I know this could possibly be in the personal section..and Im 100% sure its been done before. But with new members joining all the time...I just thought it could be done at a more interesting slant. I got into queen towards the tail end of 1999. There was a documentary on them on channel 4. I watched it and thought...jeez...they've done alot of songs I've heard played around various places. Then for christmas I got the 3 Greatest Hits, and a week later Innuendo. I was pretty satisified with that as a tally. my parents were both queen fans at various points. my mum once told me she had Jazz on vinyl, and my dad always points out how him and Freddie were born on the exact same day.My now sadly deceased grandad, had a copy of GH1 in his car. My half sister got to see them live, and because of connections she had, go to meet Freddie backstage...I think she was awestuck, he said "Hello Darling" though. when I first got into queen, I was in yr7 of high school(11-12 age group), and I got alot of stick. at this age the average fellow classmates musical taste was about as original as any of the UK top 10 singles chart, so they couldnt understand why. Then in yr9, when one person attempted to out me as gay, listening to queen was one of the pieces of evidence used against me...ffs.lol. Queen music inspires me, it inspires me every single day. I own GH1,2,3. Hot Space, A Kind Of Magic,The Miracle,Innuendo, and Made in Heaven. I love loads of other artists, such as Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne,Grandmaster Flash,New Order, Prince etc. But if I listen to a queen album, then one of their albums...they just seem so inferior. Take Greatest Hits 2 for example...an album which takes it place in the rare category of Nah...I dont think I'll skip any track. Life encompassing a whole range of emotions, and Queen music represents that. You dont just want gritty downbeat depressing songs, but at the same time you dont always want upbeat happy songs. Just as sometimes you want a song which conveys the feeling of anonymity, mininalism, and peace, yet at the same time sometimes you want something which says, This is me, Look at me, I'm proud of who I am, and I want all the world to know that. With Queen, you get it all sorry if people think this a crap post but I just thought I'd open up a bit. i'd be interested if other people respond:) |

Sorry about your granddad. I got into Queen through my mother and my cousin. My mother was a Queen fan for a long time (I have NO IDEA how long though), so I used to hear them all the time (and, really, I did like them and could recognize their songs), but when I went to my cousin's house for the first time, I must have been nine or ten, the only music he would play was Queen. Of course, after hearing them almost non-stop for four days kind of got me irritated, but I have been an even bigger fan since then. So thank him, he's the one that really got me into Queen. My sister and I think that his favorite song had to be either "Bicycle Race" or "Fat Bottomed Girls." |

When i was a baby my dad played thier videos to me and that's basically how i got into them. Apparantly by the time i was around the age of 1/2 a year i knew how to work the video player and played the videos over and over again. I was born in may 1990 and have probably liked Queen since around July 1990. I can actually remember back to that age sitting down watching Your My Best Friend video and thinking they were all girls! By the time i was 3 i knew they wern't though. |

I have to thank my brother for me discovering Queen. I remember one Sunday my older brother suddenly came up with the idea of getting the Platinum Collection. Me, my older sister and my brother went on a site to hear some sound clips. I don't think I recognized many of them, but we thought about getting it. Then one day, my Dad got it in a shop while we were in the dentists. We played it when we got home, I thought it sounded really different to other stuff. I really liked all 3 of the Greatest Hits. But I think I like Greatest Hits 2 the most now. Now I also have A Day at the races, News of the World, The Game, Hot Space, A Kind of Magic, The Miracle, Innuendo, Made In Heaven and Live at Wembly all on cd. I also have some videos and DVDs. |

For March of the Dirt Queen. I don't like boy bands, but one of my friends likes Blue! I said to her that I think bands should write songs and play instruments, because it sort of shows that they are lazy and other people are making music for them! |

When I was little I grew up on listening to oldies (my mum has a huge collection of cds from various rock legends) like The Who, Meatloaf, Queen, The Beatles, The Monkees, Elton John, Reo Speedwagon, Styx, and much more. Then I just liked Queen the most and became addicted to them and started to collect their cds and do research on them. |

By 3 months, a baby who's placed on her stomach will be able to lift his head and chest up 2.Between 5 to 7 months she'll start sitting on her own, which eventually leads to crawling. 3. A 9 month-old also plays more actively with toys, exploring them less with the mouth, and more with the hands. ... so, you knew how to work the video player at an age when most babies couldn't even crawl? and at two months old (3 months before the human body can possibly develop enough muscle power) you were sitting up watching Tv?....and at the same time you have enough cognotive powers to actually think "they were girls" ??? do me a favour.....pulllease |

