what do you think about it? In the new DVD it sound at least really good. Many of the short songs are really good - and maybe just because they are so short, for example The Hero, Nevermore, Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon and others I cant remember at the time.
Which one of the short songs do you like the most?
Well, since there are only 2 songs whit lyrics on the album it would have been an exellent idea, and especially when the hero is much better than flash. I cant understand why flash was the first and only single at all!!
I remember that that was the only song I'd listen to on that album. But now all I listen to are Flash's Theme, Football Fight, and The Hero. I actually like the little reprise of Flash at the end.
Lester Burnham wrote: 'The Hero' should've been a second single from Flash Gordon.
Definately! But they'd have to remove the montage at the end and give it a proper ending part. But I've done that by myself, so if I can do it, QPL can definately!
I think Jeffrey (DeaconFan) actually did an edit himself and he sent it to me, and it only runs at 1'54, so I can see why Queen wouldn't have released it as a single. Then again, one of their shortest singles, 'We Will Rock You', ran only seven seconds longer and look how that song ended up.
Well there's no doubt "the hero" ROCKS but it's not much a masterpiece in my opinion.... the easiest chord progression EVER created by Brian...yup, actually it's efffective, i think it's perfect to rock the audience at the beginning...Even the "yes you're hero" moment sounds odd to me...
But the 5 power chords at the end ARE a Queen trademark ;)
Ahh yes, and 'Flash', the song where Brian thumps on one note on the piano for nearly three minutes, is a work of art :P
I think 'The Hero', despite (or maybe in spite of) its mock Bo Diddley riff and it's short running time, is still miles better than 'Flash' as it's just a good old rock song, which is what Queen seemed to be getting away from at that point in their career.
Envious that the UK had it as the concert intro. The States ended up with a very lame 'Rock It/WWRY'.
The movie version would have made a nice B side for the Flash 45 (or at least been the bonus track on the Hwood CD).

I've alway's thought that anything played Live from the Flash Album (and Hot Space) IMHO are much, much better then the Studio Versions.
The Flash Medley played Live in Japan '81 are just so cool.......:)
I have never said that Flash-theme is a masterpiece.
Honestly "Flash" is just a soundtrack to me, it can't be as good as an album. There are some nice tracks (the wedding march, football fight...) but i'd never start with Flash to describe to friends of mine how great queen were.
(on the other hand the FURIA soundtrack from Brian sounds better) hey it's a lot of time FUria is not discussed on the board ;) c'mon friends...!
So IMHO this song in Am with voices of actors crying that they still have 14 hours to save the planet isn't better than the hero, though it's queen and it has the "usual" class :)

I just bought the Flash CD today... And well, the studio version of the hero is not as good as I thought. I sounds much better on stage (as many other queen songs also!). But it would still have been a good single release.
speaking of stuff not talked about ,
what about Starfleet ? [ the Brian May
solo e.p. ] I thought it was pretty good.
[haven't listened to it in years, only
have it on a cheap " Capital " tape - hope it
still works [!] ]
Chico, the entire Star Fleet album is included on the Japanese "Resurection" cd. It also features Brian on the Tonight Show (Back to the Light and TYMD w/ Slash). I had the tape, record and found this cd in Australia.
This is a great song live.......It completely gets me hyper and amped like a mofo on the new DVD when Freddie runs out on stage singing this and its a very good opener even better than We Will Rock You (Fast).........Peace
