Please list your favorite to least favorite Queen album. Yes, they are all good, and even my least favorite Queen album is better than every other bands best album. Maybe tell us why your top choice is your favorite, and why you chose what you did as your least favorite. |

in order of liking: 1) (most favourite) A Day At The Races - no mediocre songs on this (not even "Drowse"), Freddie's voice and songwriting in unbelievable prime (The Millionaire Waltz, Somebody To Love, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy - my favourite, You Take My Breath Away), pomp/glam rock at its best 2) A Night At The Opera 3) The Works (Radio Ga Ga is another favourite of mine, their best "pop" album) 4) Innuendo 5) A Kind Of Magic 6) News Of The World (I absolutely love WATC) 7) Queen II 8) Queen (I LOVE My Fairy King) 9) Jazz 10) Flash Gordon (though I LOVE Flash!) 11) Sheer Heart Attack 12) The Game 13) The Miracle 14) my least favourite - Hot Space (its not really a bad album, some good tracks here - like Action This Day, Las Palabras De Amore, Back Chat - but for Queen the songwriting is very average - no potential hits except "Under Pressure" which, by the way, seems like a stranger on this funk-album!) Well, about Made In Heaven - I guess its slightly better than Hot Space for me (Heaven For Everyone is superb, I also like A Winters Tale and My Life Has Been Saved, the rest however is very mediocre, Freddies version of TMLWKY is plain bad) |

Lord a'mighty, this is going to change every five minutes or so, I can't give you a reliable list! Ah well, here's the standings as they are now. I'm going to include only albums made while Freddie was still alive, and no Flash Gordon - that was made with a distinct purpose and can't be judged against albums made purely for music. 1) News of the World Symmetry is regarded by the geometric-minded as what makes something beautiful. That certainly applies to music, and I've never heard a more symmetric album than NOTW. Everything is in a perfect balance - there are no infinite guitar solos, no mixing overloads, and only just the right amount of vocal harmonies. Based purely on listening pleasure, not on technical precision or stickin' it to da man, I think this is the closest anyone's ever come to a perfect album. 2) The Miracle 3) Sheer Heart Attack 4) Hot Space 5) Innuendo 6) The Game 7) The Works 8) A Kind of Magic 9) Jazz 10) ANATO 11) ADATR 12) Queen II 13) Queen What do you expect? It's the first damn album. They're still a bunch of kids who need to eat and are still trying to figure out what the hell they are doing. It's not a bad album, it's just kind of lost. |

1. The Works (only hits, hits, hits!) 2. A Night At The Opera (Bo.Rap!) 3. The Game (I love this new Queen sound) 4. A Day At The Races (together with One Vision, is TYMD the best cd-opener) 5. The Miracle (the Miracle, I Want It All, Breakthru, Invincible Man and Was IT All Worth it are awesome! .. but it also has tracks like My Baby Does Me that are só terrible, no words for it) 6. Jazz (some of Queens best 'feel good' songs; FBG, DSMN, BR) 7. Queen (I love Keep Yourself Alive, Liar and Doin Alright .. but I don't really care about the rest) 8. News of the World (some really ass kicking tracks like WWRY, WATC and Spread Your Wings .. wonderfull cd!) 9. Innuendo (this cd has the best Queen track ever; Innuendo and of course TSMGO is also awesome.. but is also has too much songs that aren't realy Queeny like Ride The Wild Wind) 10. A Kind of Magic (One Vision, AKoM, FWBF and WWTLF are wonderfull .. Pain is so Close and Gimme The Prize and Don't Lose Your Head are painfull) 11. Made In Heaven (some wonderfull tracks like Heaven For Everyone .. but it's a little too emotional for listening all the time, and it's just not new.. but it has some great stuff!) 12. Hot Space (well .. I kinda like Action, UP and Staying Power .. it's something totally different and it show that the guys had some courage) 13. Queen II (hmm .. not many favo songs, except for tracks 9 and 11!) 14. Flash Gordon (Flash Theme and Hero kick ass .. all the other ones aren't really listenable) 15. Sheer Heart Attack (except for Killer Queen and Now I'm Here .. not many favo songs. In The Lap of the Gods only works live IMHO. Although Lily and She Makes Me are also very beautifull) |

