is it just me, or is it pretty shocking? I watched it recently and I thought...hmmm, this strikes me as EMI telling queen, look, we spent loads of money getting you a train(breakthru), making loads of brian may's appear(invisible man), and training up junior versions of you(miracle), so we havent got alot left. we'll make something that says scandal and put it behind you, but the rest is up to you. like when the couple come out those doors at the start, i assume its meant to be a hotel, its just some wooden doors on the same set!(you can see freddie and the boys in the background) the costume department also seems to have been a bit flat to be honest I dont know why im being so critical, its just normally queen were very inventive with videos, and it just seemed totally...uninventive |
iGSM 29.12.2004 08:34 |
heh, that's true. It's pretty bland but I guess that's what they were aiming for. |

I think it's a cool video. But rest of their videos from that period is quit useless.. |
bigc 29.12.2004 09:50 |
they could always improve the effects...lol and put out an enchanched miracle |
yellownymph 29.12.2004 09:51 |
I didn't notice the video was crap because I love Scandal so much. With a better video the song may have been a bigger hit though |
bigc 29.12.2004 09:59 |
thats my point exactly. I love the song. (the extended mix is better though), but with the poor video, is it any wonder it only got to no.25? which led to its omission from greatest hits 2. lol. there lies the true reason for my venom towards the video |
deleted user 29.12.2004 13:47 |
I don't mind the video - I think the song makes up for it. If the song was crap, yes I might have critised the video... |

If you watch 'It's a Hard Life' then 'Scandal', poverty makes up for excess. |

I thought it would have got higher than no.25. Even though the Scandal video isn't that amazing it's one of my favorite videos. |
Awesome-O _4000 29.12.2004 19:25 |
Roger said that he thought they should have gone bigger w/ it, so you guys have a good point. And about It's a Hard Life, I like that video. As Brian said, it shows the irony in Freddie's life. |

And about It's a Hard Life, I like that video. As Brian said, it shows the irony in Freddie's life. In the It's A Hard Life video when you see Roger and John standing on the stairs it looks kinda as if there sulking or they just generaly don't look happy. Is there any reason for that or not? I've always sort of wondered about that. |

Wow it must be late in the UK. I the US it's only 8:45 central time. |

It is 1:50 A.M. in the UK now so i'll be off to my bed in a minute when i've finished listening to Live at wembley. It's not as if i've got to get up too early tomorrow. |
Scirocco1977 30.12.2004 04:45 |
However, you are well advised to put in GVH II not I to listen to the comments on Hard Life. Was the first commentary I listened to because I knew they would be so obviously truthful with their real feelings... A shame though that Brian always tries to be diplomatic about everything. Good thing Roger tells us what has been shite. |

Fred wears the same jacket he wore in the Invisible Man vid :P :o i never noticed that!!! And shoes :-) I've noticed the jacket he wears in both videos and thought they were the same but i've never noticed the shoes. |

Most Queen singles follow the same pattern: the first single charts very high because the only way people could own the song was to buy the single because the single was released in advance of the album. Then the singles released after the album is available to buy do less and less well on the singles chart because more and more people have already bought the album and therefore own all the songs serviced to radio as singles. If "Scandal" had been released as the first single instead of "I Want It All", it would have almost certainly charted top 10 and maybe even top 5 - even with the same video. By comparison, "The Miracle" had a great and almost universally loved video and it didn't chart much higher than "Scandal". |

I just think its a shame, because I love Scandal. and because it never made it on GH2, or any of them, its got a massively reduced audience amongst newer fans |

like roger said in some dcumentary (and what the hell was its' title?), they did some coplicated videos, they became fashionable so the next one had to be simple.. simple clips are popular, so the next one's black and white.... it's maybe nat exactly what he said but he point is the same... i don't think it had anything to do with the company giving them less money to do it... it was their chioce in my opinion and i don't give a shit if fred was wearin' the same jacket as in the invisible man or not... the video is cool for me... |
bassist08 31.12.2004 13:51 |
Hmmm. I've never thought of it like that but I guess it is true. I love the song and the video is okay. But now that I'm thinking about it how much would that train for Breakthrough cost? Not cheap I'm guessing. |
deleted user 31.12.2004 14:23 |
And what about the cost of all the special bright lights in the I Want It All video. |
Ray D O'Gaga 31.12.2004 14:49 |
it was the 5th off the album. but still did a bit better. I just think its a shame, because I love Scandal. and because it never made it on GH2, or any of them, its got a massively reduced audience amongst newer fansYeah "The Miracle" was the 5th single and ended up peaking at, what? 22? and Scandal was 25? Not a lot of difference really. I think "The Miracle" single came out in November '89 didn't it? I suppose it could have benefited from some early holiday sales to give it a bit of a bump. Or the public may have just liked the song better. Another consideration might be the formats the individual singles were available in. The singles from "The Miracle" album were really the peak of Queen singles being released in different and collectible formats - 7 inch vinyl, 12 inch vinyl, cassette single, CD single, picture discs, etched with signatures, shaped picture discs, poster packs, and on and on. I think some singles from that era were released in as many as 5 different formats, and I assume that was done in an attempt to increase sales to a degree by making releases that were attractive to collectors. As I recall, "Scandal" was available in a poster pack as a 7 inch and with etched signatures on 12 inch, while "The Miracle" 12 inch came with a print of the album cover and with that (for the time) neat looking hologram sleeve for the 7 inch. So I guess the flashier packaging could have also helped "The Miracle" squeak past "Scandal", despite it being the 5th single. I know a lot of people felt like all those different formats were a cash grab, and they probably were, but I always thought they were cool. I love, especially, picture discs and colored vinyl and wish they had produced more of them instead of less. |

Well darlings, Scandal is the one i love the most. i think its a powerfull song-and about the video-it's a simple one but its the last video where freddie looks like freddie-the tricks with the mic. , the dancing etc.. after it all the videos were compilcated-to hide his illness (except "headlong"-which resembles the dieing freddie...). scandal video has some magic-the rest of the magic that was left from freddie at that point. |
teddybear 31.12.2004 22:15 |
I don't mind the video, it is better than the Back Chat one. LOL (and dare I mention the "Body Language" one? Urgh) |

Nothing to add. Sandal is one of my favourite songs too. Very underrated, I'm afraid. And I appreciate the apparent simplicity of the video. |

scandal works as an album track, but as a single its dull for me, & the video is dull too, the whole band look bored |
