i know we've talkked about a lot of times but i bought a week ago and i didn't like it. yeah, freddie performance is superb but the director work is a shit cause he never put the cameras on rog or john..it seems a freddie mercury show.the stage is very small and the audience is cold. the second disc is quite disappointing and in those shows freddie can't reach a decent note |
gabriel79 06.01.2005 08:14 |
and when brian plays piano in save me they put the camera on freddie. disc two of live at wembley is much better in my humble opinion. i agree with "better live songs than interviews" but it depends from what songs.i really didin't want to listenfor the 1000000000times to aobtd o wwry/watc. |

That crowd is nasty! In my opinion Wembley is much better. |
Scirocco1977 06.01.2005 14:11 |
Wembley's had the big drawback that it has been so huge. Therefore, the audience is only audible if it really freaks out. I always found it annoying that the audience's reaction took so long (i.e. singing along or doing Freddie's daaaayyooo thingy). Milton Keynes stage was much closer to the crowd and hence it is much more easier to hear. I prefer that... |
brENsKi 06.01.2005 14:39 |
i diasgree with you i was at both wembley and milton keynes and at MK i managed to get about four body-widths from the front....and it was still a good 10 yards to hurl stuff at the Teardrop Explodes (yes i admit i was one of them - but I love Julian Cope's music now) the stage at wembley seemed no further away - perspective and distance-wise - if anything it may have been closer |
Scirocco1977 06.01.2005 14:48 |
Thanks Brenski for the information. Maybe I haven't been precise enough... Didn't Roger say something about the Wembley roar or something like that? The architecture of this place swallowed the noise of the crowd... at least that's what I gather from Roger's words. And I still feel that you can hear this on the record. Why then is the audience more direct at Milton Keynes. Since you have been on both occasions, maybe you can tell... |

The guitar solo was great. |
Las Palabras De Amor 06.01.2005 16:34 |
Yeah I just watched that. I could hardly see Brian May when he was talking to the audiance and same with Freddie's first entrance on the stage. They did get some good shots of Roger during Dragon Attack though. |
Scirocco1977 06.01.2005 17:04 |
Frankly, I think that the audience is better in MK. But I also thought of the bowl being an open place. Still, Wembley's audience has quite a delay, or am I simply deaf or stupid or both? I am in no way capable of describing sound waves, whether they are reflected at Wembley or not, but I always think of Roger stating that he saw bands at Wembley dying because the audience was not loud enough. |
brENsKi 06.01.2005 17:14 |
i think they maybe "miked" the audience at MK a little more "up in the mix" because of the bowl i remember looking back over the place and thinking how disjointed the crowd were....after the ten tousand or so crammed near the stage there appeared to be huge gaps - and many camped on the hills of the bowl and lit fires - much like we (my friends and i) did at port vale 81 (ozzy) and reading, donnington - fromthe official records i think there were close to 40k there at KM but to behonest - even "up front" in only sounded like about 10/15k you're right wembley did have a"roar" it's the shape of the place (as was) the noise would bounce back off the archetecture....the stupid shape of the place made sound travel up the stands to the back and then roll inside the roof before rebounding to the stage...listen to Live Aid - you can hear it again...and virtually eVERY footie match played ther...there is a delay to the action now knebworth on the other hand, that had genuine noise . i remember watching the earlier acts from further back - up towards the house past where all the food/bootleg sellers were and thinking -"christ this crowd really love it" it was only when you got down the front that the sound "dampened down a little" and sounded more realistic |

Queen onb fire live at the bowl is okay but isn't my favorite of Queen DVDs. In my opinion the best concerts out on both VHS and DVD format are, Live at Wembley, Live in Budapest, We Will Rock You. I know they had an audience of 40,000 at MK. One of my teachers went to that concert and was near the front row. He told me alot about that concert. |
brENsKi 06.01.2005 17:51 |
i wouldn't even recognise me now....had a couple of piss-poor photos that i took somewhere and they were awful believe me |

On Fire is awesome! Much better than WWRY. BTW, did Freddie have any pitch problems with his voice in the first songs of the DVD? BTW (version 2.0 hehehe) sorry to disappoint you, but We Will Rock You isn't "a concert", but "a couple of concerts splited as if they were only one concert". I don't mind on fire don't get me wrong but it's just not my favorite concert. I think it's because of the stage. I just can't stand the stage and whilst watching the DVD the big white lights annoy me. They make huge ping strips on the screen because they're so bright. It's a brilliant concert though it's just the DVD i'm not overly keen on. |