Flash gets very little credit, but it's not really a proper Queen album. It works very well as a score to an over the top bombastic cheesy sci-fi serial. You can't really compare it to an album. With that in mind. As a clarification I find: songwriters: Freddie - Extremes. The best of the best (Bo rhap, Black Queen) and the worst of the worst (Body Language) Brian - Most consistently good, his worst trait is his predictability at times Roger- NOt a big fan of his queen written stuff, usually filler John - the worst of the writers, cheesy writer overall, some good stuff though (Spread Your Wings, Misfire) Tied for first: 1. Innuendo - Really, it's like a greatest hits album compilation of their entire career in one album. We have epic numbers in Inuendo, power ballads in the Show Must Go On, poppy numbers in Days of Our Lives and Slightly Mad, metal numbers in Hitman and rock and roll with Headlong, Ride the Wild Wind, etc. Best Tracks: Innuendo, Show Must Go On, All Gods People Worst Tracks: Delilah (I don't hate it like some do, in fact I find it funny sometimes, but it still gets skipped a bit) 1. Queen II - The most epic album I've heard...the whole black side is an album of its own. Best Tracks: White Queen, Black Queen Worst Tracks: Eh...Loser in the End (if I had to pick a track to erase simply because it doesn't fit) The rest: 3. News of the World - The Innuendo of it's time, a good amalgam of what queen had been about the first decade. Best: It's Late, Spread Your Wings, All Dead Worst: Get Down make Love (again just to pick one) 4. ANATO - The Most ambitious album with all sorts of experimental sounds Best: Bo rhap, Prophets, Love of My Life Worst: Good Company 5. Sheer Heart Attack - The first defining album of Queen introducing pop to their rock and epicness Best: Both Lap of the Gods, Stone Cold, Lily, brighton, now I'm here Worst: (hardest yet to be honest...if I absolutely HAD to pick one? Flick of the Wrist but I love it) 6. ADATR - I like it but it really is a continuation of ANATO and lesser. Some really good songs and some filler Best: Millionaire, Somebody to Love, Teo Toriatte Worst: Good Old Fashioned, Drowse 7. Queen - A BOLD first album, not as coheseive as later efforts and that's the only reason it is slightly down. I might be alone, but I am NOT a big fan of Son & Daughter at all. Great King Rat though and Doing All Right are exemplary. Best: Great King Rat, Doing All right, My Fairy King Worst: Son & Daughter 8. Made In Heaven - Queen's most emotionally poignant album. No rockers really is the only downside. Born To Love You is really a pop rocker, MIH itself is the closest we get but it's still more of a power ballad. Best: Mother Love, Let Me Live, Winter's Tale Worst: My Life Has Been Saved (toooo poppy) 9. The Miracle - I am surprised that this album is so low, cause I do really love it. I think it was definitely a regrouping of sorts from the 80s less than stellar efforts. It's a little disjointed but a good solid effort. Some great songs, Was It All Worth It, was a HUGE step back in the right direction. Best: Was It All Worth It, Miracle, I Want It All, breakthru Worst: Rain Must Fall is ok, Scandal, eh... 10. Jazz - Another album I'm surprised is so low only because I staunchly defend it. Many tell me how much filler is on this album, but there is NOT a song I dislike on the whole thing which tells me something. Usually I can find 2 songs I skip but not here. (Maybe Fun It sometimes) Best: Dont Stop Me Now, Dead On Time Worst: Fun It 11. The Game - The first synth album. I don't care about synths, but Roger's worst album. His drumming is sooo mediocre in this album. There's just nothing special, barely a fill, it's just completely straight forward. Some great moments, some filler Best: Save Me, Sail away, Don't Try Suicide, Dragon Attack Worst: Coming Soon 12. A Kind of Magic - It seems like they are mailing it in with |

