British rockers QUEEN have banned audiences from smoking during their comeback tour in March (05) - because it damages their new frontman PAUL RODGERS' vocal chords.
The newly reformed band lost their singer, FREDDIE MERCURY, to AIDS in 1991, but have replaced him with ex-FREE singer Rodgers.
But Rodgers fears he will never be able to live up to his predecessor's performance if he's breathing in smoke fumes during their European dates.
The band's guitarist BRIAN MAY explains, "The non-smoking request comes from Paul, who finds it seriously affects his voice.
"I hope people will understand. Maybe we could sell patches at the door?"

Well, seems that the front row would be smokefree...finally :D

Banning smoking from public places is becoming more popular these days so it's a sign of the times as well as protecting Paul's voice. Thing is, will it be strongly enforced by security staff or will they turn a blind eye!! Someone who is "gasping for a fag" will try their luck if they know they can get away with it.
Smoke bombs/thunderflashes during TYMD - absolutely.
People! This might be off topic, but please be aware of the fact that this tour will NOT be a big production! It will be low-key and of-course there will be some nice lights. But don't expect a lot of smoke, bombs going off, big flying stuff or a huge stage-spectacle in general çause there isn't gonna be any!
Just wanted to warn you!
I think that nobody expects that kind of show. There will be some smoke-bombs (TYMD, BoRhap) and of course the lightshow will be in key role, it has always been one of the Queen's trademarks.
One thing to bear in mind is that the "smoke" from smoke bombs and stage effects is very different to tobacco smoke. It tends to be heavier and less likely to be breathed in, and also is not around for as long

Totally right. I'm a pretty heavy smoker myself but whenever I'm in stage-smoke I have trouble breathing.
(Well 'trouble' is a heavy word, but you know what I mean). But again: there will be NO smokeboms and stuff!!
i agree with the no-smoking request, it should be requested in every venues
i think that some lights and special effect will be anyway, it's Queen after all!
no offence but how unfucking rock'n'roll could you imagine brian johnson or bon scott doing that of jaymz for metallica or ginger from the wildhearts.. what next no boozing because roger has a weak bladder (& im a non smoker) the tobacco police are taking over

Was thinking the same thing myself. TYMD will hopefully have "thunderflashes"......more of an explosive effect and will add more excitement to the start of the gig.

C'mon.. they wouldn't give them away for free!! Fans should bring their own patches anyway. It's a non smoking tour so really it's tough shit if you smoke.