Whether i was sitting up whilst watching them or lying forward watching them i don't know. I've just picked up info from my parents. I don't remember thinking they were girls till i was around the age of 2. I remember when i was about 3 my dad taking me to the pub and whilst there i used to draw pictures of Queen and my dad used to play Bo Rhap on thier juke box. I can remember as far back as that. The rest is just info i've picked up from my parents. By the age of 6 months when i knew how to work the recorder i don't think i knew any more than the play and rewind button. |

I bought my dad Greatest Flix on VHS at the end of 2002. I'd always beeen aware of the most popular songs but the video got me hooked and almost instantly Freddie was my hero. About the same time I was doing A level PE and had to make up a dance. My PE teacher was a huge QUeen fan so I thought it could improve my chances by using a Queen song, so I used The Invisible Man (bad choice I know) but it was cool to dance to. My obsession grew and grew, Ive got all the albums on CD except for any live ones and Flash Gordon, but which one should I buy next? |

I got into queen by my dad when i was about 3 years old one of my first memories was listening to bo rhap my dad used to play it and that was in 1978 so you can guess how old i am, also my uncle had a few queen albums anato, notw, jazz and a few singles and i just grew up being influenced by my family.I've been a fan for at least 22 years and through the years got all the albums and singles and books and been totally convinced this band are UNIQUE and A ONE OFF never will there be another queen. QUEEN FOREVER. |

My parents listen to a lot of classic rock, well, my mom loves the Moody Blues, and my dad listens to Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, ELO, Jimmy Biffet, just about anything you could think of, really. Well, except for Queen, he thinks homosexuality should be a crime punishable by torture and eventual death. So I pretty much discovered Queen on my own. The radio stations my parents listen to played WWRY, WATC, Killer Queen, and Bo Rhap a lot. I remember listening to Bohemian Rhapsody when I was about 3, of course I didn't know it was Bo Rhap, but I always really loved the ballad part. I always thought that the opera bit was a bunch of girls singing, it actually never occured to me that both parts are in the same song. I was a massive Beatles fan when I started to like Queen, I just felt random and picked up ANATO in the record store one day and fell in love. I'm so sentimental, LOL! |

WELL YOU were obviously incredibly advanced for your age!!! what went wrong? are you telling us that after that extremely intelligent start to life you wasted your talent? ...and you're not working in research or medicine? what happened to you? operating vcrs at 6mths, and at 2mths you knew you liked queen...most abbies can only focus 4-6 feet at 2 mths and even then for only a few seconds at a time...amazing |

Oh. When i was 2 months i didn't know queen i just liked the music and i couldn't operate recorders. I only knew the play button and rewind button on ours at six months. I rarely touched the recorder anyway. I used to be very close to the telly in a little baby chair that i could move from. I was right in front of the recorder so didn't have to mopve far at all to touch any buttons on it. All this info comes from my parents so i know it's true. Apparantly i couldn't crawl at 6 months but could just about crawl sometimes. So when i was near the recorder i just had to move a little to the right or something stupid like that and touch the play button. I don't actually think i could push the play button in properly at that age i was to weak! |

Queen was the first band I really listened to as a little kid. I liked Kiss when I was in grade one, but that's because they looked liked superheroes, but Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, WWRY/WATC, Fat Bottomed Girls and Crazy Little Thing Called Love really stood out musically. The first concert I ever wanted to go to was the Hot Space Tour (unfortunately it was the last time they toured Canada and I didn't have any older brothers to take me). As I got into prog rock bands like Genesis, I kind of forgot about Queen until Freddie's performance at Live Aid brought me back in a big way. The Queen catalog was difficult to find, so I taped the albums of friends' older brothers and later ordered CD's from England. I have an album cover hanging in my office that Brian May autographed for me when I met him at a Toronto HMV. I was definitely the only Queen fan in my high school. I'm 35 now and I still listen to Queen all the time. My 3 year-old daughter's favorite song is WWRY. I'm so proud! I recently produced and published my own children's picture book and in the credits I thanked Brian May and Queen. A couple of months after it's release I emailed Brian to send him a copy as a thank you. He replied the very next day. |

