Don't get me wrong, I admire and respect Brian like no other living celebrity (especially rock stars), but it seems to me like on his Soapbox he just dedicates too much time to rant about the press. I mean, who wouldn't get pissed off about all the shit that press writes, but sometimes the best thing to do is just let things go and ignore them... besides, they're just worthless pieces of journalism that will not by any chance diminish the image of Brian or band. I think some of his answers are more than justified, and kudos for him for sticking up and speaking his mind, but part of me feels like responding to such garbage is giving mediocre journalists what they want... ATTENTION. |

If you sign his guestbook, does he email you? I don't think he whines too much. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 01.02.2005 21:08 |
I agree that lately, the majority of his soapboxes are just fighting back at journalists. I mean, I can definitely understand wanting to retailiate, but he of all people should know there's always going to be some sort of negative press with anything you do. And there's only so many writers you can yell at before it starts to get pointless. I guess it's better than hearing about the orbs constantly, though! But I think that if it was me, I'd try and ignore what other people said. And as long as he's happy with the decisions he makes and the music he's created, what should it matter what journalists think? After all, they're paid to have an opinion and to stir up controversy. |
Sebastian 01.02.2005 21:23 |
I think Brian whines too much about nearly anyone who doesn't 100% agree with him. |
deleted user 01.02.2005 21:40 |
I guess it's the 'Anita Dobson Complex'. |
Saint Jiub 02.02.2005 01:39 |
His whining plays right into the journalist's hands, and encourages further abuse. |
foxxy_moron 02.02.2005 01:46 |
Id whine too if those weirdoes were writing about my life.. |
Mr. Farenheit 02.02.2005 02:01 |
Yes.....he's way to thin-skinned. He a great talent....and seems like a great guy.....he should just be quiet and let it go. |

Sebastian wrote: I think Brian whines too much about nearly anyone who doesn't 100% agree with him.Exactly! I admire Brian, too. Rather for what he's done in the past than for what he does now... But it seems to me that he can't deal with criticism. He doesn't just whine about journalists who write false things about him but also about journalists who criticise the musical and his work and he sounds like a kid sometimes. |
Jimi 02.02.2005 04:59 |
Agreed. Its quite embarrasing to be honest. I don't agree that all that is written about Queen or Brian is actually unfair. As for the WWRY musical well i didn't care for it - i thought it was rather childish and poorly thought through. Its no way the best production other than its lights but that doesn't make a show / performance. He should take more of the critique on board.Like mine! |
The Mir@cle 02.02.2005 05:17 |
Well, I can imagine that he wants to react to people who write things about him or Queen using false arguments. But the best way to shut their mouths is to let this rocking world go round again. |
Fenderek 02.02.2005 05:19 |
A little bit spoiled, isn't he? Ah well- aren't we all? Are we all so cool and perfect? He's problem is- all his imperfections are exposed, especially if he uses his site the way he does... Actually, that's pretty coll- you can get to know your idol pretty well, warts and all... Aren't we complaining too much about Brian complaining too much? |
Serry... 02.02.2005 09:03 |
That's the only way for not talking about the forthcoming tour and John. He probably has the steel nerves if he's still (after 30 years of being celebrity) trying to explain something to the media. |
Mr. Scully 02.02.2005 09:17 |
I highly respect Brian for his music. Definitely not for his public opinions or whining in the soapbox. |
Jjeroen 02.02.2005 12:42 |
Well, being a journalist myself, I have to say that I've read his messages with mixed emotions. On one hand, it hurt to read those comments. Hey, reason I BECAME a journalist was partially because of Queen! I'm one of those guys that just has a deep, utter love for music. And what better thing to do then write about stuff you love?! In all honesty I can say that I, myself, NEVER EVER made myself guilty of any gutter-writing whatsoever. I don't want to, I dispise people who do! If a collegue of mine would have done the things some 'journalists' (I hate to call those leaches 'journalists') did to Freddie in his final days (or even to Brian when he had his marriage problems) I would have punched them in the face! Point though, and Brian admitted this, was that he was writing in a way that made me feel he had this feelings for ALL journalists. Luckily, he does not. Of course I already knew that (-thank God he did like MY interview ;-), but it hurt me anyway to see a man I have a deep respect for talk that way about 'me'... Fortunately he knows 'we' are not all the same. And also luckily, journalism over here is A LOT different to the English press. In Holland there is no tabloid press in the sence of the word 'tabloid' in English. (We have some gossip magazines, but luckily no-one calls the work those people do 'journalism' nor the writers 'journalists'. But I do agree on his point. The things some people write are scandalous and yes I can understand one going nuts after 35 years of gossip. My personal situation put aside, 'yes' I also felt it was getting a little too much over there in that soapbox. |
RohemianBapsody 02.02.2005 17:59 |
Compared to some of the whinning done on some of the topics about queen tours, albums etc he is a saint ;) |
jasen101 02.02.2005 18:03 |
I haven't hear Brian whine once! He simply responds to inaccurate stories by journalists who have simply got it wrong! Take the whole article of "Queen in the Stone Age"...John Harris was wrong on many points in the article...he even got the the name of the territory that sun city is in wrong! I think Brian has always had the right attitude..."If you don't like our music...fine...that's your opinion....but don't make up crap in order to make Queen look bad". |
dave2005 02.02.2005 18:29 |
Yeah - sometimes its better to ignore them ! But Brian is a great guy - and many of the things he writes are very clever and right ! |
redyfredy01 02.02.2005 21:23 |
Well i guess he just does that because the press treated Queen badly before, when they were still a band. |
3137prof 03.02.2005 09:30 |
Journalists seem to be more interested in causing trouble with what they right as it sells better. I'm sure there are plenty of bands who get better press than Queen and yet they can't sell out an entire tour straight away. It all boils down to jealousy as people don't like other people who are more successful than they are. |

