There has been some speculation that John wasn't even invited to tour. I have no idea if this is true or not but it wouldnt surprise me. Clearly neither Roger or Brian have anything other then a business relationship with John. Why bother asking someone who clearly (as evidenced by his actions) does not want to have anything to do with Queen anymore. That is John's decision and I respect his right to make it. I would also then respect Brian and Rogers decision not to invite him. Why would you want someone so negative about the tour to be around? To gain more legitamacy for the use of the Queen name? I personally would like to see a bass player there who is as excited about the tour as Brian or Roger is. If thats not John anymore then bring on Pino Pallodino or whoever else they have in mind! |

There have been a lot of rumours lately. One said they had a meeting this month, Benn told us (I'm curious what his source is) that he wasn't even asked... Well, I don't know what's the thruth, but asked or not... he woudn't have done it anyway. |
Benn 24.01.2005 15:15 |
And I think that the fact Brian and Roger did what they did with Robbie Williams and 5ive etc had a huge amount to do with John's position on the issue. Remember that John was the business brain behind the band in the early days - as I understand it he was the one that pushed for the split from John Anthony and Roy Thomas Baker and the move to John Reid as well. Imagine having been the one to drive that forward only for those terrible ncollaborations to happen when YOU believe that the band should not do anything? How would you feel if you wer ein that position? Would you want to do anything with them. I think that QPL left Brian and Roger in the shit because they were still personally contracted to work for them. I would *assume* that John either wasn't personally contracted past a certain date or he was able to buy himself out of the contract at a time that he felt comfortable. Hence, John doesn't have to do anything that John doesn't want to do. |
Paul Mark 24.01.2005 15:31 |
QPL is not some evil monster out there. QPL is Brian, Roger and John! A few years back someone posted a link to the financial statements of the company. The company is OWNED by the 3 of them plus I think Mary got Freddies shares. |
deakys ghost 24.01.2005 15:40 |
I would have assumed that the production company worked for the band and not vice-versa. As a Director of the firm Deacon would still have his royalties paid from QPL to his own production company (was is Goldfinch Ltd??). As QPL owns the majority of sound recordings (and through sister comapnies the visual/computer/theatre etc)it's owners (including JD) have a say in what's released etc or have the right to a say. Deacon may be retired from the stage and recording but I still believe he can throw a spanner in the works if he so desires by objecting to a project release. He has not exercised this right,as far as we know, and is quite content going on holidays and counting his fortune....which increases every time his colleagues do some work! The man is a genius! |

It will never stop does it? :-) I think the guys have a very clear agreement between them. As far as I know John is informed (if necessary) about Queen activities. How would you feel if you clearly said "no" to being involved, if you were still asked over and over again? I think Brian and Roger are much more aware of how John feels. And I even believe they're still friends. See it as a guy that once was a collegue. |
deakys ghost 24.01.2005 16:20 |
I would say that it has been a long time since John was last asked to 'join' the band, something along the lines of refusal often offends. Furthermore I think that too much water has "gone under the bridge" and things have moved so would John be welcome back with open arms now by the other 2? |
Paul Mark 24.01.2005 16:33 |
I checked up on it. I have access to company information as it is a requirement of my job. The following is the shareholders information for Queen Productions Limited (the infamous QPL!) Shareholders: 1. F MERCURY (EXECUTOR OF) 2. MR B MAY 3. MR J DEACON 4. ROGER TAYLOR Nobody else has any shares in QPL! If anyone would like the full financial report, I would be happy to e-mail it to you. :-) |
deakys ghost 24.01.2005 16:39 |
If you look at FM's last will the executor of that document is one Henry James Beach acting on behalf of Mary, Freddies parents and his sister, so in effect he, JB, represents a quarter of the group and acts on behalf of Fred as well as looking after the entire group, a powerful figure! |
FairyKing 24.01.2005 16:50 |
After all, he was the one who kept his word. "no queen witout freddie"..he never changed his mind like Brian and Roger did. I can't wait to see this concert, but I have to admit I pity those who still want John to join. Let him be. And Linda, if I was 13 I'd really really like You much :-P lol |
Whatinthewhatthe? 24.01.2005 21:22 |
Now, do you really think he would come? After all this time?? No.... |
RohemianBapsody 25.01.2005 14:57 |
John has decided to gracefully retire in peace and I think we should all respect his wishes and hope he has a long and happy life. If you were put in his shoes, with the amount of money we presume he has would you go out on the road if you didn't want to ? |
FairyKing 25.01.2005 15:36 |
I really see his point of view...but in his shoes, i'd keep on playing until i die.. i can't imagine myself not bein' active. retiremed is a pre-death in my opinion, but he seems to be the quiet guy so it's alright. And I say again, he kept his word. |
Deacons 1st Choice 25.01.2005 18:31 |
Indeed he did... Bless him.... |
cooky 25.01.2005 23:35 |
it would be nice to see john deacon play because he knows how brian and roger work and to get the best out of the shows for the fans would be great,i live in the same town as john and i supose im a big fan and would like to see him because of that, but if he chooses to retire from the music life then have a happy retirement. |
FairyKing 26.01.2005 00:02 |
a happy retirement? lol Well, sometimes musicians with similar tastes get to play together GREAT 1st time! So next bass player doesn't really have to know Bri & Rog since ages, and anyway everyone knows them as musician, their styles etc. So stay safe, whoever will be it'll be good. |
foxxy_moron 26.01.2005 02:15 |
Yeah.. i agree. Give him a break!! We'd love to see him.. but we gotta lay off him about this. The more we pressure him the less likely he's gunna come back |
jasen101 26.01.2005 02:22 |
John is retired!!! End of story. |
Serry... 26.01.2005 09:29 |
I care. Even if he's retired - they need to invite him. |
FairyKing 26.01.2005 10:38 |
^.^ I love your proud and straight talking! And the fact you feel free to say whatever You think! That's the way |
FairyKing 26.01.2005 12:00 |
People use to tell me I'm mean also... So i understand what You mean. And you don't have to tell me you're sweet, it's clear! I am too, but I can be fighting when it needs. I think I got what You mean cos for those things we sound quite similar. |

