My God, this man had a beautiful voice. Talk about some singing/songwriting talent. Always loved his stuff, but I bought "Enjoy Every Sandwich," the tribute album, and I couldn't help but think that it didn't do him justice. Certainly I recommend it to any diehard Zevon fan, but I don't think an album of covers is the right tribute to a soul like this. This is the man who brought us the classic album "Exciteable Boy," dammit!
I suppose what I'm trying to say is, let's talk about Warren Zevon. Such a tragic loss. He was one of a kind.
Warren Zevon is great.I think "Carmelita" is one of the best songs ever. It's such a shame he was so overlooked. He was a brilliant songwriter and had a great rock and roll voice.Other faves of mine:
hasten down the wind
roland the headless thompson gunner
disorder in the house
play it all night long
the french inhaler
Zevon is awesome. A very tragic loss when he died. :(
Enjoy Every Sandwich is good but I do agree Mandy that it doesn't do him enough justice. Any fave covers though?
I love Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner, Excitable Boy, A Certain Girl, Hasten Down the Wind, Sentimental Hygiene, and loads more! I have that documentary on his final cd taped.
-Poor Poor Pitiful Me
-Accidentally Like a Martyr
-Pretty much every song on EB (Roland, of course)
-Boom Boom Mancini
-Heartache
-Dirty Life and Times
All of the above are masterpieces.
And the Hindu Love Gods were awesome! Their album is a must-have for any Zevon or REM fan.