Thanks for posting your replies guys to this thread. So far, one thing really suprises me the most.....how high Queen 2 is ranking. I, personally like Queen 1 , much better than Queen 2. On Queen 1, I think Liar, Doin Alright, The Night Comes Down, Keep Yourself Alive, Jesus and Son and Daughter are fantastic....and I think Great King Rat and My Fairy King are good. On Queen 2 however.....Only a few songs stand out for me: Father to Son, Nevermore, The March of the Black Queen....and (get this)....The Loser in The end. While The Loser in the End doesn't fit...I think its grossly underated, and c'mon...the best song on the cd very well have have been "Nevermore"...had it not been a measley 1:20 seconds. I post my complete list of my fav's to least fav's in a little bit. I love reading your choices....there's no right or wrong answers, hell, its all Queen, so it's good no matter how you choose. |

To all those people who don't like Queen II. I suggest you go and give it another try. It’s the sort of album that grows on you. If you’re more into the pop side of Queen, then it will take some getting use to, to really appreciate Queen II. my favorites change sometimes but from best to worst. 1) queen 2 (i love this one). 2) a night at the opera (a masterpiece.) 3.) sheer heart attack (flawless, perfect rock album, classics are everywhere). 4.) a day at the races, (love every song, loverboy rules) 5.) queen (queen's first LP is rocking, heaviest album, i love it) 6.) news of the world, (again every song is great, no filler here) 7.) jazz, (queen at their most fun, 'entertain you' and dreamer's ball is probably my favorites, very underated album). 8.) the game (great album, the first side is perfect). 9.)innuendo (could easly be higher on my list, vintage queen returns, could have been released in the late 70's.) 10.) made in heaven, (a winter's tale is beautiful, as is the rest of the album) 11.) a kind of magic/the works, (these two albums to me are almost the same, can't choose which is better, i love them both, 'magic' has a good fun feel to it. 12.) the miricle (fun album, not vintage queen by any means, but still good.) 13.) hot space, (yes, the hated HS, i actually like it, back chat, staying power, action, and under pressure are great, and for some reason i love cool cat, i love freds voice on that one.) 14.) flash, (i like in spots but to many special effects.) i should add barcelona. this freddie masterpiece is among my favorite albums of all time, yes that includes queen's best, along with queen2 and the others. |

Hmmm.... I would bet money that I, along with several of you here, would be in a group of 500 people who have played more Queen than anyone. (Today, and I am just talking about today, I have listened to the whole "A Day at The Races") , and cd 1, of Greatest Hits 1&2......News Of The World is already in my car for my morning drive to the gym to workout. I am 26, I seriously was a Queen fan since age 3, when "Crazy Little Thing" was my favorite video on MTV as a toddler. They are my favorite. Brian May is 50% of the reason why I play guitar, Freddie is 50% of the reason I play piano.....unfortunetly, I can't sing a note. All of this Queen love I have.....and honestly, Queen 2, the album......may be my least favorite Queen album. Like one person said above...its so weird how we all have the same band on our mind....but like different stuff. |

