Hi guys i've just dusted off my greatest flix2 video and played it 4 the first time in ages i wanted to see the innuendo videos and i saw them and wondered about a couple of things. The start of innuendo there's a building with big arch windows and the same building features in headlong at the start, are these studios? i'm just curious to know. I really like the headlong video it looks like freddie's having a ball on it and he still looks good even though he must have felt like f****n shit, also a question on this wasn't this video shot in november 90 and not april 91 as stated in gf2 booklet, the reason i'm saying this is because i had a christmas issue of the fan club magazine and in there was a letter written by either freddie or brian and it states that they had just finished filming the video to headlong and it would make sense that this was the case because the appearance of freddie in "headlong" to "i'm going slightly mad" is very different and i think they have the date wrong. |
inu-liger 16.02.2005 08:21 |
That is indeed a studio. I think it was called Metropolis Studios or something. And they actually filmed the main parts of Headlong in Nov. 1990. Brian filmed additional balcony parts in April 1991, so the Queen Fan Club is actually right on both counts. |

I love the Headlong video. It's one of my favorites. Unfortunately my greatest flix II video is pretty tatty now. My dad bought it when it first came out for me. You can only just see the picture now. I can't wait till the release of GVHIII if that is going to be released. |
brian_may_wannabe 16.02.2005 10:15 |
I haven't seen it. Hope it come on the Greatest Video Hits III DVD if and when it is released. |

Nice yellow sweatshirt. :-) But then I have a screensaver of him in a blue shirt from the same video. He didn't look good. I have a theory: Perhaps bits of Freddie footage are from the 2 shootings - late 90 and early 91. That might explain why he looked worse in the "blue shirt" shots. I hate being this morbid. :-( |
john bodega 16.02.2005 10:52 |
Was there a "One Vision" style making of with Headlong? I have a Queen documentary where they play Headlong footage that was not in the filmclip (for the morbid, it's just the guys standing around and Freddie looking very tired). |

gonna show my ignorance now...but - wasn't part of the Headlong vid filmed onboard the Queen Mary ? |

i find the headlong vid difficult to watch due to Freddie's health, slightly mad was different black & white, in a costume, these are days is easier again probably down to the black & white, but i have to say Freddie in his blue shirt he appears a little heathlier ("playing" the solo on that acoustic guitar) compared to band scene in the yellow jumper, i just dont find it easy viewing he was very brave |
Martin Packer 17.02.2005 03:51 |
Whisperer and maxpower, I concede these things are a matter of personal opinion. I guess: 1) I like the yellow jumper for its own sake. 2) Freddie was doing a little dance when in the yellow jumper - albeit not moving very far. 3) My downer on the blue shirt is that if you have it static on your screen - in my case as a screensaver - you inspect the picture more closely than you perhaps should. All in all I think we can agree that Freddie carried the whole last few years of his life extremely nobly, and the band must've been incredibly supportive. The subterfuge is in interesting, but I really wouldn't want to eg trouble Brian looking for details. As has been said before with 20-20 hindsight a lot of it is plain to see (the subterfuge, that is). But it wasn't 100% successful as, even in the Miracle timeframe, we all knew something was different. |

Hey guys. You're not right. There were two footages of the Headlong video. The first filming was in november 1990 in Montreux, they were recording in the studio and in the same time they filmed the video....Freddie was in the blue shirt.. The second part of the video was filmed in april 1991 in London, Freddie was in yellow shirt... That's correct information. |
nino trovato 18.02.2005 08:24 |
Yes Brenda it was slated for November 23, 1990. I remember seeing an outtake or two and noticed the slate with the date on it. Exactly one year later he was gone. |

Headlong was released as a single in the US in January or February 1991. |
deleted user 18.02.2005 08:42 |
Yeah, but it wasn't released in UK until May 1991 though was it. Maybe they wern't going to do a video for the American single if you get what i meen. |
Daveboy35 18.02.2005 08:50 |
It was released in usa in feb 91 and the video was already completed by then as it was filmed in november90 the april91 footage is with brian's footage on the stairs adding some extra guitar which i haven't heard on any other version incidentally, and then featured firstly on greatest flix 2 in oct 91 and i for one could not see freddie looking terrible in "i'm going slightly mad" and then about 2 months later looking slightly better in headlong, the timescale doesn't tally. |
deleted user 18.02.2005 08:59 |
Thats nonsense, Joe ... of course they had to have a video for the US release (especially since you must have a video in the USA to have any chances to make it into the charts!). I think it was recorded in late 1990 or January 1991 along with the making of the Innuendo video. Since both videos have the same opening shot (from the Metropolis music studios in London), it is a clear hint that they were made at the same time. Another hint is that Freddie still had his full beard in the video (a thing he didn't have by the time "Im Going Slightly Mad" was made.) And remember: they also did the Video for "Days of our lives" especially for the us release in mid 1991, long before they finally released it in the UK, it also says in the booklet to "Classic Queen" (the US Greatest Hits 2-counterpart): it was released in the US on January 15th together with a promo film shot at Metropolis studios in London. It also says in the official Queen biography "Queen: As It Began" by Jacky Gunn and Jim Jenkins, that Queen decided to release Headlong as the first single in the US and went to Metropolis studios around Christmas 1990 for two days to shoot the video. |

