Why did the engineer sing on this song?
Unless I'm mistaken, he sings the
"Hey boy where'd you get it from..."
and the
"One two three four..."
parts along with Freddie.
What was the point of this? Surely it would have been just as well having one of the band do it?
Why does everybody think Brian sings low is beyond me. His voice is high, note how he sang Love Of My Life...
Anyway, the "one two three..." is just Fred imo. Mike sings just "hey boy... did you go". The reason... dunno, perhaps Fred liked how he sang or they made a flutter or something. Hard to tell

Possibly they have seen the making of Bo Rhap thing on GVH1 where Brian says something like, "Generally, Freddie and I could sing quite low, where Roger could really sing the high notes. We could all stay in there up to a point, but Roger could really make those top notes count." Or something like that. Obviously Freddie had a very large range and was capable of powerful singing in both low and high registers, and Roger too had a very impressive range, with some extra punch in the extreme upper range and some loss of power in the lower range. Brian always seemed pretty mid-range to me. He never hit high notes like Freddie or Roger that I recall, and I don't remember any booming low notes from him either, though he is often difficult to pick up in the mix. But that's what the man said, so who knows.
Maybe they thought it was nice to have a non familiar voice asking "Hey boy where'd you get it from"
As it were a stranger asking something to the lover boy

Yeah, I think you're right. I'd actually thought about posting the same question but never got around to checking the forum archives first.
He really sounds great on it for a guy whose job title is engineer.
Might be a good question to pose directly to Brian.

That's a good guess; it could definately have been something like that. Never tought about it in the context of the lyrics like that.
I don't know - there could be any reasons - all above reasons or something exotic like a losed Freddie's bet to Mike :-)
Why did John Anthony sing on "Modern Times Rock'n'Roll"?
Who knows, who knows...

Go and buy 'Live At Brixton Academy' CD or VHS and you'd hear and see Brian's LOML version.
The karaoke muting isn't Brian. The "satanist" part of Resurrection does have indeed a low voice (kind of weak btw) but imo it doesn't count for "a lot"