Only counting actual albums here so that eliminates live albums, greatest hits and Flash Gordon because it only has two songs on it that aren't instrumentals. 14. A Kind Of Magic: Never really liked it as a whole, though there are some good songs like One Vision, Friends Will Be Friends, Who Wants To Live Forever, and Princes Of The Universe. Sorry if this irritates some fans but I hate A Kind Of Magic the song - total crap. 13. Hot Space: Although I really like Staying Power (which is incredible live ex. Milton Keynes), Under Pressure and Life Is Real. Las Palabras de Amor is also good and I would've liked to have heard Freddie sing this live. The rest of the album isn't very good. 12. Jazz: I like this album with the exception of Leaving Home Ain't Easy and the worst Queen album song opener Mustapha. Fat Bottomed Girls, Let Me Entertain You, Bicylce Race, and Don't Stop Me Now all rule. Fun It is alright, though I liked hearing Freddie and Roger trading vocals. 11. Made In Heaven: If it were for sentimental purposes, this album would be near the top. However it consists of some songs that weren't Queen songs put onto an album of Queen (I Was Born To Love You, Made In Heaven, Too Much Love Will Kill You and Heaven For Everyone although the last two are two of my all time favorites. Let Me Live and Mother Love are great. You Don't Fool Me is incredibly bad for a single. 10. Queen: Nice debut but some albums were better. Liar, Keep Yourself Alive, Great King Rat, and My Fairy King are the best songs on Queen. Jesus is okay but bad for a Freddie song (then again he did write Funny How Love Is). Father To Son is okay and the rest is sub-par. 9. Sheer Heart Attack: It is a good album but doesn't flow real well. It goes from the heavy Stone Cold Crazy right into a ballad, Dear Friends. IMO, Stone Cold Crazy should've ended the album. Brighton Rock is okay but would've preferred an actual song when you can hear Brian's solo at virtually every gig he plays at. Killer Queen, Flick Of The Wrist, Lilly Of The Valley, and Stone Cold Crazy are the best. Now I'm Here isn't great though it's better live. 8. The Miracle: I would've loved to hear the singles from this album live and it's one of my favorites but the other seven are better. Breakthru, I Want It All, and Scandal are my top three faves from this one. My Baby Does Me is terrible. and the rest is not bad. Chinese Torture is a weird instrumental but I like it. 7. News Of The World: Good album but WWRY/WATC should've closed the album not opened it. Spread Your Wings and It's Late are my favorites along with WWRY and WATC. Brian's two songs are two of his best on any Queen album. All Dead, All Dead is beautiful although I hear it's about a cat or something. Get Down Make Love is dumb as is Fight From The Inside. 6. Queen II: Some say this is the best of all time. Like The Game this one could be top three depending on my mood. The March Of the Black Queen was the Bohemian Rhapsody of it's time - awesome song. Whie Queen is a touching ballad. Seven Seas Of Rhye, Ogre Battle, and Nevermore are good. I never really liked Father To Son, Some Day One Day, or Funny How Love Is. Actually take that back. Father To Son is good as well. 5. A Day At The Races: Again I Don't agree with those who say this is the best. My faves are Teo Torriatte, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, Somebody To Love, and You Take My Breath Away. Long away is good as are White Man and The Millionaire Waltz. Drowse and You And I are kinda dull compared to the rest. Great Album nonetheless. 4. The Game: Depending on my mood this one could be number one or at least in the top three. Crazy Little Thing Called Love is awesome as are Save Me, Play The Game, Need Your Lovin' Tonight, and Dragon Attack. Don't Try Suicide is terrible. Sail Away Sweet Sister is tied with Long Away and '39 for my favorite songs that Brian sings. Another One Bites The Dust is good but not the best. Overall the album i |

From worst to best albums (Songs are from best to worst): * marked songs feature in top 35 of best Queen songs. 14. Made In Heaven, not bad but it's not a 'real' Queen album IMO. A few great songs though. Songs from best to worst: Too Much Love Will Kill You, Made In Heaven, Mother Love, A Winters Tale, Let Me Live, Heaven For Everyone, I Was Born To Love You, It's A Beautiful Day Reprise, You Don't Fool Me, It's A Beautiful Day, My Life Has Been Saved. 13. 1 News of the world (very balanced, dramatic but not overloaded) 1 Queen II (...sends shivers down my spine!) 3 Sheer Heart Attack (a few gems – SCC, LOTV, KQ... – and some good songs) 3 A Night at the Opera (not overall perfect ... but almost) 5 The Game (has its very own charm) 6 Queen (thrilling, yet far from perfect) 7 Innuendo 8 A Day at the Races 9 Jazz (DSMN is one of my all time favourites, but the rest ... not) 10 Hot Space (quite some good little songs there, some quite boring ones) 11 The Works (overall mediocre, no highlight) 11 The Miracle (can't get into it) 11 A Kind of Magic (not bad, but ...) I was a great fan from 1978 to 1981, then there came Hot Space ... I just turned back to queen recently – what a delight to hear all that beautiful music again. Maybe I have to listen to the 80's albums more often. |