"Does anyone STOP to think how he feels about your Question?" |
Ms. Bea Haven 04.02.2005 10:35 |
Live one day in his shoes. He can't walk down the street unnoticed, cameras are constantly flashing in his face, he's always in the spotlight, somebody's always putting him under a microscope, then there's the autographs autographs autographs, he's got no privacy, and people say he whines too much. I'd hate for this to be my "reality." |
brian_may_wannabe 04.02.2005 11:03 |
Does it matter if he whines about them or not? All celebrities does. |
*JAZZ* 04.02.2005 14:58 |
well he's just letting off steam, I would be VERY annoyed if the fecken' media were ranting on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and....... |
Las Palabras De Amor 04.02.2005 20:07 |
C'mon guys put things in perspective. I mean I know it's different when someone criticizes you but when Brian or any celebrity is criticized than it is for the whole world to see. Meh, I guess some people can tolerate it more than others. |
PhoenixRising 04.02.2005 21:25 |
Brian May is one of my rock'n'roll heroes. Brian has a comfort zone in which he surrounds and bathes himself within the admiration and adulation of others. You can see it when Brian posts his (and Queen's)achievements on his website the way a proud 5 year old tapes his drawings on the fridge. These things prop up his ego and give him his strength. But when someone rubs him the wrong way, no matter how slight, the lights flash and the sirens blare. Brian then goes off on some little snit against them like one of those Monty Python Holy Grail twits at the top of the castle spouting off things like "I fart in your general direction!" Call it a defense mechanism. Very unbecoming of Brian, but, however unattractive, it only serves to make the journalists prod him even more. Brian can be quite diplomatic, as he was with the apartheid situation and his eloquent response to a misinformed journalist in a South African newspaper recently. He earned a great deal of respect in that arena. His humanitarian efforts are legendary and admirable. I truly and honestly believe he'll be knighted some day, and more deservingly so than Sir Elton or or Sir Paul McCartney. Brian wears his pride on his sleeve. Quite simply, he needs to learn to defend those who attack his art and achievements with better tact and diplomacy. Or just ignore the petty bastards altogether. |

I agree totally with you except for the Sir Paul McCartney part I am of course a very big fan of his too, and I like Elton. But all in all I agree with you whole heartedly. It's QUEEN or death for me. |
