The most obvious answer would be Freddie's death. There's no doubt that it was more than expected that John would take part on the 'Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert' and also finishing recording 'Made In Heaven'. By then it seemed like those could well be the closing chapters in Queen history. However John took part on the recording of the 'No One But You' single, and he was present at the Bejart Ballet performance in 1997 of 'The Show Must Go On' along with Elton John. So what could have made John Deacon decide to go into retirement? Part of me feels like the collaboration with 5ive was what made John Deacon decide that the band has done more than enough. |

More of it likely has to do with his receding hairline |
Zander05 14.02.2005 22:17 |
Maybe it was the hairline AND the crappy collaborations. It's like knowing how many licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, the world may never know |
Melancholy Blues 15.02.2005 00:29 |
maybe he just wanted to |

foxxy_moron 15.02.2005 02:16 |
yeah.. plus he was probably too sad about freddie darlin. |
brian_may_wannabe 15.02.2005 07:47 |
Maybe because of Freddie's death, he found it hard to cope and didn't want his fans to see him emotional because of one of his friend's and colleague's death. It was great to see him coming out of retirement for a short time for the No-One But You song and performing with Elton John for Show Must Go On in Paris. Or maybe he just felt like it lol. |

In 1990, John Deacon was recruited aboard Kashoggi's Ship by MI5, MI6, the CIA, the FBI, and Colonel Sanders from Kentucky Fried Chicken to build a new Deaky amp which can withstand any form of terrorist attack upon the Queendom of rock n' roll. Of course, the project takes a lot of time and effort, and requires serious r&r in dimly lit rooms populated mainly by females. |
Fenderek 15.02.2005 08:01 |
I don't think it was Freddie's death- if he wasn't ill IMO it would have happened sooner or later anyway... In few books (mainly THE EARLY YEARS) his wife was mentioned and described as devoted catholic (hence so many kids I guess...)- to the point where she didn't even want a babysitter or any hepl even though they could afford pretty much anything. Now- imagine a person like that at home, the person you love and with whom you are sharing quiet, peaceful life- far from hedonistic one... And than there is the tour- excess, excess and even more excess! Every time they (Queen) nod there is an army of people just waiting to grant them any wish. So imagine the difference between life on tour (especially with Freddie and Roger) and being at home, with wife and so many kids (and no babysitter :) ). It's almost like living two lifes at once- maybe (and that's just my theory)- it was too much for him. Maybe he was tired of this all and decided to commit himself to one thing- and is happily living with his wife, enjoying money he earned. And we can't forget the comment John did after Live Aid when he said that this gig was one of few ocasions when he was proud to be a partof music bussiness. Seems like most of the times he wasn't. Is it surprising than that he decided to retire...? Put those two together (don't like the showbiz thing AND tired of double life) and... I think we can be pretty near... Freddie's death could have made his decission much easier but I don't think was the reason... That's just my opinion... |
Mustapha Ibrahim 15.02.2005 08:03 |
Money pure and simple had enough to keep him going for the rest of his life and has lost his desire for music making. he has gone down in my books |
CamD 15.02.2005 13:55 |
he'll be gutted I'm sure. |

Well I love my job but if I won the lottery and didn't need to do it, I'm dammed sure I'd give it up in a heartbeat. I think we should just let John enjoy his retirement and enjoy his songs and playing on the records he made. My 2d worth, Cheers, Andrew |

It's not a wig! It's the "ETERNAL HAIR"! Long live Brian's hair! As for John... He is rich and old, and he has earned every cent of his fortune, and every moment with his family. |

John Deacon should be admired & respected for the way he has conducted himself. Imagine the strength of character he must have to turn his back on everything for a quiet life with his family. I got two kids and i sometimes think i'd be quite happy to leave them behind and go on tour when they're screaming n stuff. he's got about six hundred of 'em and he just goes with the flow. Whatta guy!!! |

He was always the one who wanted to make music with Queen ... probably more than the other three during the 80s. But when Freddie died he was devastated also because he knew it was the end of queen ... so I guess he would like to make music again, but since he never wanted a solo career there is nothing he can really do nowadays. Its pretty obvious he doesn't want to collaborate with Brian and Roger anymore, because its NOT Queen for him anymore. |

That's just my opinion...well i respect your opinion but i'm not convinced: i think that John retired cos he could not see a future in the band queen without Freddie...that is what many people think after all.So he decided to stop, maybe he also suffered more than Bri and Rog this sad event and he collaborated just for no-one but you and for Elton John (that is a little more obscure, maybe a sort of "hey Queen fans, i'm still here don't worry!") But with Freddie alive John would be on board ;) i think instead that Queen would have changed their "album+mega tour" standard for other musical ways...but this is another subject I respect JOhn's choice, as much as Brian and ROger will to perform. |
the oppositionist 19.02.2005 09:49 |
and the circle comes round AGAIN... Anyways, from what ive heard, John is a dab hand on the stocks and shares, plus he makes money every single time somebody uses one of his songs. and think about it, another one bites the dust is in there.... |
