I thought that Gary Cherone (Extreme), did a wonderful job of Love Of My Life (Though I think the guy's a tosser). Very respectful, didn't play with it too much. The people who sound most like Freddie are the guys that sing in the tribute bands I guess. |
the Dust 04.02.2005 05:39 |
yes...like the singer of the cover band "miracle"..have you ever heard him?it's quite similar! |
dave2005 04.02.2005 06:01 |
No-one sounds like Freddie ... It can be seen that the Darkness guys are really influenced by Queen, but still no match ... |
We Are The Champions 04.02.2005 06:09 |
No-one alive or dead ever sounded like Freddie! He has/had the greatest ever voice in rock. His range was phenomenal...even better than Elvis! |
Marilyn Locos 04.02.2005 06:49 |
Everybody can sing like Elvis. Freddie is unique, but he's not the only one. The world is full of great singers, even better ones (I mean the voice) than Freddie. But nobody can't reach on his level (performing, composing...) |
The Fairy King 04.02.2005 07:55 |
psshh...can u sing like Elvis?? Think u never saw a concert of his, or u wouldn't talk that way about him. Elvis had a great voice and of course range. Try and sing songs like My Boy, An American Trilogy, Welcome To My World, My Way etc the way he sang them. The songs weren't his but he made em his own. |
GivenToFly 04.02.2005 08:07 |
Jasper Steverlink (belgian singer) can really sound like Freddie if he studied the songs carefully. I had a coverversion from Killer Queen by Arid (Jasper is the vocalist) and it sound pretty good... |
flash00. 04.02.2005 08:12 |
nobody sings like freddie no one! he was the greatest rock singer ever. |
the Dust 04.02.2005 08:37 |
yes the world is full of great singers..for example..timo kotipelto(Stratovarius),bruce dickinson(iron maiden),fabio lione italian singer of Rhapsody(!!!),sebastian bach(skid row),ronnie james dio..but no one is unique like freddie..because he combine range,sound,expression,power..his voice can be powerful like and heartquake...and sweet like a rose...this is the difference..! |

Marilyn Locos wrote: Everybody can sing like Elvis.Have you any idea how low Elvis could sing? Yes, Freddie had a far better range, but couldn't Elvis sing lower? |
The Fairy King 04.02.2005 13:37 |
i saw Jasper Steverlink live few months ago. he sounds like George Michael. :) quite good singer actually...but he sings boring covers. |
redyfredy01 04.02.2005 15:50 |
I think that the person that sings the song It's Over, that is featured in that Blockbuster commercial doesn't have his voice, but sounds like Freddie as in the depth of his voice, or like the tone. |
Stephan 04.02.2005 16:19 |
James LaBrie sounds like Freddie in some way. Being an opera-studied performer, he is techically more than a dozen levels above Freddie. His new album will be released in six weeks. link |
yamamamia 04.02.2005 16:25 |
I think Gregory Finsley, more than anyone else. Queen For A Day Tribute. Probably the closest to inflections and tone. Sort of a curse and a blessing at once. Media section for a listen. |
MatiasQueen89 05.02.2005 07:06 |
I can sing higher and lower than Elvis, and I'm not even a singer. Elvis was not a great singer, he was just another one. |
frida365 05.02.2005 17:30 |
No-one like FREDDIE! Nobody can copy him... He was too good!!! |

