I never really liked that song when i was younger. Pretty off- key for the Queen standrts. But as i grew older i valued more and more that effort of Freddie to put his mentality at those difficult times into a song. You see, i am pretty sure now, that he was actually meaning it. I knew people with terminal illness. I witneased how the fear of dying , plus the medication, can make someone loose rationality.Strange things happen as you witness your own decay. At least your health -decay. Not that he became crazy or mental, but he could understand and be conscious about the way all this nightmare changed his mentality. If you ever saw fotos of his last days, the evidence is there, the bluring his eyes.
But this is the greatness of Mercury as well. He could put all that shit aside, without denying them, and transform them into art. And without being miserable or unplesant.
Our boy was very intelegant, shelf-conscious and brave as hell. This should be a lesson for every Queen-fun out there.
I was never sure whether the word madness (which crops up once or twice) is a cypher for AIDS or an actual description of a symptom.
I've tended to think it is a cypher for AIDS. At the stage when he could still record I doubt he had sanity issues (certainly not when Innuendo was being recorded).
The word "innuendo" is interesting - it implies hinting to me. So I wonder if the album Innuendo had lots of hints on it. TSMGO seems to be one big hint. (Not sure Hitman is, as some commentators have suggested.)
Otherwise I don't understand why the song or album were called Innuendo.
The Slightly Mad video is the saddest one they ever did, I can hardly bear to watch it. It's sadder than TATDOOL any day of the week.
As for the other stuff, I don't think they would have gone out of their way to tell the world that Freddie had AIDS.

IMHO most of the songs on that album are innuendos, especially TSMGO and IGSM. They, and many other songs on the album, point to a comming end.
Brenski i live in Greece. Is is slightly impossible to find the book here. Are there any references to Freds mental status over the end ,in the book? And what is the stage play thing? Do you mean the footage from the making of the video?
IGSM is surprisingly original. It doesn’t sound like anything I have ever heard. Wonders that Freddie cold do with music is truly amazing. I think the video complements the song in a sense that it captures the mood. By the way I saw the making of this video where, at one point, guys are sitting on a couch and plying with a famous penguin. Suddenly the penguin starts rubbing up on Freddie and than relives himself. I don’t know about you, but to me it seamed as if the penguin sensed something bad.
