mean that he's going to open voor Queen.that's really clever...! I also think he will be the opening act. Doing solo stuff for about half an hour and than play live with Queen. Queen will also have their own merchandise..i'm sure! They will be that smart to do so. I mean, they know that every new product with the name Queen on it will sell (that's why they will release QOFATB on vinyl) So don't worry Queen will also have their own tour merchandise... i think. |
willem-jan 8923 02.03.2005 09:04 |
They will for sure have merchandising as well. About the LATB release on vinyl: that was because of the huge demand of fans. So, they actually listen to the fans and release this product on vinyl as well. I don't think they will make that much (if any) money on this release. |

It's quite funny if you watch the video, as PR looks like a greasy balding chip shop owner. Nice! |
RohemianBapsody 02.03.2005 11:44 |
I don't think Brain or Roger will be that bothered as I would imagine there are no exclusivity clauses on the merchandising. |
Penetration_Guru 02.03.2005 13:54 |
Brian also joined PR at the London Forum in 1994 on the Muddy Waters tour. And to be honest, belly, the fact that you haven't heard of him says a lot more about you than it does about PR. |

Allow me to clear up the discussion on the notoriety of Paul Rodgers. He has been tremendously successful with Free and Bad Company, yes. People are familiar with this man. However, he, as a solo commodity, is not famous. TO say Paul Rodgers has had a lot of famous songs is a lie. TO say that Free and Bad Company had a lot of famous songs would be truth. It's like saying Roger Daltrey had a lot of famous songs; yes, he did while fronting The Who, but not as a solo commodity. And Paul Rodgers (as a person) is a bit less famous then, say, Elton John, George Michael and Robbie Williams, the three most-oft mentioned possible frontmen for a Queen+ tour. |
YourValentine 02.03.2005 16:22 |
QueenZeppelin, how is it a lie to say that Paul Rodgers had numerous hits? True, he had them with Free, Bad Company AND as a solo artist. It's useless to ague about who is to credit when an artist has hits with songs he wrote/co-wrote and sang in a band or as a solo artist. But I really would prefer not to be called a liar. link |
bellydancer 02.03.2005 17:41 |
'Scuse me Benn but why did you have to go and get a little nasty like that? As I said in the beginning, I think Paul Rodgers has quite a good voice. I was merely making an observation which you have to admit that MOST PEOPLE do not know who Paul Rodgers is. I'm not trying take away from his achievements, I'm not trying to trash him, and after looking at this topic I now know more about him. I humbly stand corrected and more informed. And for your information if you looked at my profile you'd see that my music tastes DOES go beyond Queen. I have a music collection of over 200 CD's, 155 tapes and 70 LPs which not only has contemporary rock but such diversity from new age, alternative, ethnic, jazz and classical - music that spans from the 1940's up to today. My husband has twice as much a collection. I really don't think you need to make the assumption about me that just because I don't know about Paul Rodgers that my music tastes are limited to Queen. |
bellydancer 02.03.2005 17:49 |
And just an add on to that and from comments on others, so what if I didn't know about Paul Rodgers before this? That doesn't make me any lesser a person or a fan of good music. Can't anyone make an observation around here without people taking offence and trouncing all over you?? |

>It's like saying Roger Daltrey had a lot of famous songs; yes, he did while fronting The Who, but not as a solo commodity. Incorrect Both Giving It All Away and One Man Band were top 10 hits for Roger in the UK as singles, whilst Daltrey, Ride A Rock Horse and Under A Raging Moon were huge sellers as albums both in the UK & US. His recent hits collection "Moonlighting" is currently residing, as we speak, well up in the top 40 I believe. I think his solo version of I'm Free from the London Symphony Orchestra Tommy album was also a top 5 single in '72. You also have to remember that he was HUGE as a solo performer / ACTOR with his roles in the films Tommy, Lizstomania, McVicar and The Buddy Story (or was it Buddy?) and has had great success with TV roles such as that in Highlander. His profile was also recently raised when he received his gong from HRH Queen Elizabeth II.......... |

Paul Rodger's most successful work has come under band names ,that is why his name is not as well recoginized. There are many people who may like and know Queen songs and would recognize Freddie Mercury's face and voice but may not necessarily know the name Freddie Mercury. His solo chart sucess(if he had any) obviously does not rival Queens sucess. There is some similarity in the comparison of name recognition. |
