After owning one since Xmas, I've heard many people saying that plugging an Ipod on a computer that is not your default computer in which you have built your music library, will immediatly erase all the songs on your Ipod.
I've also heard other bad things about Itunes messing up with the tracks on your Ipod if you set all your library updates to an automatic mode, so I've chosen to do everything manually. So far nothing bad has happened.
Has anyone else who owns an Ipod had any problems with tracks being automatically loaded, or in the worst cases erase from the Ipod?
Yep, it happened to me a few months ago. I have a 40 gig iPod and I hooked it up to my sister's computer. When iTunes loaded, it asked me if I wanted to make that my default music library, so I said sure -- what the hell, so I clicked Yes. Well, a few seconds later, at the top of the iTunes where it displays the track that is playing and track time, it said "Automatically Updating". It took about 2 minutes and then it said Update Complete. I went to make a playlist on my iPod and all 6,000 of my songs were gone.
Have you ever used MusicMatch? I downloaded it after that iTunes incident and use it instead of iTunes now and I've found it a lot easier to use than iTunes...but some other people I know who have iPods think iTunes is easier to use...so I guess it's just a matter of preference.
I tried taking my friend's Ipod and plugging it into my computer to transfer my music to his, and that worked just fine. But I'm not sure if the Ipod can then transfer back to Itunes. I'm hoping it will, since my computer just broke and I'm going to have to upload everything again.
I still prefer to try Itunes to MusicMatch. My dad says MusicMatch is easier though.
As long as all commands are manual on Itunes, then everything is OK with me.
