Not to be "ungreatful" for what Queen fans have been give, but... I so think that Robbie captures the spirit of Freddie and Queen. On numerous occasions Robbie Williams has said how much he loves Freddie. If you see him in concert, you can see how influenced he is. It is one of the best Freddie Mercury impressions you will ever see. I think that if Robbie was touring with them, it really would wake up all the Queen fans out there. They would absolutely own 2005. It would be the biggest tour Europe had ever seen. God knows how many people would see them. Freddie really was integral to Queen. To most people, he was Queen. Robbie really does engender the elements that were Freddie. Some might say it would then be a "Robbie Williams + Queen tour". Well, it was always a "Freddie Mercury + Queen tour" before... |
The Mir@cle 06.01.2005 09:50 |
Do we want to see a copy of Freddie...?? There can be only one!! And Robbie seems to be successful solo, so he doesn't have interest in touring with two old men. Well maybe you're right, it could become a huge tour (Queen has a lot of fans, so has Robbie)... But for now, we have to do it with Rogers. Let's give him at least a chance, instead of talking who can replace him. |
The Fairy King 06.01.2005 10:27 |
I prefer Robbie too. |

Great point, Richard, and I agree with you. I'm sure Roger and above all Brian wouldn't have liked to stay in the shadow and leave the lights to Robbie Williams. As we already said, Paud Rodgers won't be the real star of the concert so that Brian and Roger will have their success, again. But it's only half Queen, and yes: people all around the world mostly went to the gigs to see Freddie Mercury and his band, the mighty QUEEN. Said that, I will follow as many concerts as I can, but I'd suggest everyone not to close the eyes and keep in mind which kind of shows we're going to attend. |

OMG Mr Orchard, what are you doing... The best tribute Bri and Rog can give to Freddie is never try to sound like they did with him again. As to whether they would "own 2005"... they are just rock musicians. Not that important really. I'm glad they try to cooperate with a grown-up musician. |
Mlaimo 06.01.2005 13:30 |
Another thing...Robbie doesn't need it. He has the world (or, at least Europe) already by the balls, so it'd only be a 'fun' thing to do for him, whereas for both Paul and Queen, it's a jump-start to semi-inactive careers. I also think that Rogers and Queen, being form the same era, are a more likely fit, despite Paul not having the same cat-like finesse on stage that Freddie exhibited. I saw the clips of him singing with Brian and Roger, and must say that he was impressive. He hasn't lost a thing. His style will also add to many on stage surprises, like the addition of tunes more befitting to him. Sleepin' on the Sidewalk? You betchya! Any offical word on John yet? |

I think if Robbie fronted Queen it would be like Brian and Roger being his backing band - that would suck. I hated the WATC Version with Robbie - prefer to listen to him solo. He comes form an entirely other generation and background. Wait how PR will pull it off! |
Borhap80 06.01.2005 16:19 |
Ok!! When the Robbie discussion was going around the boards some 4 years ago I supported that collaboration and I still do in a way.... I think Robbie Williams is a great entertainer and a good singer... STILL : From a musical point of view : - Paul Rodgers is a GREAT singer, and better than Robbie Williams. - Brian and Roger have found out that Paul is a great singer and works in the Queen format. - Robbie Williams is a GREAT entertainer but he has many things to learn as a singer.... (Thats true.) MARK THAT : Robbie Williams is a good singer but if you have heard some live takes of We Are the Champions with him I think you'll be scared!!! He has sung that song many times all out of tune..... As a entertainer he is perfect, but as a singer I'll give him some more years to develope... |
brENsKi 06.01.2005 17:21 |
i loved the WATC version he did the guy is so camp and would've performed the role with honour ....and also let's not forget he fits the Freddie role well for one other reason...rumour in the music biz is that he too was also a letterbox!!! ;-) |

I don't really like Robbie Williams myself. I would prefer to see Paul Rogers. I think Paul Rogers is a fairly good singer. |
Mayboy 06.01.2005 18:41 |
I prefer Paul to be honest, as long as he doesnt do all the Freddie related Personas on stage it will be fine by me :) |