I've always heard bits and pieces of Queen while growing up, but I think I could call myself a fan at the age of 8 when I got a tape player for Christmas. With it came my uncle's copy of Greatest Hits (the American one with Keep Yourself Alive on it). I mastered Bohemian Rhapsody at the age of 9... and then my tape got eaten and my dad insisted I throw it away :-( But for my 10th birthday, my friend Jenni bought me Classic Queen and News Of The World. Since then, I have been a collector. I now own all their albums, am currently working on new releases and imports, and I am proud to say that at the age of 12, I stood within five feet of Brian May (he was on his way home from siging autographs - I got two REALLY good pictures but my dad threw them out *the bastard*). My uncle, being the cool guy he is, also made me picture frames (4 that look like the front cover of Hot Space, and one bigger one of Freddie). I'll post pictures on my site, so stay tuned to that. |

I remember hearing in the news when i was 6 of someone who had died of AIDS a day after they announced it. I really didnt know who it was. Shortly after i remember hearing bo rhap and that was when i got addicted to queen. I believe it was when bo rhap was re-realesed after freddie's death. I really didnt know where to buy cassettes or records since there werent any near my house and i was too small to go to the mall to the record stores there, so i remember going to a neighbors house with my parents and i saw they had a copy of ANATO on cassette on top of theyre stereo. When my parents and the neighbors went to the back yard i went inside to "go to the restroom" and i stole the cassette. this was my first album of queen but not my last. |

When I was 4 years old my parents had a cassette of greatest hits I. We listened to it all time when we were driving in our car on holiday. A few years later a friend told me he had a great cd. That album was greatest hits I. We listened to it all the time and I started to like Queen more and more. My dad told me that he also had "A night at the opera" and "Sheer heart attack" on LP :D . Then I bought "news of the world" and "A day at the races" on cd. Later my uncle told me that he had al lot of LP's of Queen. One of them was "Queen I" original from 1973. I don't think many people have this album on LP of that year. For my birthday I got "Live killers" and "Greatest hits I VSH". From that point I called myself a fan. Now in 2005 I have a lot of stuff of them. All the albums, 2 books, 3 dvd's, 4 VHS (also the miracle) and a calendar and a lot more. :D |

Hello!!! It is really hard to say how... When I was 6 years old my brother gave me casette on wich was the song "One year of love".... I heard Freddie's impresious voice, Brian's fantastic solo guitar, Roger's excelent drums and John's interesting bas and I said "This is good"... From then I heard a lot of groups but they are the legends... One and only... This is how I started.... Now im 15 and I'm still crazy about them.... It's not a stupid question... I like it... Cheers! |

My friend discovered them. Then while round her house last summer, she showed me all the videos she had. Before that I didn't even know who they were, and at first I thought Freddie was scary. It took me a while to get into them, but since then I have bought A Night At The Opera, Live At Wembley, The Platinum Collection, The Game, Innuendo and The Works. I am likely to have all of their albums and more by next summer. It's true - with Queen you certainly do get it all! |

I found the ANATO CD while browsing trough my dad's CD's and started listen to it. And my friend got the GH1 and we just fell in love with those CD's. There was a strike in my school and I didn't go to school for 6 weeks and I had to find something to do!! So I just started to read some texts, news, webside etc. about Queen and then I became A FAN!! And I will always be a Queenfan, not like the other times I fancied a band.. |

I had been listening to mostly just popular music before I discovered Queen and got so bored with it. So I asked my mom for some suggestions of what to download and listen to, and she told me Don't Try Suicide, since that had been her favorite song off The Game when it had been released. I downloaded that, Killer Queen and It's A Beautiful Day and loved them, so then I got the Platinum Collection for the holidays. I actually didn't hear Bohemian Rhapsody for the first time until I got those CDs! And my uncle works at Disney, so he had gotten the Crown Jewels and gave it to me. My favorite at the time was The Game and it actually did take a little while for me to warm up to the rest of the albums, but I did, and since then, I've been collecting everything I could get my hands on! |

I have only been a big Queen fan for a year and a half now. Last summer my dad gave my mom Queen's Greatest Hits, the Hollywood one. Then one day I went out on our boat to lay outside, and took it with me. I didn't know much about Queen then, but listened to the whole cd because I was too lazy to get my own from inside the house. It was then when I realized what I had been missing, and I have'nt looked back since. |

