1 try. Lucky guess? I can't say. I was surprised I figured it out in one try. |
Maz 20.02.2005 23:45 |
Yes, but you have to keep doing the puzzle until you can get it right every time. Lucky guesses don't count |

I really hate it when somebody doubts my skills. I really do. Forgive me for the spoiler. |
Maz 20.02.2005 23:58 |
First off, you gave no indication that you had solved the pattern. All you said is "one try," which for all I know meant you guessed right once, then stopped. Second, thanks for ruining the fun because you thought I insulted your ego. No need for anyone else to try it now that you got mad and gave it away. I really thought you were more mature than that. |
deleted user 20.02.2005 23:59 |
Edited. Sorry for the trouble. |
Bohardy 21.02.2005 05:42 |
I love myself. Got it after about 8 guesses, within about 1 minute. |
The Mir@cle 21.02.2005 05:57 |
It's easy |
Maz 21.02.2005 09:21 |
I've noticed with others that either you get it quickly, or you get only after much frustration and profanity. If you read the instructions, it says that smart people tend to take longer to get it. I can only infer how that might apply to you, Bohardy. |
Daburcor? 21.02.2005 10:31 |
I had to stop... It was driving me up the wall. |
rachael mae. 21.02.2005 13:16 |
Im so stuck!!! :S |
DeaconJohn 21.02.2005 14:34 |
Aye, I got it too. Took me a few goes, and the fact that they give you the correct answer when you get it wrong does help. |
AC 21.02.2005 16:39 |
After an hour of thinking about it and even some hints, I wasn't able to understand it. Many thanks to the person who gave me the solution. I would never have thought about it. |
Janet 21.02.2005 16:53 |
*edit*...I just thought I'd erase this just in case what I said could be considered a spoiler. I don't THINK it was, but better safe than sorry...suffice it to say that my son is far more intelligent than I...lol |
Sonia Doris 21.02.2005 16:54 |
hm... |
geeksandgeeks 21.02.2005 17:44 |
After a few minutes I figured it out, but up to that point it was maddening! Being a brain-teaser geek myself, I know that not being able to solve something like this can drive a person insane in a short time, so if no one minds I'm just going to say: quit looking for complex mathematical patterns, if that's what you're doing. Although apparently that means I'm dumb. I would like to think I'm just good at that kind of thing :) Thanks for the link, Zeni. |
Brimon 21.02.2005 19:01 |
Stupid puzzle. *stamps foot down, and walks off muttering to himself.* |
Mr.Jingles 21.02.2005 19:19 |
Took me like 10 tries to get it. Funny thing is that it's a very simple thing instead of something particularly complex. So for those who are still trying, don't wreck your brain, and try to find the meaning on the instructions (which has very little to do with complex mathematics). |
Brimon 21.02.2005 19:55 |
You know the more people tell you how easy it is, the more frustrating it gets. *kicks cat* |
KenJ_1986 22.02.2005 00:17 |
I couldn't get it, so i cheated and looked up the answer to the puzzle. I'm not going to spoil it, but you REALLY DO have to be SMARTER to NOT be able figure it out... |
Saint Jiub 22.02.2005 02:02 |
It took me a while of frustration and gursses to get it. There was at least one time I was certain I solved it, only to be aggravated. When I finally got it, I was so flustered, I had to test it many time to make sure I got it (and that it was not dumb luck). |
Goo 22.02.2005 15:32 |
I can't get it!! I've gotten a few right answers, but they were just lucky guesses, and I can't figure it out! Grrrrrr . . . |
Yogurt 22.02.2005 21:06 |
Neither can I. |
Carrots Of The Piratebean 22.02.2005 21:31 |
"It had taken Dr. Duke well over a year himself, and he would always explain that the smarter you were, the longer it took to figure it out." I must be as dumb as fuck then - coz I got it right away. |
Yogurt 22.02.2005 21:32 |
I'm starting to get frustraited. |
Yogurt 22.02.2005 21:56 |
I FINALLY GOT IT!!!!!!! It took forever, but I got it. I hate thinking outside the box. |
Farlander 23.02.2005 00:54 |
I was presented this a long time ago. I knew what the answer was before I even saw the first example. But to my surprise, when I showed it to some of my friends who are at least as smart as I am, they failed to figure it out. It's really weird how some people get this right away and some just can't get it. |
Lisser 23.02.2005 09:57 |
I thought I had it but I didn't. Now I can't stop trying to figure it out and I have mass work to do. Zeni if I get fired over this, will you pay my bills for me? ;) |
rachael mae. 23.02.2005 11:10 |
Can somebody please email me on mae250790@ntlworld.com, with how you solve the damn thing. :o) |
Brimon 23.02.2005 11:29 |
I've just got it. Hurrah. I've emailed you with the answer.:) |
Lisser 23.02.2005 14:03 |

