Hi. I was wondering whether any of you have noticed this aswell. On disc 2 of GVH2 if you go to the miracle interviews at the very end of the interviews when the screen goes blank it plays 3 seconds of Cillas Goodbye To The Eighties and then stops and goes to the main screen. Do you think the goodbye to the eighties was gonna be put on there as one of the extras and then was taken off for some reason. Is this the same on your GVH2 DVD? Sorry if this has been a topic before. Happy new year. thanks, Stephen. |

This was discussed after the release of GVH2. |

Disc 1: I Want To Break Free - the picture twitches The Invisible Man - the picture twitches Hammer To Fall - the guys looks too thin even in 16:9 |

Yes, this has been discussed before. I hope that thread still exists and hasn't been deleted. As for the goodbye to the 80's thing: I've found that this can happen to my own dvd making process. It's not bad editing, it's simply misbehaving software processing. I've processed videos where I cut off the footage before it appears/sounds. But sometimes a small bit still appears on the final render. It's very unpredictable. And yes, the Hammer To Fall video is badly processed. Somebody stretched that one out incorrectly. Peace, Adam. |

The Calling All Girls and Back Chat videos on my copy are kind of glitchy. |

Did Queen appear in person on this Cilla show? |
deleted user 02.01.2005 13:34 |
Yes they did appear in the Cilla show. Freddie didn't say anything though it was just Brian that did all the talking. |
Zander05 02.01.2005 15:10 |
Yeah when I play the Hot Space videos, the opening screens to Calling All Girls and Back Chat sort of freeze up and the sound gets skippy in the intros. |

The reason for the twitchiness in the "I Want To Break Free" and "The Invisible Man" videos is because they were obviously re-encoded twice with different settings at least, up to and including the DVD master version. Reason being is because the Top A Field option was used when re-encoding a Top (or Lower?) B Field encoded video. Basically, in English: it's all down to different interlacing fields from multiple encodings clashing with each other. These flickers therefore are only 'visible' on an interlaced TV; progressive TV's should not have a problem with this, as they do not obviously display the video in an interlaced form (NTSC TV's are notorious for the constant bad quality they're known for because of the interlaced properties, for one thing - there are only 525 lines of resolution on NTSC TV's (for full frame TVs anyways) and videos, whereas PAL TV systems have 625 lines, so I don't think that the flickers are as noticable on the PAL TVs as they are on the NTSC TVs when watching this DVD - I could be wrong) Don't take my word for it, as I am not quite a full expert on video products and stuff (I'm still trying to figure out things related to LaserDiscs still that confuse me!), but having worked on several home-made DVD's over the past year, this is what I can attest |
kleinhond 02.01.2005 15:32 |
Now I'm confused. I remember seeing Queen pick up an award on a UK Tv show around late 89 or early 90 and I always thought it was the Brits, but maybe it was this Cilla show then. Did Fred look terribly thin and wore a suit and let Brian do all the talking. That is kind of what I remember, unless I'm mixing up bits of both shows. Was it actually broadcast on New Years Eve, because I remember everyone at work the next morning all talking about Freddie's appearance but I don't think that would have been New Years Day. |

I remember watching a clip of that show, with Cilla Black. Freddie didn't speak, and after Brian had finished, Cilla said "Awww he's lovely" or something... |
deleted user 02.01.2005 17:19 |
I've seen the whole of Cillas Goodbye to the eighties. When i first saw it i remembered Freddie looked pretty bad but he dosn't look as bad as a clip i saw of the 1990 brit awards. He looks awful. I remember i the clip i saw all he said in that was thankyou, Good night as they were all walking off. |
Serry... 02.01.2005 17:26 |
If Freddie wears the light blue suit on video - it's Brits. If he wears the dark suit - it's Cilla's show. Cilla's show you can watch on 'Champions of the World' video. |
kleinhond 02.01.2005 19:19 |
Thanks. I'm amazed Freddie turned up for both of those shows. After what I now know is The Brits, everyone was gossiping at work the next day 'did you see Freddie Mercury? He must have AIDS' etc... |
bigc 02.01.2005 19:49 |
if he didnt turn up...theyd be gossiping "oh no Freddie Mercury..he must have AIDS" he was proud of their achievement and had every right to be, I admire the fact he went. and actually went to an aftershow party, although he left early which led to tabloids getting some pictures of him:( |

I do, however, have a fault on disc one. The 'I Want To Break Free' video is in a really bad state, with lines and grain on the screen, sound scratching and just general tape damage. This is not the case with the version on my S. American Flix II DVD, so I thought that it must be some kind of damage on my DVD. So, I went back to the store and returned my GVH II for a new one, but it had the same glitch. Yes I had the same problem ended taking them back twice and the third copy was fine |

mine only just let me watch staying power..after 4 attempts...then it was very glitchy also, with the first disk, if I turn the dvd player off, then on again, when it reads it, it crashes on the main menu on freddie's face.but then if I press eject, then put it back in again, its fine should I take it back? its a bit bizarre.. and annoying, to say the least |

my player is nearly brand new too(i got it xmas day!) |

Yes, My "Break Free" also played up too. I returned it, only to have the same problem - those horrid streaky lines at the start. But I found if I stopped it, and pressed play again, they disappeared and all was fine. I like the material on the GH2, but think the quality is poor compared to GH1 (which I love). |
Canadian May Fan 04.01.2005 08:34 |
Odd, mine turned out fine (including the 2.35:1 version of Hammer to Fall reading properly). But then again, the first pressing of GVH1 that hit my area was burned wrong or something, and at least one video was always unplayable on my machine with each of the three packages I tried on it. I eventually gave up and waited a few months before trying again and it worked out. |
