Well I've just heard him perform We will rock you and we are the champions.
Vocally he was very good, but he does put his own take on the songs. I'm not sure whether I like that or not, or just would like to here them sung as they were made.
You know when Will Young sang we are the champions and put his own take on it, well thats what Paul Rodgers did with both songs and I find it difficult to get swayed to whether I like it or not. Any opionions on how you would like to here the songs sung?

I completely love and admire the fact that Rodgers is not trying to be Freddie Mercury. He is being Paul, singing songs that happened to be once sang by Freddie. Every time I watch the Hall Of Fame video from last year, I feel incredibly proud to be a Queen fan.

ditto
After watching them at Buckingham Palace with Will Young and listening WATC recorded with Robbie I needed sth like that to be proud of them again. Recent DVD releases were steps in right direction (Milton Keynes, DVD-As), and was just one thing missing- and I'm going to get it now-
always liked Paul Rodgers, always loved the 70-s period of Queen, when they really rocked. Never cared too much about 80s- hence I couldn't see Queen going out with the likes of Robbie or George Michael- TYMD or SCC are the ones I'm waiting for, not IWTBF or Radio Ga-Ga... So when they did Hall Of Fame- I was amazed, I was proud again, I wanted them to take it further. Luckily, they thought the same- they decided to go on tour and- if everything goes well- record some new material afterwards (which would mean another tour?). I don't care how the project is called- Queen, Freen or whatever- I was waiting for sth like that for along time, I haven't been excited like taht since Made In Heaven and... THANKS GOD paul is not even trying to sing like Freddie- this I can listen at home, on CDs. Live, with different vocalist- I wanna hear INTERPRETETION- c'mon- even Queen live rarely played their songs exactly as they were on abums!!! And the vocalist is extremely talented, always was, he knows what he's about, he's got his own style- and I like it- I wanna witness this new place where they want to take those songs. Just like they did with WWRY at Songwriters Hall of Fame- this was new and exciting. Now- I want more, much more...
Another one here.
He did it his way (it'd be suicidal to try to copy Freddie), and IMO he rocked. As I wrote somewhere else here - back to the Queen rock times.

I enjoyed that performance. I found Will Youngs version of WATC ... well, irratating. Also I loved the "time, after time" bit by Rodgers during WATC.

'His own take' is obviously never going to be as good as when Freddie sings it but who's expecting that? His vocals are good (don't deny it you negative wasters!) and he's a great frontman. Nuff said. Can't wait for the tour and fuck all the rest of you if you don't like it!!! Mnah!!!
..sorry bout that..:P
:)
No, no, I agree with you, darling! I have no idea why people HATE Brian and Roger for going on tour now...
I don't know which I'm more excited about:
the tour itself, or the fact that there is a completely positive thread about Paul?
Oh, I guess it would be the tour!!!
A small piece of me is actually worried they won't play enough Paul-related songs.
I think on the TV performance he came over as a bit of a try-hard... trying to show he was really "feeling the music, man". Hopefully he'll be more releaxed for the tour.