Exactly ! |

Freddie had one of the highest pitched voiced Iv ever heard, The show must go on just shows that. He is brilliant. As for Elvis well he had an incredible voice aswell, an excellent range and power aswell, Elvis originally wanted to be in a gospal harmony group back in the early 50's as a bass singer. |
AllDeadAllDead 05.02.2005 20:25 |
only jeff buckley comes anywhere close. dudes from the scorpians? skid row? barf. please, those guys cant sing worth shit. |
Highlander-666 06.02.2005 08:26 |
Yes ! it's possible to be NOW sound like freddie... if Queen play with George Michael, Elthon Jon, Gary Cherone, Paul Rodgers, Robin Williams,Tom Jons, Pavarotti and Franco de Vita at the same stage... with all this people together we have a ONE Freddie Mercury ! |
hoopdiddydiddy 06.02.2005 16:01 |
I agree that Freddie Mercury was the greatest singer ever. His voice was simply amazing. And not just because of the power or range. That has something to do with it of course, but many people can learn to sing with great power etc, however, listening to Freddie's voice seems to create a special feeling that no other can. He must have had a special way. Like he was sub-human or something. I think Elvis had a similar way. I wouldn't go as far as comparing him to Freddie, but there was definitely something special about Elvis's voice. He also had a knack of creating a feeling. I much prefer Elvis's voice in his earlier songs though. He has more power then. At the back end he tended to do slow dodgy ballads with a low pitch. Just didn't sound the same really (not to me anyway). Ooh, and as for people sounding like Freddie, I don't think that could ever be humanly possible. I can notice an ever so slight similarity with George Michael when I listen to some of the Wham songs. He sounds a little bit like Freddie did in the early part of his career. Only a little bit, mind! |
DontStopHimNow 06.02.2005 18:30 |
Id say George Michael in his wham days you can hear what sounds like a young Freddie. |

I too have seen and heard this guy Gregory Finsley sing and play piano. He's FANtastic! All those musicians with "Queen for a Day" are great check out thier audio and video at link we will we will..... rock u |
mrsmercury91 16.02.2005 20:48 |
I too have been blessed with the magical voice of Gregory Finsley....Never thought that I would hear anyone so close to Freddie, well I was blown away....Never missed a pitch and the best performance I have seen in a really long time. Cheerio ! :) link |

He may not have sounded like Freddie but Joe Elliott could really sing plus his voice sounded great live - whadda legend. Definately the best frontman in the world and a damn fine entertainer. |
English Bowman 17.02.2005 11:52 |
I don't agree that Joe Elliot is even anywhere close to Freddie. Joe is a great frontman, for one of the best rock bands out there, but, and he would be the first to admit this, he doesn't have the rage, versitillity or power that Freddie had. Joe only sang because he couldn't get into a band as a guitarist or drummer! (And yes I am a Lep fan too) As for who reminds me of Freddie it would be Jeff Scott Soto. He doesn't sound that close but he has a similar range and power and brings true emotion and depth to the songs he sings. He is also as versitile as Freddie if not more so. Dan |
brian_may_wannabe 17.02.2005 11:53 |
To me, it's George Michael.ten to his renedition of Somebody To Love at the Freddie memorial show and he sings it as he is Freddie. Wounderful. |
English Bowman 17.02.2005 12:07 |
George was superb on that night, and no-one could have done it better, but I don't know if he could handle the rockier songs, and I guess with his announcement that he is retiring from performing we never will. Gary Cherone was also superb on that day as was Roger Daltry. I have also heard James LaBrie do a great job of Tie Your Mother Down live Dan |
Leppar 17.02.2005 13:20 |
Are you crazy? George acted like a idiot - you could tell he was trying to audition for the place of Freddie which was horrible considering it was supposed to be a tribute when all George could do was think of himself. There rant over! |

No one can EVER come close to the amazing voice of Freddie Mercury. No one... EVER. Period. |
English Bowman 18.02.2005 06:31 |
To say that no one could ever come close is a very blinkered attitude. Freddie is my favourite frontman of all time, and I think that he was one of the best, if not the best frontman ever for both voice and showmanship, but I have to admit there are people I have seen live who run him close in both respects, (and I am excluding tribute bands here,) such as Jeff Scott Soto, Gary Cherone, George Micheal, Steven Tyler, Tony Hadley, Bruce Dickinson, Roger Daltry and Madeline Bell to name a few. (I hope to be adding Paul Rodgers to this list after Wembley.) Now I am not saying that these people all sound like Freddie, as he had an almost unique voice, but these people can hit the notes and hold an audiance like he could. Open your eyes and ears and enjoy the music and musicians that are still out there whilst you can instead of when it's too late and thinking "I wish I went to see so & so" Dan |
