I've been a fan of Queen for over a year now and so far, I've only got six Queen albums [A Night At The Opera, The Game, A Kind of Magic, The Miracle, Innuendo and Made In Heaven], Brian May's Back To The Light album and the We Will Rock You musical CD.
I was just woundering what you lot think of the other Queen albums, Brian's albums, Roger's albums, Freddie's albums, The Cross albums etc and which album I should get next.
Kind Regards
Daniel Hughes (a.k.a. brian_may_wannabe)
queen II blows EVERYTHING else away - honestly - if you don't buy another queen album buy queen II
you can listen to fairy-feller/nevermore/march of the black queen and hear the origins of Bo Rhap
and when you've played queen II to death - because once you get it you will, get Queen I - liar, doin alright, night comes down GKR and jesus are great songs
Just buy EVERYTHING!
My personal favourites are Queen II, A Day At The Races, Jazz, The Works, The Miracle, and Innuendo.
Also there's The Queen Symphony by Tolga Kashif and Barcelona... Mr Bad Guy is really good.
As I said, get them all :-)
For Queen albums, definitely get Sheer Heart Attack and A Day At The Races. Queen II is amazing, too, but it takes a bit to warm up to, since it's so unique. Queen and Jazz are good, The Works isn't bad although it's too short, and I'd save Hot Space for last.
If you liked Back To The Light from Brian, definitely get Another World. It's just as good, and I've found that his albums stay closest to the Queen sound. As for Roger, Fun In Space is my favorite, but Electric Fire is probably second. Happiness? is kind of hit-or-miss and I've never liked Strange Frontier. For Freddie, Mr. Bad Guy honestly isn't wonderful, save for a few strong tracks, but Barcelona is much better. I'm generally not a big fan of opera, but I love this album.
After Queen II and ADATR, my favourite Queen related album is Barcelona. some of the music on there is sublime. Just listen to 'Guide Me Home/How Can I Go On' and I defy you not to be moved. Forget 'Days Of Our Lives' and other later saccharine coated ballads, those two songs together hark back to the glory days of the likes of 'You Take My Breath Away' and 'Nevermore'.
GET THEM ALL thier all great especially queen2 SHA ADATR NOWS JAZZ QUEEN THE MIRACLE INNUENDO.
As for the others brian's albums give you more of a queen sound than roger's but roger's work is diverse and orignal so get fun in space first then strange frontier and so on.Freddie's stuff well if u want to hear one of the best voices around get his stuff particularly Mr bad guy which i think is really good but not if u are looking to hear a "queen sound" on it cause apart from about 3 or 4 tracks the rest is dance and soul music.
Thanks for all your suggestions.
Any idea where I can find any of Roger's, Brian's or The Cross' albums because the part of the UK that I'm from dosen't have as far as I know.
even Queen admit to how much they loved queen II
roger is quoted somewhere as saying that they got into the studio with Roy Thomas Baker and because they weren't working in down-time like on queen I, they decided to "throw everything including the kitchen sink at it"
and boy does it show - it's just a glorious fusion of wildly creative ideas and extraordinary sound ....it's 31 years old and still sounds bloody fantastic turned up loud

Try independent record stores / online stores such as Eil.com, Amazon.co.uk
1st advice - get them all ! :)
If you cant get them all - get The Works - thats a wonderful album. For live - Live At Wembley definitely - it is amazing. And for solo - Mr. Bad Guy is very good.

You may want to look for them on ebay. There are usually copies of most of the Queen albums in good condition and low prices. There are also a few Brian May albums and some Cross and several Roger Taylor.
Also check Amazon as someone else said.
I agree with Brenski. Queen II is their most ambitious project for a follow-up album. Once they got a little experience with the studio for their demos and then finishing up all the tracks for the first album, they went crazy second time around for this album. Highly recommended.
Well i have been a Queen fan for about 8 months now and i only have one album which is News of the World, but i have many other C.D.s and DVDs of them. I have Greatest Hits one and two for both C.D. and DVD, i have live at wembly statium '86 on DVD, i have on fire live at the bowl on C.D., and i have a C.D. of them before they really bacame famous called Queen Preordained.
News of the World is one of my favourites. ADATR is simply (at least in my opinion) the best album. I'd recommend Queen II for Nevermore alone before you even begin to list the amazing tracks on there. Sheer Heart Attack is also a great rock album and blows anything out today out of the water.
The "Mr.Bad Guy" album/cassett/cd is "Brillant"! to say the least. And I mean that in a very loving way. It would be right up there with my top 10 favorite albums/cassett/cd. I would highly reccommend it. On MY scale of 1-10 I give it a 10. On My scale of STAR rating from *-*****, It of course recieves *****. Thank you very much for the question. It was "Brillant"!
as well.
Hot Space is different, but it isn't shit I think... I like some of the funky/groovy songs on it. If you really wanna hear John playing funky bass lines, buy that cd... But like I said, it isn’t the real Queen sound.
My personal favourites:-
Queen 2,
Sheer Heart Attack,
NATO,
ADATR,
The Miracle
Innuendo
Least favourite by miles:-
Hot Space...... too far gone from the distinctive Queen sound and has the worst single ever by Queen - Body Language.....absolute shite. One step too far after AOBTD.
