I was reading through some articles on the net, when I found this snippet in an interview with Freddie, which I think sums up exactly what I and many others here feel about the forthcoming 'Queen' Tour. And before I start getting metaphorically tarred and feathered, remember that it was the great Mr Mercury who said this. I'm just agreeing with him!
"If anyone left Queen, anyone of the four, that would be the end of Queen. We are four equal, interwoven parts. And the others just couldn't function the same without each quarter."
I just wanted to put down my final point in the 'This Tour shouldn't be billed as Queen' argument. Now I've done it, I promise not to mention it again. And to all of you who have shelled out for (absolutely extortionate) tickets, I hope you have a really great time, but it still just doesn't sit right with me.
Have fun guys!
Pete
Things change.
People change.
Times change.
2005 is much different than 1991.
How would you like millions of people to hold you to EVERY word you said thru-out your life?
How would you like to lose the freedom to change your mind?
How would you deal with millions of people thinking they own you?
Good points every one. However, I'm not tryinfg to sound as if I 'own' Brian and Roger. All I'm saying is that in my opinion (if opinions are allowed) there is something not quite right in the way that this tour has been handled and promoted from the word go. I don't expect everyone to agree with me - the world would just be full of a different type of stepford if that were the case - but I just like to put my point of view across in a dignified way (unlike Bryanspermedpoodle)
Great King Rat-
You and I see exactly eye to eye.
I love Rog and Brian.
And I would love to hear both of them make new music.
But Queen is over...Freddie isn't coming back, and neither is John.
I greatly wish Brian and Roger would drop the Queen name. Queen ended in 1991. No matter which member died... if one left, the legacy is over.
It came too soon, but it did end in 1991.

Ended in 1997...with No-One But You, the LAST Queen song.
What's in a name. we all know that it's not Queen as we know it, and that's what Fred's talking about in that interview and that's what Brian and Roger still acknowlege.
They're doing something different, but are using the name because it carries more weight, allows them to promote the tour more successfully and to book and sell out bigger venues etc.
If you don't go to see Brian and Roger with PR because it doesn't feel right as they are using the name Queen, then you're cheating yourself out of seeing some great musicians playing some of the music you love most.
That's the way I think about it.
it's just a name....

So with you mate.
I have seen Queen (all four of them) live, and am not taking this as a "Queen" concert.
This concert is 2 parts of Queen, playing music I love with a lead singer that Brian and Roger think will take the music in another direction.
If this is the argument everybody is using NOT to see the concert, will these same people not go and see WWRY as the original band members are not playing ?
If you want to hear and see Queen music played by at least some of the original members this is the tour you HAVE GOT TO SEE :)
I'm with you, I personally am happy and excited to see the tour.
But it is not Queen. It never will be, it can't be. The people that get so passionate and defend and rationalize how it "is" Queen, well, there are worse things to be so passionate about I presume. Some people live through their passion for Queen, and it's understandable, but deep down, everyone knows this is not Queen, it's the music of Queen featuring Brian May + Roger Taylor, w/Paul Rodgers on vocals. If it even *was* Queen, there wouldn't BE any Free/Bad Company songs. And please don't argue with, "oh, Queen used to do covers all the time"- if it were Queen, you'd be getting Queen, not 90% Queen and the new vocalist's handful of hits.
So, I'm excited, and I respect Paul Rodger's chops. But saying he was their hero, and a huge influence on Freddie- is just Brian May rationalizing as well. But hey, he can put it anyway he wants- hes Brian May and we all owe him alot for contributing to the soundtrack of our lives, right?