But, the way you are talking about Deaky, it seems like you are offending him, and I dont want to offend John. |
Deacons 1st Choice 26.01.2005 21:30 |
Trust me folks...John is not entirely out of the picture.... Keep yer eyes open..... Heh heh heh.... |
Melancholy Blues 28.01.2005 08:21 |
i think they would have invited him. none of us know what the relationship between roger, brian & john is. they probably understand and know exactly why he wants to be retired. what is the point in further speculation. if you want to know why don't you ask brian or roger or find john and ask him. |
FairyKing 28.01.2005 08:32 |
I GOT TIRED OF THIS! John simply retired cos for him there's no Queen without Freddie, who was like an 'older brother' more than a mere friend. Believe me it's all in here, he ONLY played with the others twice, for 'no one but you' and the whoe must go on with elton john (there was a charity thing, that's the reason). SO PLEASE STOP ASKING, BEGGING...PRAYING...HE IS R-E-T-I-R-E-D. That's all, folks. And I don't think Brian and John hear from him so often as many of you may think!! |
Deacons 1st Choice 28.01.2005 20:59 |
True...they don't hear from him at all really. When they do, it's almost THEM calling HIM. They ask for his thoughts on being including or contributions to new releases (which are really just re-releases..let's face it) but other then that they really don't communicate much on a personla level. Brian has laready commented a few months ago that they hardly ever hear from him anymore. He is quite content doing what he is doing now. |
Want To Live Forever 11.04.2005 21:24 |
i wish i can see Deacy with BR & RT again performing live... with or without PR |
iron eagle 11.04.2005 21:35 |
he was in fact asked |
Justice 12.04.2005 00:19 |
Yes. Brian said they asked him, and I'll take his word over baseless internet rumours any day of the week. John, to my knowledge, has made no reputable public statement about Brian and Roger's activities, so nobody has any grounds for any kind of assumptions about his opinion or feelings towards Roger and Brian AT ALL. |
The Mir@cle 12.04.2005 02:35 |
Roger Taylor in a interview. Question:How surprised would you have been if John Deacon had asked to do this tour? I would have been very pleasantly surprised, but knowing John, it wouldn't happen. I haven't spoken to him for about a year. He has decided to hide away - and I respect that.I think he was a little more fragile and not as well equipped to deal with the rough and tumble of everyday existence. He prefers not to undergo the stress of it all. He'd never stop us using the Queen name. We wondered, when we started the musical. But John told us he liked it, he approved. Source: linkSo would they've spoken to him? Bri maybe, but I doubt it. |
Justice 12.04.2005 03:41 |
Brian said he asked him. So until you come up with evidence to the contrary, zip it and stop the silly, baseless rumours. |
