As I approach my mid-twenties, I often as not find myself wondering if I'm ever going to be a rock star or enjoy any kind of fame whatsoever. Truth be told, I reckon I'm not going to make it as a rock 'n roller. Not that I've left it too late, but I can neither sing nor play an instrument of any kind. Granted, it hasn't stopped that there Good Charlotte or the now happily defunct Busted. But I just couldn't live with myself.
I don't possess any real skill or talent at anything other than gardening, and I'll bet that TV Gardening shows have long since past their zenith, more's the pity.
I don't fancy becoming a serial killer, or assasinating someone famous (though I'd consider Bill Cosby, if the money was right; I never could stick him), anyhow that's 'infamy' and I'm after 'famy'.
So, all told, I don't see how I can ever fulfill my dream of having a small gaff of my own, with a little orchard and a pond for fishing. I could always win the lottery, I suppose, but the gaffer don't abide gambling, save for on the horses, cards and the bingo. "If someone's offering odds " he says "I'll give you 2-1 on that it's a rip-off."
Ever think maybe you've missed the boat? I don't think I've ever even had a ticket.
Well, I think 99% of the people on earth can't achieve their dreams. We all have dreamed of becoming a famous pop star or sportsman (sometimes I still do). But I think less then 1 percent is lucky and talented enough to make their dreams come true.
When I was 13 years, I was a pretty good football player but I didn't made it. I played with Arjen Robben (Chelsea) in our Provincial selection team. So maybe you can say I was close to success... But I have a good job now (and I'm only 21) so I don't have a reason to complain. I just enjoy life the way it is now.
You're right about having dreams and I say there's no harm in it.
I posted this topic on Queenonline, as I've got so much time on my hands, and some wise guy called Minder told me to get a job!
I've got a job, but it only pays enough to keep a roof over the gaffer's head. I was just daydreaming about being rich, that's all. I didn't mean any harm.
But he's probably right. "If you walk around with your head in the clouds " says gaffer "sooner or later, you're going to hit turbulence."
Don't worry man...our generation...(i'm 25) definately were dreamers. I always dreamed about becoming famous like Queen...and I'm very talented...played guitar and piano since i was twelve...but it's simply fate that gets you into fame.
Keep on dreaming though!
If you've missed the boat anyway, it doesn't matter if it has sunk or not... You weren't on it!
The only thing that matters is that you try to jump on the next boat that passes you.... Believe in it, and everything will be all right someday, somehow. Have faith in yourself!!
Thanks for your kind words, but I just have absolutely no talent whatsoever. More to the point, if that boat does sink while I'm on it, I can't even swim!
Gaffer's right, I won't amount to much. "You rush about like a fart in a frenzy, but you've no idea where you're going, which is nowhere fast" he says.