If your ability to think logically is better developed than your mathematical knowledge, that's a good thing, and moreover, if you cannot think in terms of trying to find the simplest solution to a problem, you are just plain stupid. |
agneepath! 11994 23.02.2005 15:36 |

Thanks to Robyn and Brian for emailing me. It really is so simple! lol |
iGSM 23.02.2005 18:30 |
Hm, I haven't got it yet but I think I'm getting the hang of it. Once I figure it out it'll be great to annoy my friends with. |
Saint Jiub 24.02.2005 01:57 |
The math involved is very simple and almost negligible. The small amount of math used is secondary to finding the knack. The trick to this puzzle is recognizing the reason for the Queenzone topic name. One thing is for sure: the harder you think, the worse the puzzle gets. |
YourValentine 24.02.2005 04:54 |
We used to play this with real dice. It went with a story: "In the arctic there are polar bears. The polar bears dig holes into the ice. They are sitting around the holes. When there is not hole, there is no polar bear." Then the dice were rolled and the question was: how many polar bears do you see? If you know the solution you can play the "next level" It goes like this: "In the antarctic there are penguins. The penguins dig holes into the ice. They are sitting around the holes. When there is not hole, there is no penguin." If you solve the first enigma, you'll solve the second sooner or later. |
AC 24.02.2005 17:32 |
And after polar bears and penguins, the third enigma is something like this: In the desert there are camels. The camels sit and drink around oases. When there is no oasis, there is no camel. Now, how many camels do you see? |
dragonzflame 25.02.2005 03:51 |
I curse you to the day I die...or the day I figure it out, whichever comes first. I really thought I had it for awhile there...but it didn't happen :-( |
Rhye 25.02.2005 04:56 |
I don't know about my intelligence, but got it in one try. I'm surprised to see how much trouble it's causing people. |
English Bowman 25.02.2005 05:15 |
Got it 2nd try, (and 3rd etc so it's not luck) Dan |
YourValentine 25.02.2005 05:42 |
No, AC - the stories have a reason:) |
AC 25.02.2005 07:01 |
Yeah, now I know... However, the answer is: I can see camels only when AC is near. |
dragonzflame 25.02.2005 16:28 |
I got it! I must have spent a good hour cursing it but I stopped, went to bed and it came to me just as I was brushing my teeth. And now I understand the significance of the stories - very clever! |

iGSM wrote: Great fucking God. I got it. That dragonflamez..your vibes helped me get it.Always pleased to be of assistance. I think if you try and forget about it for awhile your brain subconsciously thinks about it which usually leads to that flash of inspiration. My problem was that I had to wait until morning to see if I was right. |

Goo 02.03.2005 17:14 |
YAY!!! I finally got it yesterday! Wow, that took me ages! I figured it out at school - and it was really funny, cause I showed the site to my friend, before I even knew the trick, and he got it on his 3rd or 4th try. Then we got kicked off the computer because the teachers though we were playing a video game, but I was unwilling to give up, so we made dice out of paper, and after about an hour it finally came to me. The weird thing, though, is that I got to a point where I could remember every single influential combination of numbers, and I was getting all of the answers right, and I didn't even know the trick yet, lol! We spent the next hour trying it on a crowd of about 10 other people, and it was SO funny! |
