According to Brian's soapbox today there won't be any tour dates for Scotland an Ireland due to prior commitments of Paul Rodgers - too bad for the fans there.
It's a disapointment having to trvel from Ireland to England, as well as extra expense! Not a real surprise though as Queen only played Ireland 4 times and Brian played twice. If the American tours goes ahead in September / October I would thnk Scotland and Ireland may not see concerts until Jan / Feb 2006. But fingers crossed for earlier dates!!
Really? CRAP!!! Damn but I suppose after what happened last time Queen were in Ireland they wouldn't jump at the chance to come and perform. I wasn't there but supposedly during the Magic Tour in 1986 a few drunks gatecrashed the gig in Slane and started throwing things at the band. Freddie swore he'd never return and he never did.
To hell with Paul and his prior arrangements-I'd go just to see Brian and Roger;-)
i think they will put a gig on up here, let's hope that they manage to sort out paul's prior engagements and get the dates sorted for after the wembley gig, but if not, who cares!! they will play scotland for sure later on and that means i'll get to see them in england in 2005 and in scotland in 2006 :)
The concert in Slane can not be put down just because of a few drunks (happens at all gigs) as it was over sold, wet and miserable and the gates opened early plus the support was nothing to write about. There was trouble at Knebworth in 86 but don't recall any comments from the band about not playing England again, I've never seen a quote from Freddie regarding Irish fans/concerts doesn't sound like the kind of thing he would have said in public, or any artist would for that matter.
He didn't say it public but Jim Hutton mentions it in his book 'Mercury and Me'. I quote 'On 5 July they (Queen) played Dublin, where they had the only poor reception of the tour. Several drunken gate-crashers got in and started throwing things at Freddie and the others. After that night Freddie vowed that the band would never return to Ireland again. Nor did they.'
Im only repeating what I read.
Sadly, they never returned to any other place after that tour.
I don't think that the reason of not playing in Dublin is that one. It is just logistics, venue availability, Paul Rodgers' agenda, you name it ....
No Scottish dates, due to Pauls commitments eh!!
Do you think it might have something to do when he infuriated fans with a 45 minute set with Bad Company in Glasgow Last year.
If he had got caught that night he would have got lynched.
Wow...last i heard there WAS dates lined up for Scotland. Did'nt Brian mention it earlier this month on his website? Or am i just going spare from all the conflicting info this Tour has brought me?
Amazing how quickly things change these days...you never know what to expect when you log on!
If I was Irish/Scottish, I wouldnt be too dissapointed. An Easyjet flight from Dublin or Belfast is less than £20 return into Liverpool. You'd pay more for a coach and ferry! They also fly into Luton which is about 45 mins to an hour from Birmingham. Its not the end of the world! There are some cheap means of transport these days. You'll pay more for the ticket than the travel!
And for Scottish fans, whats the problem?? Theyre playing Newcastle. Drive there!
