Alright, I'm sure this topic has been discussed before (and if not, why the hell not!), but what does everyone think of The Faces? I got their box set last summer, and, quite simply, it is the finest assemblage of any band's body of work. It contains all the essential songs, but its main selling point is its inclusion of mostly rare stuff, showing what a great live band they really were.
Ronnie Lane is immortalized almost as much as Freddie is to Queen fans, and it's easy to see why: Ronnie was clearly a humanitarian who enjoyed life, even if it was cut all too shortly by a relentless illness (MS). Ronnie Wood is at his guitar playing best, never to be equalled on a Rolling Stones recording, while Kenney Jones proves how good a drummer he can be (never to be equalled on a post-Keith Moon Who recording) - just listen to 'I Know I'm Losing You'.
In short, The Faces were an amazing band - great musicians who knew how to have a good time (for one BBC TV appearance, they all switched instruments; another time, they ran on playing football) who could probably drink you all under the table.
They were one of a kind, never to be replaced.