Well, I've been a fan of oldies/past music (since Queen really isn't that old) all my life; my first love was the Beatles, starting back when I was 5...but then I succumbed to peer pressure and got into pop, yadda yadda yadda. But then I was in a music store just browsing around one day, and saw the only Queen CD they had...the purple greatest hits. I had only known them for BoRhap, WWRY and We Are The Champions, but I decided to give it a try since I loved all those songs. I only had that CD until 2 months ago when I saw the play WWRY in Las Vegas. I fell in love with the emotion and beauty of the songs, even though it wasn't even Fred singing them! I proceeded to get ANATO as soon as I got back from LV, and now I have the Live At Wembley CDs and DVDs, Sheer Heart Attack, and A Day at The Races. Now...I don't listen to anything else. Granted, all my other CDs were stolen recently, but I wouldn't want to listen to them because it's just...not as good. And that's my rather uninteresting story. :) |

First time I can remember hearing them and liking a song was when Flash was in the charts. I was 6. Then when I was 10 I heard Hammer to Fall and thought these kick ass. Heard A kind of Magic when I was 12 and thought it was the best song I'd ever heard. I still wasn't really into music at that stage. I woke up to music when I heard One Vision on a compilation my uncle had shorlty after. Then, in 87, after hearing Dont Stop me Now on a TV ad for Club Orange, I couldn't resist any more and bought The greatest hits. |

A lot of youngsters in this forum. Personally I was brought up listening to groups like Deep Purple and Queen and so I kind of became hooked over many years of listening to my parents choice of music. Reading many of your posts, I find it interesting that the majority here seem to like the later albums and the Greatest hits disks. These are all great, but for me, the following applies: 1. The Prophet Song was better than Bo Rhap (See Night at the Opera) 2. Queen II was their best album. 3. Fairy Fellers Master stroke is great to listen too whilst veiwing the picture that inspired it. 4. Queen was a band made up of 4 incredible musicians, not just Freddie Mercury. Take any one of them away and Queen would not have worked. 5. Dilyla (Spelling?) was nauseating. 6. Tenement Funster was just brilliant! |

Hello to all! I started listening to queen a few years ago, my mom had the greatest hits cds, and I loved them! I was especially fond of freddie's voice and the fact that they wrote all their own songs. I soon started buying more of their cds, and I now have gh 1, 2, and 3, queen ll, sheer heart attack, a night at the opera, news of the world, the game, jazz, hot space, innuendo, and a day at the races. I loved queen so much that I also bought tons of live dvds, posters, and books about them. Queen is definitely the best band ever, and I listen to their cds everyday. |

Maybe I'm too old, but I was 13th or 14th and I was listened to the radio (I had no hi-fi or 33's player even then for me) Bohemian Rhapsody, a "new" song from a unknown band and I remember that when it was over I stood confused about that song but it was amazing for me. I don't know if it was in 1975 or '76.No matey you aint too old-I was 16 when Bo Rhap first came out!! Theres nothing wrong with some of us oldies joining in: 1) I don't think the young ones mind 2)We still have things to say that may be relevant to anything Queen related. Me I got 'into' them when I saw them as support to Mott the Hoople-no I never looked back, stunned, knocked out, very impressed any superlative you care to use. Unlike some poster's who were influenced by their parents mine just thought I'd gone 'funny' because the pictures of Queen were a bit different (the err make up + clothes probably influenced their thoughts)-to the Led Zepp and Alice posters that were up. But hey welcome to the 'Grey Queenies club' he! he! he! |

It actually started with that annoying Mountain Dew commercial (I see a little silhouetto of a can) that actually stuck in my head, and then I learned the band who originally sang that also sang WWRY and WATC, and ANOBTD I started listening to more of their music, Killer Queen comes as an example. and from there, I've been a fan ever since |

was reading the newspaper, around 16 years old( always read the comic's since I was about 12) and the entertainment section had like a half page side bar before the comics with dear abby and other stuff like that, which are interesting reads as well. I seen a small topic with a picture of Freddie from the mid 70's, saying a well known flamboyant rock star who has been a recluse for the past few years died of AIDS, showed my mom and she knew most of the songs, this was when waynes world was out and bo rhap was getting playtime, so I stole "classic queen" from a store me and my friend would always steal candy, porno mags and cd's from, hey I was no angel, lol would play that CD while playing nintendo and super nintendo games during my xmas break and till the tribute concert, which got me hook with all the songs they played that I never knew Queen made. the MTV and VH1 add bits of freddie and queen live were enough to get me hooked. I still have the Colorado TV guide for the week with Freddie on the cover, something I never seen any where else. |

