Hi again
I've been watching queen live 4 years and in my opinion they are simply the best band live and i'll tell you why, when i watch queen they go thru their repotoire of songs and play them as well as they can but to my knowledge they are the only band i've seen who use theatrics and lighting to such good effect that they give their songs an extra ingreident that would be missing otherwise, eg flashing lights, explosions at begining and ending of songs, costumes changes.
They really do put on a truly great show in every sense and this is what i think anyone agree or disagree?
Yes, I agree. There wasn't any dancers nor back-vocal girls on stage and that's great, 'cause I'm tired of watching about 15 people on stage during a show of band with 4 members within.
I think, as Brian has said, they were the forerunners of the theatrical performance.
I think it is a little more common now-a-days.
Look at Billy Joel, Elton John, even Weird Al.
They all put on an amazing show.
Queen's energy is still a bit tough to better.
Queen were definately the best band I ever saw live, for most of the reasons already stated.
However the second best band I ever saw live was Wishbone Ash. No fancy lights, no theatrics, the exact opposite of Queen. Just brilliant music played brilliantly. Are there no other Wishbone Ash fans in Queenzone ?
Just a Queen related bit of trivia, Laurie Wisefield, who was in Wishbone Ash the first time I ever saw them live, now appears nightly on guitar in a certain show currently playing in Las Vegas.
Could it be said that Queen had the best lighting next to Pink Floyd (circa 1980)? Of course I guess a lot of things could be said but would that be true lol
I'm wondering how Kiss' lighting would have ranked next to Queen's about that time....
Maybe I'm biased, but I think Queen could just be the greatest or at least one of the greatest live bands. Freddie's energy was amazing, but Brian, Roger and John were great, too. And one of the best thing was that they didn't play the song exactly as it appeared on the album. I just saw Cake in concert a couple months ago, and the entire show sounded almost exactly like it did on the album. It wasn't a bad concert, but if I just wanted to hear the songs like they were on the album, I could've stayed at home! So I love that Queen were always taking risks, and that they weren't afraid to be energetic or flamboyant.
AC/DC and KISS are so good live that they day they decided to stop touring their careers are over.
It doesn't matter how many studio albums they put afterwards.
Yet, I can't compare them to Queen. They were on a league of their own when it came to live performances. Freddie connected to the crowd like no one else ever did, and that's what made Queen the best live band ever.
I believe Bowie was the first to really integrate theatrics into a live rock spectacle, but I think he overdid it with the Glass Spider tour.
Personally, I don't believe Queen were the best, mainly because I never got a chance to see them - there's something about personally viewing a live concert as opposed to on video, or, worse, listening to an audio depiction. So, I'll submit The Who as the best.
BUT, I take solace in the fact that, throughout their career, Queen never had more than five musicians regularly on a stage - they only added the fifth member for their last four tours or so to assist in a successful interpretation of their music. To me, they rank along with Rush as the hardest-working band of their time.
And Freddie was clearly in a league of his own - he could connect with anybody and execute it so perfectly. Even sitting down, as on the 'Now I'm Here' vocal segment from Queen On Fire. Truly one of a kind.
I'm just glad Queen never hired backing vocalists, a rhythm guitarist, or a percussionist for any of their tours, which is what disappoints me about The Who and The Rolling Stones.
I've seen live concerts of LedZep PinkFloyd(dvds only),and YES,Queen is the best.Brian May,Roger Taylor,John Deacon,of course are great, and Freddie Mercury is the only frontman who could hold the fans until the end of the show.
