i asked this recently...but didn't get much definite response
if i want to put a couple of queen tracks for download on my website and change them every week - what would be a safe policy?
what can i legitimatly put for download
are demos/outtakes/lives and unreleased sessions okay?
what would put me in court and what wouldn't?
please don't reply if you're not sure - i only want safe reliable answers - then i can let other queen fans have my stuff
The safe, reliable answer is nothing. Everysong has a copyright, regardless if your recording has been released or not. Posting it for download without the owners consent violates this copyright.
But, for the most part, you'll only attract problems if you start posting released material that can cost QP actual money right not. If you start posting album tracks, you'll be in trouble. It you start posting long forgotten remixes or average sounding concert tracks, you'll probably be overlooked.

Not true. Most demos of songs are not copyrighted until they are officially released.
I'll concede that. Of course, they have the ability to copyright demos when they choose, so it's status as a "legit" download can change at any moment.
In my defense, I was thinking more about concert recordings rather than demos. Concert recordings are rarely released, yet they remain copyrighted songs.
