A question for bassists from a guy who never had a bass guitar in his hands. Is it possible to play the bass line of Invisible man live? This is doubled, right? |
Sebastian 31.12.2004 06:19 |
I'm not a bass player per se, but I can tell you that actually there are several (not many) bass tracks in the studio version, as you can check in the DTS mixes. But as in Breakthru, the tricky parts aren't done by machines, they're human |
Bizon 31.12.2004 06:24 |
staying power and hmm well.. cool cat... it's simple but i like the way it sounds at some moments... i love listening to bass guitar as i always wanted to play one and i sometimes pick note or two that.. just has this "something"... i cannot explain it neither in polish, nor in english ;) |

I used to think that had a good bass line, but in the video John plays a keyboard, and in A Night At The Opera it says John- electric keyboard. Isn't the instrument sounding like a bass the electric keyboard? |

I'm not sure if it's doubled or not but as a bassist myself I assure you...IT IS COMPLICATED!!! I've tried many many times to play it but i just can't keep up with John at all. And by the way let me add more that i've thought of. '39-Great Double Bass part. A Kind Of Magic Fat Bottomed Girls Bicycle Race-Another difficult one!! |

I think John is a good bassplayer with great basslines. But I think he's doing not much in some songs when I see a video of queen. Examples : Somebody to love , play the game, I'm in love with my car and friends will be friends. There are also awsome basslines. My favourite : - The Millionaire Waltz - Good old fashioned lover boy - Grazy little thing called love - Bicycle race - Don't try suicide - Dragon attack - Misfire - Bohemian Rhapsody (the heavy part of the song) - The march of the black queen - The Fairy Feller's Master-stroke - My fairy king - Liar - I'm going Slidly Mad |

Magic, Misfire and I just love that bit in Liar where he cracks in nice and hard. Just to be slightly controversial deliberately didn't go for AOBTD-due to an element of alleged plaguarism by some band called Chic...made me laugh coz they then went and topped the black charts in good ol' USA. |

Markaw, Queen did admit that AOBTD was a kind of tribute to Chic, who revolutionised funk and dance music in the late 70s/early 80s and were the hottest production team of the era. But IMO, the bassline is not the obvious Chic reference but the funky rhythm guitar that comes in just after 3 minutes, which is so Nile Rodgers sounding I can't believe it was played by Brian May. Maybe it wasn't! BTW, it's funny David Bowie was involved in two records that have have some of the most famous basslines ever: Under Pressure (which some people say he came up with and not John), and Lou Reed's Walk On The Wildside, which he produced. |

Hmm, - Crazy Little Thing is a nice one to play. Looks quite complicated at first but as soon as you get it down t'is cool. - Dragon Attack is a brilliant excersize for strengthening your left hand and increasing your right hand speed. Hurts like hell though ;) - Breakthrough is another good one for working on technique & there's a bass solo in it. - Another One Bites the Dust, dunno about other bassists - it looks quite easy but that 3-4-5-5-3 bit's kinda tricky to get right. - Bicycle Race. Great on to play but the timing does my head in. - Bohemian Rhapsody: headbanging at 20 paces :) Others include: These are the Days, Sleeping on the Sidewalk, '39, You're My Best Friend... Honestly, there aren't really any 'bad' basslines in Queen. The majority of them are pretty varied, they're fun to play & sound great. Deaky rules :) |
Gordie Howe 29.05.2005 10:36 |