My favourite album is Queen II, what a masterpiece, it is so superb!!!!!!!!! |
gihona 31.08.2005 15:40 |
i never thought i will see albums like The Works, The Miracle and A kind of Magic in Queen's top 5, it is pretty surprising to me that fans will prefer these stuff over almost anything recorded by the boys during the 70's. not that these are bad albums, it's just that the early works are a lot better, in my opnion anyway. the only post 70's album i'll put in my top 5 is Innuendo, a great work of art. i think my final list is: 1. A Night At The Opera 2. A Day At The Races 3. Queen II 4.Innuendo 5. changes every day - but just for the hell of it lets say... News Of The World, Sheer Heart Attack, Jazz and The Game all share this sopt :-) ANATO is not only my Queen fav, it's one of my all time favorites, i don't think i will ever get enough of it. a masterpiece. on a second thought, that goes for ADATR as well. |

Innuendo Queen 1 A Night At The Opera The Miracle The Works Jazz News Of the World Sheer Heart Attack The Game A Kind Of Magic Queen 2 A Day At The Races Hot Space Made In Heaven Flash Gordon and for the second part of the question: Innuendo b/c it shows Queen's talents: Show Must Go ON is powerful as it Innuendo....good heavy rock songs too like Headlong and Hitman...Ride The Wild Wind and I'm Going Slightly Mad are brilliant....only weakness is Delilah and All God's People Queen 1 is out there too b/c it's raw, shows their innocence, is heavy, shows their creativity and where they have come from...some of those melodies were being refined in their heads for years Made In Heaven is close to the bottom because it's not a complete new album....only some songs are new and others are re-hashed b-sides or Freddie solo stuff...no true Queen album feel as there were no Heavy songs, just sadness...best track by far is Mother Love Hot Space was just weak all round for Queen standards except Under Pressure.....Las Palabras and Dancer were okay.... |

I guess with Hot Space you either love it or you hate it. I love it. Im not sure if its my favourite album but probably my list would go something like this - Hot Space Queen Jazz Innuendo Queen 2 Sheer Heart Attack Made in Heaven News of the World Night at the Opera The Miracle The Game Day at the Races The Works A Kind of Magic A kind of magic had some good hits but the album itself was a pile of uninspired trash. In my opinion there only bad album. Everything else is brilliant. |

I've been shocked with some of these replies! I have a much different taste in Queen than most of you, but I guess we all have different taste in music in general. Here is my list: 1. A Night At The Opera (Best album of all time)10/10 2. Queen II (Absolutely perfect, but falls a millimeter short of ANATO) 9.9/10 3. Sheer Heart Attack (Very underrated. This is just a wonderfull album by Queen)9.6/10 4. The Game (Another underrated album. This one doesnt have a weak track. I love it because it includes all of Queen's different types of music)9.5/10 5. Jazz (Yet again, very underrated. Only a few weak tracks. Alot of very strong tracks here. Another amazing album)9.3/10 6. A Day At The Races (Beatifull melodies all the way through here. The ''least'' rock album for Queen, but some very great tunes)9/10 7. Queen (Amazing debut album here. Follow's greatly and has some superb tracks)8.8/10 8. News Of The World (Very good album by Queen, but it's the weakest of the 70's. It's a real rocking album, but it just doesnt compare to the earlier 70's albums. Still great though)8.5/10 9. The Miracle (Best album of the 80's by a long shot excluding The Game of course ;). Has some excellent tracks all the way through.)8.3/10 10. The Works (Amazing follow up to one of the worst Queen albums. I find it doesnt even have 1 bad track. Good 80's album from Queen)8/10 11. A Kind Of Magic (Another solid album. Not as great as the rest, but still good. I dont see a single weak track on this one eather)7.8/10 12. Made In Heaven (Even if this is so far down the list, it's still very good. Doesnt really feature a rocker like in most Queen albums. It's more depressing because this was released after Freddie died. Still good nonetheless)7.5/10 13. Hot Space (Bizzare album. This is because they COMPLETELY changed the style of music from Rock N' Roll to disco pop. Personally not a big fan of pop at all. Still, this albums has 4 or 5 really good tracks and grows on you in a while. Good Queen title, but no good enough)7.3/10 14. Innuendo (Most overrated album by far. I find this album very good, but not as good as people say it is. I just cant get into it. A few good tracks here and there, but nothing special.)7/10 |

