Who here likes these J-POP (Japanese Pop music) stars? If so, what are your favourite songs from these singers? Mine are "Dearest" (Ayumi) and "Come"/"toi et moi" (Namie - tied) |

i'm so sorry, inu yasha.am here in japan but i don't like their female artists............................ .........te o toriatte........... |
MetzgerR 05.01.2005 19:30 |
Well, if for no other reason than his awesome looks, you've got to include Gackt! And I actually like Ayu and Utada Hikaru when I'm in a really bubbly, pop-y mood. I like Hanabi and Vogue by Utada Hikaru, and pretty much everything by Ayu. There's also this one song by some girl whose name I can't remember...I can't remember the title either. But there's this one line that keeps getting stuck in my head: "Daitan ni ikimashou...[insert a few more syllables of Japanese]...Heart and Soul" Do you know who that could be by? Denki Denki! Judy |
Mr.Jingles 05.01.2005 19:47 |
X Japan has been the only Japanese thing I've ever listened to. 'Endless Rain' is an awesome song, but most of their material sounds too 80s hard rock cliche. |

...heart nd soul,i don't know.. ...ya.xjapan a rock band,,, ...gackt..nice face ...utada..nice voice >>>>>QUEEN,WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS<<<< |

I know Utada Hikaru (her music's weird, IMO), and X Japan (because of the fact Yoshiki worked with Roger Taylor in 1994 on "Foreign Sand" and the re-make of "Final Destination", the latter which I really like!). Is Ayu short for 'Ayumi Hamasaki'? |

By the way, livingonmyown: Genki deska? |

One of my friends had me listen to a song - I wish I could remember what it was - by a group I think she called "L'arc Un Ciel" or something very similar...since I know it was in Japanese, maybe someone here has heard of the group? Are they any good? The song was interesting, but I can't recall enough of it to decide if I want to find/purchase something by them! Denki denki! Judy |
LivingGirl 06.01.2005 19:02 |

Arigato gozaimasu! I sort of am learning Japanese. Not studying as much. I watch tons of anime imports from your country, so I am picking up on words and phrases at times, e.g. "Ranma no baka!" (just for fun :), "Aishiteru", "Doshite?", "Nani / nanda?", etc. I also know a lot of suffixes that are used at the end of a person's name, eg. Richard Orchard to me would be "Orchard-san" I wish I were taking a proper class to learn Japanese, but I'm not at the moment :( I'm learning Spanish though at the moment, so that's enough of a workload for me (and I know more than quite a bit of it now!) |

Hey livingonmyown, I have a question for you. There's been something that's been bugging me for a long time. When I try to write my name, Richard Guilbault, in katakana, I come across an issue that I don't know how to solve. How I would try to write it is based on the English pronounciation for my name, which in romanized Japanese phonetics would be written, for the first name, as either: Riichaado or Riichaadu I'm confused on the last part, the "do" or "du". My question is, which character would I use for the last two letters of my name? Do I use "do" or "du"? Personally, I like the pronounciation with "do", but I feel that it's not a true way to write it in Japanese. With "du", I have the exact opposite problem; I don't like the sound, but I think it is more proper in terms of spelling. What would you suggest? Also, I have a worse time trying to figure out my last name when I try to write it. Phonetically, my last name, Guilbault, is literally pronounced as "gill-bowl", as in 'fish gills', and 'cereal bowl'. The "t" is silent in this pronounciation (there are other slightly different pronounciations, all of which annoy me when I hear them, so for me this one is the proper pronounciation. It is a French name, that's why). How would I write Guilbault in katakana when I go by phonetics? Would I write it as guiirubou? Or do I write it as giirubooto? (I'm indifferent to the "t" part) You know more than I do, so that's why I'm asking you. Your help and advice would be much greatly be appreciated! |

RICHYADO GIRUBARU if it is silent 't' but if w/ 't'>Girubaruto BTW,where are You using it?I wanted to know in case I ever do get to move to Japan and teach English in the future like I want to. This way, as I still want to learn Japanese, I will be able to write my name in katakana at least if people there asked how I spell my name in katakana. I'm pretty sure the answer is 'no' to this one, but there aren't any kanji characters I could use to write my name in, are there? Also, I have a question. In some subtitled anime shows I watch, I read people introducing themselves with a 'no' in-between their first and last (or last and first) names. For example, Takahashi no Hikaru (I made that one up, for this example, so you could see what I mean) What does this mean? Does it indicate that they have an honourable position in Japanese society? Or is it something applied to people from old written Japanese history? |

InuYasha, your name can be ritten in jap.characters but it's very hard.Usually,non-jap names are written in katakana, though it will be long. -no- is use when introducing yourself using your company. For ex. >Watashi wa Queenzone no InuYasha desu< It's nice to teach English here and you"ll learn a lot abt animes |

Sadly enough, the only two sentences I can speak in Japanese are: "Watashi wa Richyado Girubaru desu" and "Anata no ai wa PARADAISU" I am heavily into a lot of anime shows as it is! And if I can learn Japanese and understand it well enough, that would possibly eliminate the need for Internet fansubs (for myself anyways)! The animes I watch or have watched, and you may be familiar with some of them, include (along with my commentary): Aishiteru ze Baby (does this mean "I Love You, Baby"?) Battle Angel OAV Chobits FLCL OAV (very weird, this one!) Inu Yasha (of course) Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (what does this mean, lomo?) Maburaho Mahoromatic Pocket Monsters Ranma 1/2 (Ranma Ichi no Nibun) Urusei Yatsura ...and a few more I can't remember the titles to at the moment And my favourite anime movies include: Escaflowne: A Girl In Gaia Grave Of The Fireflies Millenium Actress Pokemon: Jirachi Wish Maker (the 6th movie) Urusei Yatsura 5: Girl Meets Boy (aka The Final Chapter (US title)) and possibly a few more! What are your favourite anime movies, livingonmyown? |
