IF this has been said before i apologise but havind had the privelige of "on fire" for xmas and having heard other live tracks the versions off the hot space album sound much better live than the original, for example staying power and backchat sound much more suited sounding like it does on stage. Anyone got thier opinions on this? |
Farlander 03.01.2005 10:30 |
I think they definately sounded better on the album. Especially Staying Power. |
The Mir@cle 03.01.2005 10:33 |
It's because of the DTS I think.. |

I like staying power live more than the album version. I don't know why. I think it's the guitar. |
Lord Blackadder 03.01.2005 11:38 |
And Action This Day. |
deleted user 03.01.2005 11:42 |
Yeah and Action This Day. To be honest i do prefer Staying Power and Action This Day live to the studio versions. |
Awesome-O _4000 03.01.2005 12:41 |
I do enjoy the live versions very much, yes. Especially the solo on Back Chat. More than the album? probably, but then I myself prefer live feel anyway. |

I just love Action This Day and Back Chat live |
yellownymph 03.01.2005 13:13 |
Yeah all Hot Space tracks sound brilliant live and did anyone notice on the Live at the Bowl concert Freddie sings a line of Backchat wrong? He says 'walking in your sleep' instead of 'talking in your sleep.' Ha Ha. Please correct me if I've got this wrong but I'm sure that's what he says. |
Zander05 03.01.2005 13:17 |
Staying Power is definately better live, I think. I just think it sounds better with a faster tempo. |
Sebastian 03.01.2005 16:51 |
Action sounds nice with real bass and the big ending. Have you noticed that for the three Roger's songs they did the same thing? Studio version fading out live version finishing on sustained vocals and resolution ("this woooooooold is using me", "loooooooooooooves you", "will soon be doooooooooooone"). Staying Power I prefer live as well, more guitar from John, more guitar from Brian, plus the harmonies of Roger & Brian are nice. Body Language & Calling All Girls have a better sound with Roger singing harmonies. Put Out The Fire I prefer in studio, better harmonies (much more powerful, for obvious reasons) and the cracking solo. I also prefer Under Pressure in the studio, with Fred hitting the high A and David's voice, plus the double tracked guitars and the piano bit. Back Chat sounds better imo with the complete ending instead of a lame fade out, Life Is Real.. never payed much attention to that one live. |

on the topic of another album, I personally prefer the hard rock live feel of SHA as opposed to the punk feel of the NOTW version |
Awesome-O _4000 03.01.2005 18:04 |
What about It's Late? that wasn't punk. And anyway, I kindof like punk so I must disagree. |

I've never liked electric drums but to be honest i quite like the electric drums in the middle of Back Chat live. I think it fits it with Back Chat because it's kinda poppy. |

Please correct me if I've got this wrong but I'm sure that's what he says.I don't think Freddie was bothered about the lyrics to the songs! In Play The Game, instead of "it's your life", he sang "it's your bloody life", and in somebody to love he also added "bloody" - "everyday of my bloody life". He changed "you made a bad boy outta me" to "you made an asshole outta me" aswell! (Fat Bottomed Girls) I think he was just having fun! |
Awesome-O _4000 03.01.2005 18:56 |
Yeah dust-biter, I agree. Actually he did that alot you know? It always irked me how he would sing "blue and misty morn" instead of "blue and sunny morn", but I'll live =) |
Awesome-O _4000 03.01.2005 18:57 |
And yeah, I like the electric drums on Back Chat, although the guitar solo's the best. |
deleted user 03.01.2005 19:10 |
Yeah i love the solo too. It's one of my favorite solos it's absolutely excellent. |

Definitely! Who knew Brian could pull that off like he did, you know, great guitar on a "funk/black" song. I was impressed. Same here. It is such a brilliant solo though. I wish i could play like Brian. In fact i might go and get the tabs for that now to learn later on in the week. |

What is "Body language live" like?, i never heard it. Does anybody knows a page where i can download it? |
Awesome-O _4000 03.01.2005 20:19 |
why would you WANT to??? |
Farlander 03.01.2005 20:56 |
Heh, indeed. That MUST be the worst track on the album. I will never understand how that wound up on the U.S. Greatest Hits album. |
Panza Pedraza - FER 03.01.2005 23:12 |
Well, i want to listen Body Language live, cos i have the hope that this version would be better that the studio version |
AllDeadAllDead 04.01.2005 04:34 |
i think its actually a great song, and far a head of its time, as far as slow tempod dance tracks go. that bass line is wicked! |
don't_stop_me_now 9697 04.01.2005 05:34 |
It it also great when John does the guitar solo in Back Chat. |
deleted user 04.01.2005 08:04 |
Quite alot of stuff goes wrong in Live At The Bowl too. Apart from Freddie changing various lines, Brian's lead comes out of his guitar during his solo, and John trips over a wire during Under Pressure! It's still a great show though... |
deleted user 04.01.2005 17:43 |
I've heard Body Language live. I think it's better than the original. I can't stand the original but funnily enough i quite like it live. |
Ozzy Queen 04.01.2005 19:43 |
I think that 'live at the bowl' is one of their best concerts. I love 'action this day'. Anyone agree? |
Panza Pedraza - FER 04.01.2005 22:44 |
I agree |
Bizon 05.01.2005 07:03 |
all tracks played live from HS sound a way better than the studio versions.. esp. back chat, staying power and action this day.. body language is also quite good live... haven't heard life is real live yet... |
Russian Headlong 05.01.2005 18:10 |
Hot space is a terrible album. Queen were always essentially a hard rock band who liked to experiment but the dance pap on hot space is awful. The tracks sound better live because Brian was not tied down and his guitar took over from synths and the drums are real not drum machines. GA GA and Break Free from the works sounded better live too when they were rocked off. btw Love Kills rock mix is amazing should have been on made in heaven/ |
quackman 05.01.2005 22:05 |
Hmm... I just realized in Under Pressure on like... the third or so "do do do do do do doo"'s of the song john hits the wrong last note. |

I believe that the Hot Space songs were much better live than in the studio. My favorite live Hot Space song was Action This Day song by Roger. This was a nice change from I'm In Love With My Car that he probably did hundreds of times in previous tours. |