I'm torn between Robbie and Paul. Paul's "veteran rock star" image can stil get my vote, although Robbie's way too inflated ego stil has a chance. I just imagine that Robbie, as said earlier, will be living his fantasies on stage. |
zanotti 07.01.2005 01:28 |
The tour is with Paul Rodgers for a reason. They tried to do something with Robbie years ago and for one reason or another it didnt work out. Just be happy you will be able to see queen at all, I dont think they will be coming down here to Australia! |
slightly mad 22 07.01.2005 04:46 |
more "boring " chat about stuff we have been over loads of times already!! let's just give rodgers a chance and see!! i'd of prefered Robbie tho too!! before all this was announced there was a topic askin who we wanted to replace FM and i said what about R.W?? "F**K BLOBBIE" was my reply!!! don't think he's well liked round here |
Hankster 07.01.2005 05:16 |
Well .. I really liked Robbie's WATC, and he's the biggest entertainer of this moment really. I'm not a big fan of his music but there're two things that made me give him some big respect; - Swing When You're winning - Live at Knebworth And why are people bitching at the WWRY lyrics? He wasn't singing for a croud of Queen fans, and he wasn't singing with Queen on stage. Just Rob at his own show with his own people; why would a different WWRY version insult us?.. grow up.. He's just a big fan of Queen; before one of his concerts he showed Hammer to Fall from Wembley '86, at a big screen to warm up the fans .. just a nice thing to show the people that he's a big fan of our beloved band. I think Rob would be a great choice for the 2007 Queen tour :D \0/ ... maybe George Michael for 2009 ... :P |
radio_what's_new 07.01.2005 06:12 |
I want Robbie Williams to be the singer. Robbie Williams has proven to be the best entertainer in Europa for quit a long time now and it is stupid that Queen has chosen Paul Rodgers because his music is not good and he looks like an wannabe cool guy,I think a man in his 50's wearing leather pants is looking ridiculous. I think with Robbie Queen could heave been huge amongst young fans in Europa. Now only old fans and 50+ people are going to the gigs...It's a shame really |
Melancholy Blues 07.01.2005 07:47 |
i don't think we should try and find someone like freddie, freddie was freddie and robbie is robbie. he shouldn't try and be like freddie unless it is just the way he is. i don't think we should go see the queen + tour to see someone like freddie, but rather someone who puts their own mark on queen songs. if we want to see someone be like freddie then we should just watch live at wembley, rather than a lame rip off. |
Fenderek 07.01.2005 09:00 |
Many ppl are saying that they're doing this ONLY for money... ...and than they say Robbie would be better... ...wouldn't it THAN be ONLY for the money...? ps If Robbie captures Queen spirit than I've missed something... I always thought about Queen as extremely talented and intelligent musicians. None of that I can say about Willims. talented...? Not really, BUT we can argue. Intelligent...? No argument, sorry. I think he really IS a moron; haven't heard one single interview with him where he showed ANY intelligence... Thanks God It's Not Robbie!!! |
The Mir@cle 07.01.2005 09:14 |
Great post Fenderek. |
Mr. Scully 07.01.2005 10:09 |
Robbie better than Paul Rodgers? Maybe but as somebody already said... I'm going to see Queen with a singer. Not Robbie Williams with a band. Queen are MEGA-FAMOUS. Robbie is MEGA-FAMOUS. Paul Rodgers is KNOWN (in some countries). Two different mega-stars on one stage - that could never work. One megastar + one normal singer, that should work. |
deleted user 07.01.2005 10:19 |
I think it is better that they went with Paul Rodgers. For one thing, Paul Rodgers is who THEY wanted to tour with - perhaps they feel comfortable with the idea of performing with him and his style appeals to them. I also find it to be nice that Brian and Roger didn't pick their singer based on that singer's popularity and more so went with a singer who they thought it would be fun to tour with. |
Hildur. 07.01.2005 10:48 |
yeah maybe..i don't really know who paul rodger is. But Robbie is okay ;) |
radio_what's_new 07.01.2005 13:24 |
Let me say it one more time: Paul rodgers SUCKS |
Boy Thomas Raker 07.01.2005 14:24 |
Paul Rodgers may very well suck. However, he is very well respected as a MUSICIAN, something that Robbie will never have. Paul plays and creates his music, love it or hate it, and paid his dues as an artist. Robbie is a manufactured celebrity who can sing a little bit and "writes" Hallmark-style formulaic songs. Queen's credibility would've been destroyed if they toured with Freddie Wannabe Williams, because they would've looked like they wanted a new Freddie for the stage. I'm glad (apart from the naming issue) they picked a musician. |
Want To Live Forever 07.01.2005 22:04 |
Queen star JOHN DEACON says, "I don't want to be nasty, but Robbie is no Freddie Mercury. Freddie can never be replaced - and certainly not him." Source: link John said that, not me... |
Fenderek 08.01.2005 11:11 |
Mr. Scully wrote: I'm going to see Queen with a singer. Not Robbie Williams with a band.Apparently Robbie said : "I'd have killed for a chance to sing with those guys backing me. How cool would that have been? I sang WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS for a movie soundtrack and the band said I did a good job." BACKING ME...? Didn't I say sth about intelligence previously...? |
teddybear 09.01.2005 04:28 |
Robbie........BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! |
Paul Mark 09.01.2005 22:49 |
Perhaps we can expect a guest appearance at one of the shows?.... link |
