Do you guys notice how the Beach Boys would weave their voice into the chordings just like Queen? For example, you'll hear the guitar going, then you'll hear the voices doing the same thing or the "voices" being the chords behind the lead vocal. I'm just saying the style in which they do it is similiar to the Beach Boys even though alot bands use backing vocals. Styx is a band that used heavy backing vocals its just they did it differently. Just listen to a song like Good Vibrations or any of their popular stuff.
I assume we all know about Larry Lurex but less so that song "I can hear music".
u mean "the wall of sound" thingy? Dunno, i don't think they made tracks the same way. Maybe. Not an expert on that. I know the "I can hear music" thing was very similar to the Beach Boys sound. Think they did that again with "Funny How Love Is". Other than that? Not sure. :)
Yes, especially on Funny How Love Is. Thats sound is very close to the Beach Boys. I think thats mainly what I'm talking about. I think there might be a few things on Queen II like that.
Queen always had their own style doing it but I've contemplated the idea of Queen being Led Zeppelin + Beach Boys + Beatles

the FHLI song was a natural progression from the Lurex single - freddie loved the sound so much he wanted to stick one on II, obviously.
a lot of people say it doesn't fit onto side black - but i think it's perfect - it compliments the other tracks on the album and nicely segues MOTBQ and SSOR - which there would be no natural progression without this song....listen to the way MOTBQ blends into FHLI - beautiful
the beachboys original (which i have) is far superior to "queens pet project" larry lurex
but you can see the homage in the track - although the homage itself rightly belongs to Phil Specter - who is widly regarded as the "Governor" of the wall of sound
the surf sound which the beach boys made their own only really scratched the surface (pardon pun) of WOS - Brian Wilson was more interested in harmonies than "filling every gap"
Yes, they were influenced by them. Which doesn't mean they sounded "the same". A lot of other bands influenced them and the combination of that is the starting point of them as arrangers. Then they would get their own style (which imho can be noticed from the very first demo sessions in De Lane Lea), but the influences can still be noticed.
