someone said that Freddie sang it for 5 shows after Lennon's death in 1980/81 (since it was in december) So its probably a December 80, or January 81 show.
so they did it within a day of his death at london concert!, lennon died on 8th dec in new york, which would be the 9th dec in London, same date as they performed it. Was Freddie was a Lennon fan? i think he was wasn't he?
p.s thanks for information
freddie was a massive lennon fan and julian introduced his dad to the queen sound, infact "crazy little thing called love" was one of the tunes at the time that made john come out of retirement
NOVA- you have not seen "Queens' Greatest Flix"(Lazer Disc Version) on their during "Killer Queen" introduction it lists all the band members Favs:, Likes, Dislikes, Etc and for Freddies' Favourite Musician it is: John Lennon. So him giving a Tribute is no suprise, Although I have not seen any of them. I would love too. Queenette
Though they had vastly different voices, you can tell Fred's a John Lennon fan the way he sings some things. Don't ask for specifics, but it's there, just listen.
