If you're going to hate it, why go? Why not disappear? If the fans annoy you, why go back on tour? I know someone who was of a similar fame level (in the UK anyway, perhaps not in the States)and they got fed up, and just melted away. If you'll turn up to the opening of an envelope then people feel that they have the right to bother you.
What a bizarre attitude.
mmmm i was suprised with brians attitude as he said the brits is fixed, he did'nt have to go no one forced him, at the begining of the sissor sisters set the camera was on brian and he looked really pissed off,,, i wonder if it was he knew at that point queen wernt gonna win??? and on his sight he thought robbie tried to hard on stage!! "i wonder if brian is starting to see the light with regards to robbie-thinks he's freddie mercury-williams,

i dont want to go to school, but i do. i dont want to drive, but i do (rather, will have to). life isnt perfect...you have to do things that you dont want to do, just because its the right thing. besides, it was probably cheap advertising for them... they're about to go on tour, do lots of interviews and appear everywhere, and fans will want to see you. tricks of the trade...
I know how it feels to be on a TV event, I was in Modena 2003 to see Pavarotti and Friends, among others Brian and Roger.
One Queenzoner already queued at 9 in the morning, others at 12. They stood in the sun at 30 °C for 6 hours until the doors opened. Then we stood 2 hours until the event started. Then we stood packed until 1:00 AM when the show was over. In the (numerous!)commercial breaks there were no videos, the whole area just went black for 10 minutes. It was incredibly exhausting having no water and being unable to move anywhere.
But I don't remember that people complained about it. We all had a good time and the waiting and heat, thirst etc just was part of the event - inevitable. But then - I am a non smoker and miraculously, nobody ever blows smoke into my face, I must be blessed.
1. Brian didn't say Robbie tried too hard.
He said Robbie didn't have to try so hard.
ie. He can easily win the crowd/do a good performance.
2. He didn't say the awards were fixed.
He said they were limited. The "experts" try
to steer the voters in a certain direction
by allowing them to vote on a limited number of acts.
Not "fixed", but not too far from it.
3. He didn't really seem to say he hated the Brits
- though I'm sure he might - he basically didn't like the position he was in.
Seating location, smoke, people annoying him.
After seeing this thread I checked out the related rant from Brian and enjoyed it a LOT! Mainly cause I've been told those very same things by others. My brother being one of them. Very refreshing indeed.
Peace,
Adam.
sometimes i feel that maybe brian and roger just need to back away from the new world.
i mean alot of older people these days are trying so hard to still fit in, i say take what you had and just leave it that way. enjoy what you liked about your age.. because the world isnt just going to change because you said it has to.
sorry, im ranting too!
A good number of people pass negative remarks about Brian's comments about the press, fans asking for photos/autographs, etc.
To be honest, I have to sympathize with him. He doesn't have the luxury of being able to blend in and be unnoticed like the rest of us. He can't be a spectator. Sure, there are times when it is perfectly okay to ask for an autograph or a photo, but NOT when one is having dinner in a restaurant, or, in this instance (at the Brits), while with one of his kids.
THINK PEOPLE - imagine yourself in the 'famous person's shoes' - when would you like to be approached, and when would you not like to be approached? And attitude has a lot to do with it too - are you kind, considerate & respectful, or are you pushy, insensitive or just plain rude?
Think of how YOU would want to be treated. Have some respect people - ya get more flies with honey than with vinegar.
I have to work 55 hours a week to support me and my family. If all I had to do was show up to a few events and sign a few autographs to not have to work so much, I think I'd do it.

That's a pretty defeatist attitude, to say the least. So we should just accept that things are the way they are, and not express our feelings?
Furthermore, why should Brian and Roger be required to automatically adapt to the so-called "new world", as opposed to the "new world" occasionally looking up to people of the past for wisdom? Ever thought of it that way?

Wow, what an ignorant comment to make. If you're any kind of a Queen fan, and you think that's all there is to Brian May's life, then you don't know a thing about him.