Would it be too much to ask, does anyone have a link to view this video online, or could post it? I've seen it once, in Holland, and have only seem glimpses since then, and have been very interested in viewing it again since that time... any help is appreciated. Thanks gang. |

lyricalassasin77 18.02.2005 17:13 |
Not one of my favorites either song nor video. I think even if Freddie was healthy and well, the whole premise for the video seemed to be hastily put together just to have a video...... |
Scott_Mercury 18.02.2005 17:56 |
Headlong is not on the US GH2. |
deleted user 18.02.2005 18:19 |
Of course it is ... Headlong is track 15 on Classic Queen (the American version of Greatest Hits 2 from 1992)... see for yourself link |
freddie4ever92 18.02.2005 18:31 |
I have GVH2 and headlong isn't on mine. How can I see it ? Is it one of the hidden ones? Please help as I would like to see it! |
deleted user 18.02.2005 18:39 |
Well you are confusing Greatest Video Hits 2 (on DVD) from 2003 with the VHS video and music album "Classic Queen" from 1992 (which was the American version of Greatest Hits 2 and Greatest Flix 2 / the video from 1991). So buy the VHS video "Classic Queen" from 1992 if you are living in the US (its probably almost out of print now) or the VHS video Greatest Flix 2 from 1991 if you live in Europe. The DVD Greatest video hits 2 (which you have) only contains their videos from the 1980s. |

Oh,ok. Thanx !!! :-) |
Freddie-B 19.02.2005 06:41 |
I think he looks worse in the yellow jumper, if worse is an appropriate term. It's a good video though, shows them having fun at least, which I don't think is forced at all. Slightly Mad is a million times harder to watch, in my opinon. |
Peta 21.02.2005 14:43 |
I think Headlong video is one of the best.... They are very funny and look happily, especially Brian! He has a funny t-shirt too. I like how he cliks with the pen the best. |
flash00. 21.02.2005 19:01 |
i read somewhere he was really going for it strutting wise to prove to the press etc that he was fine, brian said the pain he was in was incredible but he still went for it!!! its the last vid really of our freddie really strutting his ass off.. great vid |
Lester Burnham 21.02.2005 19:54 |
To dispell the timeframe: I'm Going Slightly Mad was filmed in February 1991, and Days Of Our Lives in May 1991. For both of those shoots, Freddie didn't have facial hair, and his movement had been seriously cut back due to the pain he was in. For the Headlong video, with both the yellow sweatshirt and the blue vest, Freddie has facial hair. Thus, we can gather two scenarios from this: that the video was filmed on two separate days in November 1990, or that Freddie shaved for Slightly Mad and Days Of Our Lives, but grew back the facial hair for the April 1991 shoot of Headlong. The latter seems slightly implausible, so I'll go with the oft-repeated idea that Brian filmed the additional guitar scenes in April 1991, but that the bulk of the video was filmed in November 1990. |
Ander Vørschört 28.02.2005 20:40 |
Under the freddie section in the picture archive of Aug. 1991 and he had facial hair. BUT, from a VH1 special i had watched, Jim Hutton said it was again shaved off in Aug. Mary Austin said he liked it shaved because it made him look healthier and less rugged. |

Innuendo - was filmed in the spring of 1989 and it actually created a demo and recorded it in November 1990 Im Going Slightly Mad - February 15, 1991 was made Headlong - ROTATION 23 November 1990 until February 1991, Freddie had a yellow sweater Delilah - filmed in mid-1989, but allegedly filming dated to December 1990 the show must go on - was filmed the same time as Headlong These Are the Days of Our Lives - May 30, 1991 was made |

Has anyone ever come up with a definitive timescale of when the music videos for Innuendo was filmed...Did Freddie ever have a beard in 1991... |
freddie1mercury 24.03.2012 11:17 |
Headlong he began filming November 23, 1990 and Freddie in yellow sweater was in January or February 1991 (I said in January 1991 by Queen Pedia pages) But the scene with a recording studio that originated in late September 1990 |