I had a crush on this guy, and found out that he listened to Queen. So I thought, why don't I impress him by listening to it. After that I got my hands on a Queen CD and found myself listening to it every day. |

Mm well I was pretty intrested when I saw a dedication to them on "I love the 70s" a program on vh1. But the first time I listened to the beginning of Bo Rhap ( I remember clearly one friday my friend let me borrow his copy of Greatest Video Hits 1 ) I was drooling. I was automatically hooked. But it's weird now because I really got intrested in their stuff in the 80s afterwards and listening to their early stuff again for the first time in a while they sounded like a completely different band. But awesome no matter what era. :) |

I got into Queen because my mom told me about this song called, Bohemian Rhapsody. At the time I was just into classical, and she told me that this weird 70's song had elements of opera in it. So I was intrigued. Mom isn't really a Queen fan though. NOT AT ALL. She's totally uneducated and biased about them. She assumed they were all dead of AIDS. Idiotic! Sorry ma... But anyway, I found out who made this incredible song... Queen. And I listened and I liked it. And the story goes on from there. A few friends of mine gave me some hassle about Mercury being gay. I don't give a fuck, I am too. And I know you're thinking, "Great, another guy who likes Queen because he's gay and he thinks the music is gay." Well, no. That's simply not the case. In the same way that Mercury was an incredible rock singer who happened to be gay, I am an incredible fan who happens to be gay... so there! :P. But really, no hard feelings. Love you all. Love you Freddie!~Another lifetime maybe, darling. |

I got into queen when i saw the musical wwry. Mum and dad were going and they asked if i wanted to go too. I actually considered not going but i didnt mind the few queen songs i had heard and i knew that since ben elton wrote the script that even if i didnt like the music, it would be funny. So seeing it got me into their more well known stuff but then a few weeks ago i started listening to more of their music and i realised just how great they are. And now my friends think i'm obsessed even though i'm nothing compared to most of the other people on this board! |

As a kid I used to listen on the radio to the normal rock stuff:The Beatles, Chicago ,Kiss,a bit of Zeppelin (not my favourite then) etc.One day they played "Bohemian Rhapsody" and I assumed the group should be a ghospel one, but, come on...on the radio?Taht was not common...Well, the song kept coming to my mind for some time.Whenever I listened to it, it was a breathtaking experience, the voices and the rich chorus, "the guitar", everything!!!! The original and exquisit mixture , kind of opera and rock, softness and energy...wow!!!It was pure magic, really (at least to me). Then one day the t.v. was on ,in the distance I could hear "the song", yes, it was "Bohemian Rapsody"...so I rushed to the t.v. and there, just before my eyes were ladies and gentlement to my astonishment, not a group of gifted ghospel singers (who are wonderful as well), but a magnificent powerful and creative band:QUEEN.It was not the image I had pictured on my mind when I heard the song. And I am glad that is their music what still moves me, what still gets into my heart no matter how many different kinds of music I listen to.Sometimes I play some other group or singer day and night ,but I always come back to Queen. It's like feeling at home. They are still "the group" and so dear to me. I owe them a lot. They are and will always be in my heart. |

First time I heard about Queen when they played on Magic tour in 1986 (I was 8 years old). 4 years later I became a big Queen fan thanks to my friend at school. My first album was A Kind of Magic and then new Innuendo. I had some songs from my friend too. I do not like other bands and singers. I only always loved Queen. My parents were not Queen fans. |

Hi Stephen, it seems your first word was Queen or Freddie! I think you were interested in other things than watching and listening to Queen! |

After seeing We Will Rock You musical. I knew Bohemian Rhapsody, Under Pressure, You're My Best Friend, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Somebody To Love, I'm Going Slightly Mad and These Are The Days Of Our Lives, but I wasn't really mad on them songs and never realised how brilliant they were until I saw the musical. And if it didn't feature No-One But You (Only The Good Die Young), I woudn't have liked Queen at all. |