Yeah, those light streaks were very annoying. However, I quite enjoy the dvd now. It did take a while to get used to, and Brian's performance wasn't his best, but overall the music is great. The main problem was the mediocre camera job, and not getting enough footage of the others (WHO played the piano on Save Me? Hmmmm...?). But I love Freddie's sitting at the edge of the stage, and Brian's solo during Now I'm Here. It's also cute when Brian pops the sombrero off of Freddie's head. And I like the interviews! Brian could be funny? Who knew? Most interviews he seems so serious... but in the one w/ him and Roger they were making jokes and cracking themselves and eachother up. My favorite: RT: "So basically we see just as much of eachother as we always did... It's quite sickening actually-" BM: "Disgusting" |

I loved when the interviewer asked a question and they both pointed at the other in unison, and when Brian interrupted Roger and he just told him to shut up. ;) |

His always are. He struggles to find the words often and it's like the kid in Billy Madison. Freddie: And t-t-t-t-t-t- Me: TODAY, DEAD SINGER! Of course then Oliver Reed and Keith Moon come back to life and bash me to death with knives but dems da prices you pay. |

They show Rog and John alot. But you are gonna see Freddie and Brian more coz they are the singer and guitarist. You people just want summat to complain about. Little upstarts. |

The concert is the best '80's show I've ever seen. cheers, Dennis |

That is soooo cool!!!!! Finally people are talking about a C.D. i actually have. Yay!!!! I love this cd, its funny when freddie says something, like an itroduction to a song because he always ends up saying something funny. |

I don't know how anyone can say Live at the Bowl was better than WWRY. Maybe as an overall package, because of the extras, but the show on WWRY was ten times better. Fred was in much better voice. Better guitar solo. Cool drum solo. Somebody to Love was so much more powerful. Much better opening (Flash recorded/Hero is their worst opening ever. Let Me Entertain You is just a fantastic way to start a show. They both had Fast WWRY, which is OK.) The only thing Live at the Bowl has going for it compared to WWRY is the presence of Hot Space tracks. |

When Howard Stern(gag) had Brian on, he kept on insisting, "Now, you and Freddie were really the band, the rest of the guys you could have done w/out Right??? They weren't really that talented compared to you and Freddie" (those were his EXACT words) Brian got kind of pissed off but you know him... he tried to explain that this wasn't the case and Mr. Stern was like, "yeah whatever, Brian's just being modest folks". It's surprising how many non-fans think like this!Lord Blackadder wrote:They show Rog and John alot. But you are gonna see Freddie and Brian more coz they are the singer and guitarist. For the big crowd, Queen means "Freddie Mercury, the incredible singer, Brian May, the guy with curly hair and exclusive guitar, the blond drummer who looks like a girl and a furth guy who plays bass". Poor Roger and John. |

To me its more Freddie : The beautiful singer and entertainer. Brian: The handsome guitar player Roger: That gorgeous drummer. John: The cute and shy bassman but is still as special as all of them! I thought Live at the Bowl was a good concert. The crowd could have been a little more enthusiastic. But i think the Friday night Wembly concert was when Freddie was the most relaxed. (2nd disk) I mean, he even said he couldnt sing with snot up his nose :) I love extra features on the dvd where you can focus on who you want :) 4 guesses who i was lookin at :) |

Why would they be there if they werent their fans? I make sure i know every member's name and at least a little bit about them before I go to a concert. I am going to R.E.M soon and i dont even know how many members there are *shocked face* I am so rude!!!:) |

But the concert was broadcasted live, and was watched by many people who weren't Queen FANS, only people who liked good music. And the most of them only knew Freddie and Brian, so the two HAD to have more spotights, the TV network wanted audience! Slow day today. |

WWRY = two concerts mixed up. So they chase the best version of each song. And Freddie's voice was as powerful as the Superman near to Kriptonita. This concert is good, but Freddie was THOUSANDS times better in the MK concert! Brian was much better too, IMO.Freddie's voice cracked and strained at MK. The high notes sounded bad, especially in the beginning. It was not a terribly good vocal performace. Roger's voice sounded better on the WWRY DVD as well. Compare his backing vocals on "Somebody to Love." Brian and John were about the same as they usually are. But Brian's solo in the WWRY DVD was much more interesting, I think. |
Panza Pedraza - FER 08.01.2005 02:11 |
Well, if the critic is that Freddie's voice cracked in some moments, Live at Wembley is Freddie cracking everytime and not able to reach the high notes as he did in Montreal and in major parts of MK. Yes, it's true that Freddie's voice maybe suffered a bit at MK bowl, but it was the final part of European Leg. Wembley, for instance, was the middle part of the tour and Fred's voice was certainly not better than Milton Keynes gig, and WWRY was an "isolated" gig so his voice was in better shape. By the way, i have the bootleg of MK, and the crowd sounds louder than the official release, highlight of the bootleg is the poeple doing the "oohhh" choruses in fat bottomed girls. |
