Some time ago, I heard on the grape vine that Roger was once in the record books as the highest endurance drummer.
Can anybody confirm this? and if it's true, what was the challenge that Roger took on to acheive that record?
QUEEN'S ROGER TAYLOR SETS NEW WORLD RECORD LARGEST EXCLUSIVE ONLINE CONCERT
Queen band member Roger Taylor last night succeeded in his attempt to set a world record for the biggest internet audience reached through an exclusive online concert...
Taylor's live performance, promoted by some of the largest websites in the world, achieved a record 500 hits per second throughout its 45 minutes duration.
Unfortunately, this has since been broken by both Paul McCartney, and latterly by U2. Therefore, Roger no longer holds this record.
No - thats not the record I was talking about - I knew about that one.
Roger was supposedly in the record books many years before that for endurance drumming (or something like that).
Is this true?
I think that I once read in a studio report in a music magazine that it had been tested how exact he plays a beat. It was found out that he deviated only fractions of a second in a longer space of time from the beat - so he was/is almost as precise as a metronome. Don't know the exact numbers and I don't think it was for the Guiness book. From my memory I think it was just measured for fun.
The endurance drumming record was held by a different Roger Taylor.
Phil Duke broke the record in '91 for Children In Need (41 hours non-stop) then broken again by Phil Sweeney (59.5 hours non-stop) last year. It's now held by Arulanantham Suresh Joachim from Australia with 84 hours.
