Next week (February 23rd) the American president will honour my city with his visit. I live in the most densely populated part of the country, right in the middle of the Rhein Main area. Probably it was the idea that the visit of the head of a friendly nation should cause the biggest possible damage.
- all highways in the area will be closed for most of the day, keeping thousands and thousands of people from driving to work.
- all bridges will be closed keeping a big part of the city isolated, it's not even allowed to walk across the bridges.
- no car is allowed on the streets of the inner city, also no trash cans or any other object - not to mention people!
- people living in the the centre MIGHT be allowed to leave their home but they should be prepared to be controlled at each corner. In the top security sectors people will be evacuated!!
- all schools will be closed because it's unlikely that enough teachers will make it to the schools.
- all these security measures are the brain work of American CIA and FBI people
Most people here think the president should stay where he is.
Wow! He doesn't get that much attention here! Sure there are extreme security measures but we don't close down bridges or highways. I know F-16 fighter jets fly next to Air Force One and have orders to shoot anything down that comes near it, but as far as closing down schools, bridges, sidewalks, etc....it wouldn't happen here. Our children need to be in school and our people need to be at work so they can pay their bills. The President should not keep anyone from work or school.
He should not visit your town if it means keeping your citizens on lock down. I'm sure there are issues here on our own soil he can deal with and leave your town alone.
Shouldn't he be working and trying to figure out a way (most likely impossible) on how to save social security and health care instead of making a pathetic attempt to gain international popularity and nearly halt a normal day and put restrictions on citizens due to his visit.

Which one Jenna or Barbara?
Personally I'd pick Jenna, she seems more like a much entertaining drinking buddy party gal, as well as a potential make-out party friend.

That's a pretty high level of security, I'd say! Evacuating people from their homes? I'd get pretty upset if it was me. Fortunately it isn't.
Why is he coming to visit if none of the inhabitants are allowed anywhere near the areas he'll put foot on?
am sure because he is so popular esp.(just take TQ's response here as an example) in europe
that they are going above and beyond...
they actually do close roads for a bit while any President is travelling on it..
God knows Clinton came here enough and 85/75 is right outside my window--and we would watch the cops on motorcycles span out to close all the lanes off... then comes the 150 vehicle motorcade..
Clinton was here and the Queen of England and the Pope. The people, however, were never treated like a bunch of potential terrorists. I think we understand the necessity of security as much as anybody else and sure we would not complain about some restrictions but this is paranoia and nobody understands why he even bothers to come.
I'm sorry he's coming. This unneccesary extravagence just shows how isolated he is from the real world. God forbid he meet real people with real opinions. It would seem he doesn't feel much safer over here. A while ago there was an anti-abortion rally outside the White House and he phoned in support. C'mon! They were right outside! So the protective barrier around him still stands here. Again I apologize he's coming.