Hi! Just charted the so far 35 complete lists in this thread. I left out "Flash" because few lists mention it. In 2 or 3 cases, one album was missing. I counted it as the least one. There are 14 albums, so I gave 14 points to the top one, 1 point to the last one. Here's the results: 1 ANATO 389 points, Ø ranking 2.9 2 Innuendo 352, 3.9 3 Queen II 334, 4.5 4 SHA 332, 4.5 5 ADATR 295, 5.6 6 NOTW 274, 6.2 7 Queen 262, 6.5 8 Miracle 253, 6.8 9 Game 245, 7.0 10 Jazz 239, 7.2 11 Works 227, 7.5 12 Made in Heaven 170, 9.1 13 AKOM 167, 9.2 14 Hot Space 141, 10.0 No big surprises, I think. It's the first damn album. They're still a bunch of kids who need to eat and are still trying to figure out what the hell they are doing. It's not a bad album, it's just kind of lost.1. they weren't a 'bunch of kids' Freddie was coming up 27 years old. 2. it was recorded in studio 'downtime' and i think this makes it raw, interesting and a great record - most bands' first outings are very interesting - Oasis 'def maybe' is another similar 'rough diamond' - but i suppose if you can put HOT SPACE at 4 in your list then that explains the antipathy towards I & II....still it makes the world more interesting that we all like/dislike different things i love QUEEN - it's a great debut |

it's wierd hearing brians comments on queen's first album, saying "i think it's strange how many queen fans say our debut is still their favorite, we were still searching for our musical voice" in a way i know what he's saying, they didn't develope their signature sound yet, but shown hints of it. In all i agree with "brenski" queen was a raw and heavy sound, yea their sound was still developing, but i still think it's one of their best, usually i say their first 8 were queen's prime (especially the first 6). |

Brian does nothin' amazing guitar-wise on ADATR. "Tie your Mother Down" is the only decent guitar driven song. They would get it right the next time with their greatest album "News of the World"! |

1. A Night at the Opera Without a doubt the greatest album ever created. Death on Two Legs and it's incredible intro and biting lyrics. Lazing on a Sunday Afteroon with it's fun melody and awesome May solo at the end. I'm in Love With My Car, Roger's absolute best-sung song. You're My Best Friend, a classic Queen pop/rock hit that you just can't help but sing along to. '39, Brian's greatest work. Sweet Lady, amazing that this great rocker is the album's weakest song. Seaside Rendezvous, Freddie's best attempt at capturing times' long past. And then Side Two.....unbelivable. The Prophet's Song, pure prog rock bliss. Love of My Life, beautiful song, tops among any rock ballad. Good Company, fun little number that compliments the album well. And then of couse, Bohemian Rhapsody, the finest piece of music ever written by man, the greatest 5 minutes and 55 seconds music has ever seen. And they finish by making a national anthem, usually a corny piece of forced nationalism, sound amazing. Just an incredible album in every way. My rating: Death on Two Legs (dedicated to...) - 10/10 Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon - 10/10 I'm in Love With My Car - 10/10 You're My Best Friend - 10/10 '39 - 10/10 Sweet Lady - 9/10 Seaside Rendezvous - 9/10 The Prophet's Song - 10/10 Love of My Life - 10/10 Good Company - 9/10 Bohemian Rhapsody - 10/10 God Save the Queen - 10/10 117/120 97.5% 2.
