I was just wondering, if he never sang with Brian, Roger and Freddie in the recording studios, why does he mime in the videos and the concerts?
Any suggestions?
Stupid, I know, but I just had to ask.
There is one piece of evidence for John singing that I know of. If you watch the Earls Court 77 show, during Liar when you get the 'All Day Long' bits, all four guys join in, and you can REALLY tell which one s John. No wonder he never did it again after that. But hey, he still probably sounds better than Roger 'Gargling with razor blades and bleach' Taylor!
Just to look great I guess, it's better to have ALL of them singin, not just 3 and one is not.
Or maby he likes to sing along but doesn't want it to be heard.
When he stays and just play - you ask 'why he does not do nothing at all?'
When he sings - you ask 'why does he sing?'
Etc. etc. etc.
So, guys, what John should do for no more questions about his actions?!
It's true on the "Story of Bohemian Rhapsody" Roy Thomas Baker tells that John could actually sing but never did so on studio recordings because he didn't like his own voice.
Oh yeah and like mentioned before, you can hear very well on Somebody To Love at Earls Court that John is singing.

lots of musicians dislike their own voice - john lennon hated his
You can hear John also in Somebody To Love at Earl's Court '77 in the final chorus. "can anybody find me". A horrible voice. But He always tried to sing in concerts.

fine! And so is Roger's King Rat. And all who listen KING RAT IS AN ASSHOLE!
I love an eloquent discussion with good reasoned arguments, don't you?
Don't get me wrong, I think John is the greatest rock star on earth, but the fact that he wasn't confident with his singing really shows when he did sing. And as for Roger's voice, as I said on another thread recently, back in the day, he was one of the best backing singers in the business, but these days....

Well John didn't always mime all the time in videos. On play the game when it goes "Play the game, play the game, play the game, etc, John just stares at the camera!
And I think John sings when he feels relaxed enough. On Live At Wembley, on one of the songs when they're just messing about you can see John is really laid back, and he sometimes sings the backing vocals - using Roger's mike.
don't have anything constructive to contribute but i did find this quote that i thought u might be interested in. it's from a radio show:
Jacky: We discuss yourselves.. and I think a burning question is we all want to know if you have heard John sing.. and what did you do about it?
Roger: I'm afraid I have to admit.. I have heard him sing.. and that's why you cant find him on the records.
Jacky: I have heard he have a fab singing voice.. especially in the shower...
Brian: Oh? have you been there?? I must have missed that..
Roger: I wouldn't have known about that.. he's a great bass-player though.. for a singer..
Jacky: so he doesn't actually sing on any of the records then.. or anything like that?
Brian: I don't think he's ever been nearer than a couple of a inches to a microphone and made any kind of noise what so ever..
Jacky: o, that's a shame...
Roger: well actually, he is quite silent.. he enjoys.. not saying much
Jacky: Yeah. this was like a burning question.. does he sing or doesn't he.. and there's lots promotional pictures of John with his mouth open.. and we didn't know if anything was coming out..
Brian: I have to tell you I do remember John singing the lines to Another one bites the dust to Freddie. so it is possible you know.. but he's a bit shy about it.. he doesn't like to sing in public

John could sing fine, he was just far too embarrased and shy to do so in public.
That's what people tell me, that I can sing just fine but I'm FAR to embarassed and shy to do so.
Oh btw where can I find this Earl's Court concert. I'd LOVE to see it. Can anyone help?
