In my opinion it is. I simply love this song. And am I the only one that loves the songs were Brian May and Roger Taylor shares the vocals? For example Let me live and NOBY. Great stuff. Request for Roger and Brian: Make an album together! |
Furia142 27.12.2004 17:41 |
No One But You is also one of my favourite songs, Let me live too. Mother Love is also a wonderful song. |
deleted user 27.12.2004 17:51 |
I love all of them too. But No One But You is one of my favorites. I heard it being played in a DVD shop a couple of weeks ago along with One Vision and Princes Of The Universe i think. |
The Fairy King 27.12.2004 19:00 |
NO! next question... |
Gunpowder Gelatine 27.12.2004 19:40 |
I love when Brian and Roger share the vocals, especially when Freddie's added in. I wish they'd done more songs like Let Me Live. I'm not sure if No One But You is one of the best, but it's definitely a great song and a fitting tribute to those who died before their time. |
GonnaUseMyPrisoners 28.12.2004 00:33 |
Nope. To me it's morbid, sappy, formulaic, and completely unnecessary, especially given the Made In Heaven album (which preceded it). Glad you like it, though... I've honestly felt rather guilty about my strong feelings of indifference to this track by my lifelong favorite band... |
deleted user 28.12.2004 00:36 |
Just curious, why did they include this in Queen Rocks? |
Melancholy Blues 28.12.2004 01:13 |
no-one but you is one of my favourite song of all time. i think it has excellent lyrics, vocals and music, which is very rare to find in a song. the thing that makes it so good to me is that the lyrics are so meaningful without being too obvious. i especially like the references to freddie like Forever paying every due and I guess we'll never understand The sense of your leaving Was in the way it was planned? |
Leech 28.12.2004 06:32 |
I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you. It's just my opinion, but I also feel indifferent to No-one, and I hate Let Me Live. These tracks are pompous and excessive, without the grace of their previous majestic songs. |
The Mir@cle 28.12.2004 07:01 |
For some personal reasons, No One But You is very special to me.. |
Another Roger (re) 28.12.2004 08:51 |
The piano is so beautiful. And the bittersweet bridges are great! |
Bohardy 28.12.2004 09:44 |
Fuck no, is it. I pretty much agree with everything GUMP said (except for the "glad you like it part" - I pity anyone that rates this song, for they lack taste and a decent pair of ears). Probably my least favourite "Queen" song ever. |
brENsKi 28.12.2004 10:18 |
it sounds too contrived like almost many Brian ballads - very rigid in formula, and gushing with overblown sentiment let's face it - if Brian had written it about anyone else then it probably wouldn't get so much respect |
slightly mad 22 28.12.2004 11:42 |
i love it too it made it on to my own Queen compilation |

<font color=whitesmoke>bambam wrote: Just curious, why did they include this in Queen Rocks?I think it was a timing thing - I'm assuming they reassembled post-MIH (1995-96) and recorded this one track (possibly scraps of more, who knows?). Looking for a way to market it, they seized on including in on "Rocks" (1997), very likely as a sure-fire way to get all us diehards to shell out the cash for ONE NEW SONG with 17 B-sides at full CD price! OK, I'm being slightly harsh, they're all bona-fide classics ('cept for Put Out The Fire), but they are recycled... I mean, most of us have had these tracks for eons. "Overblown with sentiment" is on the money, too. I was pretty wiped out by Freddie's death; I know the band was, as well. If it provided catharsis for the remaining three, or even just Brian, I say let them have it... but that doesn't change my opinion of the song. |

I also noticed that it wanted to express some emotion but it kinda backfired. Brian has that characteristic, just like Tear it Up. He obviously wanted it to be "hard-rocking and "balls-out" but it just did not click. |
Lord Blackadder 28.12.2004 14:56 |
It's in my top 5 Queen songs. It really is a great song. |
Serry... 28.12.2004 15:03 |
I like live version with Roger's vocal part - he sung at his own good way! |
Hildur Helga:) 28.12.2004 15:07 |
It's not the best *Queen* song..but i love it! |
deleted user 28.12.2004 15:19 |
I don't know if it can be the "best" Queen song, it is certainly one of the most emotional. Especially the "there's a face at the window, and i ain't never, never saying goodbye" bit. :( |
brENsKi 28.12.2004 16:02 |
nowhere near it....fairly average (for queen) ballad imho - i'd put at least 50 other queen songs well above it |
Rotwang 28.12.2004 16:46 |
It's a fitting song to end Queen. An emotional tribute for a friend by friends. I also like the sharing of lead vocals (one of my favorites being Fun It). Let Me Live was a perfect way for each singing member to have the spotlight. No One But You, however, is generally not a great song IMO. |
GiantSpider 28.12.2004 17:31 |
It is a amazing song. But I think most of their last songs were better than the rest. Maybe because of the extra meaning. NOBY is my number 1 Queen song. |
karen 28.12.2004 17:59 |
I love this song, and played it a lot when my cousin died. I want it played at my funeral one day. |

True - then I would have to go for "another one bites the Dust" HA Ha |
freddieismyqueen 28.12.2004 22:57 |
Kind of morbid, but this kid who's graduating with me this year has muscular dystrophy...he's actually supposed to be a sophomore, but they pushed him up to a senior because he's only expected to live until April or May...and that's being optimistic. If he passes away before graduation, this is the song the choir may perform. The teacher actually had the tact to ask if a student were to pass away before graduating, which song should the choir perform? And not single them out. But...it's not Queen's best. Or one of them. It's just one of those songs that are good but not GREAT. |

<marquee><font color = green>Brenski wrote: like almost many Brian ballads - very rigid in formula, and gushing with overblown sentimentExcuse me? I take major offense to that! Brian's ballads are some of my favorite Queen songs. All Dead, All Dead, White Queen, Teo Toriatte, and what about SAVE ME? |

FWIW, agree that like many of his ballads it makes a perfect soundtrack when one feels really low and desperately needs a good weep to get better ... Perhaps not their best song, but one of the most emoptional for sure, and I just love that dramatic contrast between Bri's and Rog's attitudes - though as a tribute to Freddie I generally prefer "Old Friends" BTW: ever heard "What Are We Made Of"...? Peace. -- Gnomo |

I think it's one of the most emotional and beautiful song ever. Try that link and you can read all about that song... about every line in the lyric!! link It's so fantastic |

brian_may_wannabe 30.12.2004 05:58 |
It's so emotional and a great tribute to Freddie. I hate to think that anyone would hate it. |

I've just listened to Queen rocks and heard No One But You at the end of it. I havn't heard it properly for weeks. It's one of my favorites at the moment but it wouldn't be in my top 10 list. |
brENsKi 30.12.2004 17:57 |
i'm sorry to disagree the sentiment is fine - and well-intended but it's a shallow-only-average ballad and very empty without the classic queen harmonies |
ryancoke 31.12.2004 00:21 |
I tend to agree. No-One But You is magnificent. Let Me Live is definitely one of my favorites, was since the first time I heard it. I agree with whoever said there should've been more songs with the trio all singing verses. |
The Real Wizard 31.12.2004 14:16 |
After checking out this topic, I decided to put No-One But You on. It's one of the few Queen songs that still puts chills up the spine. A very fitting tribute to Freddie... beautiful song. I've always loved Brian's voice, so this one is high up there in my books. In this song, John's bass playing really makes the chorus. That man has always been so under-rated, even by Queen fans. |
